  1. The bleach is to stop any bacteria that may form on the seed during the soaking period. Very inportant
  2. Splat. i just read what you went through. It must have been frustrating for you. I usually have blood warm milk in a 10ml syringe to give to the newly hatched chicks. this gives them fluid and sugars and gets them going. Also check you humidity in the nest. You may need a quick spray of water (mist) when the chicks are due to hatch. I love the outcome anyway the chicks that have survived look great. What was you thought of pairing Clear body to Clearbody? Numbers?

Thanks Splat I have usually breed 120 to 140 per year but last year i only bred 30. I have just gone through all my birds and found i'm down 20 due to bad book keeping. I now have 7 pairs down 6 of which are for DECs. 4 are Rec Pieds to DEC and the other 2 are DEC to split recs. The DEC to Split get better quality DEC but the DEC to RECs give higher numbers. I want to get the Domies and Spangle down soon but the it's up to the birds not me. For those that want to breed good quality birds, let the hen tell you when they are ready. You will do better to pair hens that are ready to go with cocks that are the same rather than pairing the birds when you want them to be paired.
  4. a Male DEC has a pink cere and a male DF Spangle will have a blue cere. Also a DEC has no iris ring and has pink feet. but DF Spangle and even normals now can have pink feet, so don't let that confuse you. lol
  5. You can't get a DF Dominant from this pairing. Also the Cobalt would have to be a Violet Skyblue to give any violetfactors to the chicks. If he was a violet Sky you can't get a violet (Violet Cobalt) chick as there is not a dark factor in this pairing. I did a post on the Violet factor My link I can't see cinamon in the chicks but that could be my eyes.
  6. The bluish grey is probibly a mauve.
  7. Thanks We love the house. It has 7 bedrooms and three sitting rooms or living rooms, so we can afford to sacrifice a room for the breeding room for a little while. After all there's only two of us plus 5 cats 3 dogs 230 budgies 35 parrots various canaries and finches PS here is the whole house Nice Breeding rooms Kaz

You can get colourful rings from store but not the ANBC rings. These are given (sold) to club members.

Thanks Splat. I had some trouble with a couple of breeders. Seems the Cattle Property was more inportant. I basically took a year off. But now i'm back
  10. Twisted there was a guy in Gatten that made them and sends them around Australia. I don't know if he is still doing it but will find out for you. he is the only one that does them for me to my designes. Daz
  11. By White i believe you mean Albino. An Albino is a combination bird. It is a Blue Lutino. There is no such thing as a green budgerigar. What we see as Green is a Blue and Yellow pigmented bird. If the Male is a Lutino, the Ino gene will remove the blue pigment turning the bird pure yellow. the blue gene does not make the bird blue it removed the yellow pigment and so what we see as a green bird turns blue. If the bird is an ino (no blue) and is also effected by the Blue gene (no yellow) it is a white bird or Albino. If you case it will be a hen.
  12. For anyone looking for plans.

Have you tried building them yourself? I had trouble finding some so learnt to build them myself. There should still be information and photos on the site for you.

Lozza the breeding cabinets are Melamine so are not painted. The walls are white plastic coated masonite. So there are no painting in the shed.
  17. If he doesn't make it, give me a call and i'll try to help you out with a nice bird. I hate to see someone start out with trouble.
  18. A Dominant Pied Spangle would be judged in the Dominant pied class.. Page 24 of the Standard. I would have entered that bird in the Rescessive Pied Class as I am looking to do with my Recessive Pied Spangle... Kaz is that a Red Ringer? The first thing thst draws your attention is the bird's head qualities and then the variety. From the photos I can only comment on the head qualities, Very nice directional feathering and top end. The back line seems to be sweeping and not a straight form but this could be the angle of the shot.
  19. There are 3 main Auctions in S Qld. Thew Wynnum Action just held BRASEA in June/July and the Pine Rivers Auction in August/Sept. We are working on an Auction just before Christmas for the SQBBA. I have mixed feelings about the auctions. They are a good place to go to see a broad collection of birds. ie from $50 to $4500 but I believe the best buys are directly from the breeders. You get a good bird at a good price and time to talk and see the related stock from the bird you want to buy.
  20. Yes he is a very nice Bird... Glad they got to you okay Kaz... Did you get photos of the others?
  21. Kaz can you do a pictorial of your aviary? I'd love to see it in it's completness
