Thanks Flip-trainer. I know a bloke who makes them to my design. There's nothing new dillster.
  3. I'd say that Kaz is on the right track. Reading your story makes me think they were still too young. As you said they were still had barring.

I recieved that in the mail from a vet back when i first started in budgerigars. 2005. I have a golden face Spangle hen that prolapsed. I took her quickly to an Avairian vet but she died that afternoon. The vet sent me the note and signed it by the bird,..

WHEN TOMORROW STARTS WITHOUT ME, AND I'M NOT THERE TO SEE, THE SUN WILL RISE AND FIND YOUR EYES, ALL FILLED WITH TEARS FOR ME I KNOW HOW MUCH YOU LOVED ME, AS MUCH AS I LOVED YOU. AND EACH TIME YOU THINK OF ME I KNOW YOU'LL MISS ME TOO. BUT WHEN TOMORROW STARTS WITHOUT ME, PLEASE TRY TO UNDERSTAND, AN ANGLE CAME AND CALLED MY NAME AND I STEPPED UP ON HER HAND. SHE SAID MY PLACE WAS READY IN BIRD HEAVEN FAR ABOVE BUT THAT I'D HAVE TO LEAVE BEHIND ALL THOSE I DEARLY LOVE IF I COULD RELIVE YESTERDAY EVEN FOR A LITTLE WHILE I'D FLY OVER AND KISS YOU JUST TO SEE YOU SMILE SO WHEN TOMORROW STARTS WITHOUT ME DON'T THINK WE'RE FAR APART FOR EVERY TIME YOU THINK OF ME I'M RIGHT THERE IN YOUR HEART.

The yellowface Blue is a very young hen. She is less than 12 weeks old The other is a Recessive Pied. Can you put up other photos of them?
  13. Daz replied to BudgieOwner's post in a topic in Budgie Pictures
Sounds like he is a normal 12 week old who will continue this for the next few months. You need to train him. It will be hard because you have to have patience.

Too right Splat. Here is the 50% rule. Remembering that Dominants will breed 50% of their own. Eg Spangle to normal will give 50% spangle. Spangle to spangle will give 50% spangle. Sex Variety is also 50% Sex variety split cocks to visual hens will give 50% visual Cocks and 50% normal hens. Recessives are the same.. Split to Split will give 50% split. Normals are the same. Normal to Dominant will give 50% normals.

When buying a new bird, do you always look at the whole bird to see if is exactly what you want. Buy that i mean, do you pass up an top quality Opaline hen for a poorer quality normal because you want the normal. If so, you are like most people. The attitude is to get want you want at all cost quickly. Remember, if you take that good quality Opaline hen and pair her to almost any normal cock (most cocks are split opaline .. or something) You will get a number of Normal Hens. split opaline Cock x Opaline Hen = Opline Cocks, Split Opaline Cocks, Opaline Hens and Normal Hens So %50 hens will normal. I always look at the birds first. Then work out how to split the genes. (what the outcome will be) Do this also for features. If you want a Normal Hen with good mask and spots. A dirty Opaline (Spots everywhere) to a good cock might get you want you want. If though you have $4000 to $6000 to spend on the bird.. why not buy the bird with everything you want? There is an old saying.. it's easier (cheaper) to breed your own hens than to buy them.
  17. Charly, not all pet shop birds come from poorly educated back yard breeders. Some come from top breeders. The ability of a bird to produce another bird lesser, equial or better than it's self is in the genes. I started out with pet shop birds and learnt my craft on them (yep still learning...) Some of my birds are sold through weekend markets. To answer one of your questions... you can breed bad stuff from a $6000 bird as much as a $20 bird. It's just that the $6000 bird will more often breed good birds rather than bad.

Vrey Nice Chicks Splat.. i would be very please at this stage. Remember, you only need one good bird to win the nationals.
  22. It is possible to have this as a job but you would have to have a very large set up or extremely good breeding stock worth a lot of money (Like Mark Chidel's) I'd have to aggree with Dave and say no to it as a practical job. I did have some birds for sale but have sold them. Sorry.

  24. Yep thats right. Now days we call it AGY (Avian Gastric Yeast Desease) In the old days we used to give oranges to the birds. The citus acid did the same thing. Apple Cider vinegar also has a probotic quality as well.
  25. Blocks _ I would go for Iodine and Calcium. Question: why the Apple Cider Vinegar in the water. (I know the answer but curious why you use it)
