  1. cute, interestinga bout the opaline to opaline. If I can find a male that I know is split for opaline I think I will go for him to match to Reep rather a full opaline male.
  2. yis it very hot in your area? it kinda sounds like he is holding his wings out to get cool.
  3. that is all i see too Daz, no brown markings for cinnamon
  4. I'm glad to hear it then, I wonder if the one the died didn't choke on food from over feeding.
  5. thank freeman, i love taking piccies of my little feathered friends. I love that too karen I waited two mintues to get that shot!
  6. if the vet wants to see them that's the best person to take them too. I would take mum and chicks possibly locking mum in the box with them not sure about that, or using a hotwater bottle wrapped in a towel to keep them warm (or even a samp towel heated up would work too wraped in another dry one) I'm looking in my book to see if there is some info to help. Big question was/is there any buising of the skin in the chicks? The bit aobut the abdomen triggered me to something I had read. Polymavirus, has enlarged abdomen and slowly emptying of crops and death. Plus the brusing I asked about.

It sounds like he is just cleaning in that area, if it's really messy give him a hand by cleaning with some water and cloth, if he will let you hold him. They can get stressed with the move and the dropping become runny which then yets caught around the vent area.
  8. The day is here at last I got to introduce Poka and Thistle to the rest and it went well, a small bit of 'keep away from my fave spot' but I think it went very smooth. what is it? is it real? how cute Hope no one saw that. I say welcome, let us be friends. Thistles first taste of greens I think it was a hit hanging out with the boys It was great to see them all together now. and I hope you enjoyed the updated pictures of the others, Reepicheep is going to be one stunning colour in the end.
  9. your very welcome kirby i in fact had to edit that one since I forgot about one whole bit (Laughing out loud). I would love a pied spangle yellowface
  10. I've heard it's good for baby budgie in a quick need of some food and as a treat, I keep meaning to try it but don't really think of 'baby' things, although Lily my niece will soon be getting into food like that
  11. nope, didn't even get Lily photos for Lin, thank god she forgave me.
  12. plus you have had time to find promblem area and fix them to suit the birs better ( that dark corner area) having seen it I love the plans you have, I think the spaces you had laided out would work giving enough room to them all
  13. I think the 'bump' she was talking about was just what the start of the tail looks like at this angle, not that a lump is growing there. Riebie has enough budgie knowledge from here to take her sunny to a vet at any sign of a lump. as always if it's truly worring you and the answers here arn't lessening it a check up to the vet is always worth peace of mind

I would see the beak tapping as checking each other out and trying to work out which is top dog ( or bird in this case) Sitting in teh corner of the cage is normal for a new bird in a new area, they feel safe in a corner. this is normally a sign of illness, even more so if they are sitting or sleeping all fluffed up. Do you have an avain vet? or one you trust with birds?
  18. Naughty Amara, Find her quick. She is a stunning one Zeus ( or Zeuss) which spelling is it?? is regal, he thought my hand was his throne and he had every right to sleep there. Not that I was going to chase him off in a hurry :(Laughing out loud):

I agree with you Lovely Budgie can mourn/miss a partner or play friend but for them a week is a very long time, and would start to hunt out another mate. I was told by my birdsitter that one of my birds looked to jump on her shoulder but changed her mind, i got back from my holiday (a week) and went in to say Hi and had all of them climbing over me, so they do know how to tell one human from another, just like they can tell other bird apart. But 5 years is a long gp almost half a budgies life span.

Hi Karen and Ebony, it sounds like you are doing a great job, getting the information first and such. What number are you planing to start with? sounds like more than one Also I see you asked about breeding, there are two ways of doing so avaiy breeding, which is adding boxes in the cage and letting them pick partners and boxes. This does work when watched closly as Bubbles does. OR there is select breeding where you take a pair of budgies and put them alone in a cage with a box. No other hens to break eggs or kill chick becuase she wants that box, and you know who the farther is of each chick which means following family lines is easier. any question feel free to ask, and welcome again oh about your nesting material question : wood shavings is great, you can get bags of it at petshops, some hens don't like anything in the box and will spend hours removed it all untill bare again, others will welcome it.

thank you for the added pictures Willis does look recessive from the back, I just thought it odd with that straight like on his belly. Not to say it can't happen. They all look wonderful, please keep a very close eye on them since joey wasn't kept sperate for 30 days. I believe he is an olive.
  22. I think Kirby might be right, it looks like there is a small line of colour around his neck and the patches of black on his wings are in clumps rather tha a random dot here or there, which are both signs of a Double Factor dominant Pied ( also called Australian pied or banded pied) They are hard to tell from Recessive pieds (also called Harlequin) The best way to tell is when they are older and the eyes get an iris ring, recessive pied do not get this white ring. Also in male if he is a dominant pied it should change from pink to bright blue. Hope this helps, if you give us some more pictures, of his front and back we might be able to pick up other clues.
