Pity bout not getting a spangle the first time around But two stunning opaline there. Shawna and Cheeta are right. In the second lot one of the pieds is either grey or mauve. But Grey would be the best answer since that is what mum is.

I havn't had an issue like this, but I would make sure she has a cuttle fish so she can re-stock calcium if need be. If they eat fresh fruit and vegges cut down her size becuase a lot of green leafy vegges can cuase poops to be runny sometimes. What is her cere like? still crusty brown or is a pale blue colour? Giving her more night time hours could help calm her breeding mood down a bit, by covering her earlier at night and uncovering later. Let us know what the vet things. also Welcome to the place.
  3. :glare: I have my fingers crossed for number three to hatch out tonight/tommorrow morning. Then Thrusday will be number 4 and Daz's
  4. there is still a small chance of a baby from two spangles getting both the normal genes from the parents. Karen can you remind me of Kaya's partner and if she has ever had blue babies before? The bub look like a blue opaline and could be cinnamon.
  5. :bluebudgie: sorry to hear that Daz. Tootie is takeing great care of them, got to watch her feed yesterday, tryed to take a short film of that but it's too dark in the box to see anything but her back. :ausb:
  6. :bluebudgie: Flash is so cute in that piccie. Poor little Criket Glad you have a handle on the problem now. Boy Crystal has grown into a stunning little Miss.

sounds a bit like mating, but no need to panic yet. Budgies can form a strong bond and even mate but not go hunting for a nest site. It can happen Phoebe, a member here, can tell you a pair of hers raised chicks with out a box. It would be a good idea to rearange the cage so it's all new, add some different toys for them to interest them and start to cover the over earlier, for the length of daylight can set them off with the want to breed.
  8. what cuties
  9. aww he is a cutie-pie He looks like a dilute, he is a green bird but because of his mutation it has lightened the colour.
  10. okay I looked up PBFD disease and the first feathers that show affected are the down feathers ( the fluffy ones) they appear as 'stick's' since this little one has a nice covering of down feathers, also this is seen in older bird rather than nestlings. A avain vet is the best to check for this still, but the signs on this little one doesn't seem to match what I am reading. I hope this calms you a bit.
  11. I have a simple genetics page on my website if you click the link in my sig. A mauve would have normal blue cheek patches if Milos are more grayish then he is a grey. For a quick statment of the ones you listed: Opaline have the same colour on their wings as on their bodies. Spangles have thin black lines on the wings rather than a lot of black in the middle, almost as if they are reverse to normal (Milo has normal wing patterns) Yellowfaces are blue birds with a yellow face instead of white faces. The type ones only have yellow on their heads the type two's continue to get more yellow into their body with each molt slowly turning them green. Keep asking questions we (well maybe just me ) love to get another hooked on budgie genetics.

once looking just like both mum and dad. normal blues and yellowface blues. A surpise could crop up with split genes that can't be planed for.
  13. *Nerwen* replied to a post in a topic in Breeders Discussion
well with that colour I would have said yes but his wings are white which is a sign of a type 1 yellowface.
  14. :(Laughing out loud): Thank guys I have my fingers crossed Cosmo, then we will all be even. Tingle is one of Marine and Tooties. I'll be sure to let you know when Daz's eggs hatch.
  15. any chance of closer pictures?? It's very hard to see the birds in the last one. I think Milo may be a yellowface type 2 grey, if his cheek patchs are greyish-blue and not the normal blue.
  16. Well I for one didn't feel the need to point out that since you had already found that out. Yes breeding budgies can be stressful when things go wrong. I'm sorry that this problem has cropped up with your first chance at this hobby, most times it can be enjoyable and rewarding watching these little pink blobs turning into beautiful and cheeky birds. With this it's a bit of wait and see if other chicks that are growing or about to hatch will so the same problem. Are you breeding in cabinets (single pairs in each cage) or colony breeding (out in the aviary) We are not vets only people with some hands on knowledge on the care of these animals, we will always state that a bird should be seen by an avian vet. I will return after finding my health book for info on this problem.

I'm not sure sorry, I've never tryed any nuts with my birds.

karen answered after mating for a experanced hen it take around 10 days for the frist egg, or a first time mum it can take around two weeks-two and half.
  19. Ahh :(Laughing out loud): I wondered that after i posted, thank for the info. I think num 3 will have very very cute babies.
  20. very cool What I meant was you are very observant and I believe you that their are/were marks on her wing.
  21. That's it in one For those a bit lost Fruit Tingles are a lolly (candy) over here. Picture time, Cupid and Tingle:
  22. *Nerwen* replied to a post in a topic in Breeders Discussion
The cope very well, she will normally state to give up on the nest after a period of time when no babies hatch and if left together will start all over again straight away. They don't attach feeling to the eggs as we do and so do not Grieve of the 'possibility'
  23. *Nerwen* replied to a post in a topic in Breeders Discussion
Alora can you tell me of Aries look blue in real life like the pied in the other picture, a really light blue, or that greeny-blue as in the picture??
  24. very cute, I can't really see anything about the wings on Skye, but i know you see the smallest of things so I believe you. If it scabed over I would leave it since she is so small anything you do to look or fix it could harm her more. Both look great
  25. You used the same male in couple 5 and 3. Aww spangle babies are so ver cute Do you know if your green birds are split to blue?
