Well I have accidentally left the flight door open. Came in to find them flying in the breeding room. No Problem just got them back in their flights.
  3. Hows the construction going, any progress?

Yes being a sparky the cable ties came in handy. The birds don't seem to chew on them, well not much anyway.

Derek I have some good second hand cages... Cheap. Might be a good way to come over for a cuppa.

Derek, Bunnings have the joiners and the aluminum extrusion. The joiners come in two way, three way, four way all the way to a six way. I also used them as supports for the Breeding cages and front door. Very versatile. I have a friend designing breeding cage banks out of them. I am looking forward to seeing that. The mesh is attached by self drilling button head screws.
  7. Those are readily used here. The fronts are removed and a breeders front added. I hear they work out good. You just need to put in shelves to support them. Well a cold beer on a Sunday night has halted work. All that is needed is 4 round perches, dividers and the trays and this one is done. I tried hard Throwback but the ones I want kept getting out of my reach. With a budget of $600 a pair I thought i'd have a change. Oh well. Lot 25 was the Opaline Cinnamon Grey Green. Hannington bred and put up for sale by Troy Holmes. Fetched $70. Which is about right for the bird.

Arron I would read this topic. >Link< it is what I am going through and have learnt so far. It will give some ideas for the next 5 years.
  9. Up date.. Being a Sunday and spending more than half of it at an Auction, it didn't give me much time for the cabinets.. But I got started puting in the fronts. Just one to go. Now the perches. I still have to cut the 16mm round to go with the square.
  10. yes raw corn on the cob. I get three large ones for just under $2au still with the husks on. Those where put in on Saturday and I'll change them on Wednesday.

I think you are right but I also can't remember it's name.
  12. I will be sealing the edges today with white "No More Gaps" to stop any bugs getting in to crevices. But that will be much latter. I have the Auction to go to this morning. I found that hardest thing in building Breeding Cabinets was finding the Cage Fronts and Trays. I am luck as I now know people that can make them to my design. Pet City at Mt Gravatt and Brendale Produce at Brendale have breeding cage fronts in different sizes. They are good too. I buy my fronts for around $15au.
  13. Yes the stand for the water keep it off the ground. Keeps a lot of seed and rubbish out.

Derek when I started I had the Breeding cabinets under the pergola away from the flight. Just an Idea. My first flight. http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a26/darrylw/Budgie007.jpg My first Nursery My first Breeding cabinets. These sat on a table under the pergola.
  16. Corn of the stick. Got this Idea from a member in the club. Timber base with a three inch nail for the corn to sit on. Birds love them. I replace the cob twice a week. Look at the flights. The dish contains fresh vegetables - Carrot, Celery, Mung beans and snow pea sprouts. nursery get it too
  17. Gluing time is slow. Waiting for the glue to dry before going to the next stage. Backs on and the dividers are glued into position Trim the excess from the back panel using a router I am now cutting the aluminum front rail that will hold the cage fronts. Timber is driven into the ends after the rail is cut to length. Timber trimed flush. Positioned into the divider. That is what the cut out is for. Dry fit. Liquid nails heavy duty used in the dividers and the ends. The ends are also screwed.

Show birds, as a rule, are tamer because we handle them more.
  21. Same a grit.. I find that when I bring the birds back from a show they attack the mineralised grit. They take what they need when they want it.

Feathers, I was placed on it by Dave Ganzer who was the president of the ANBC back in 2005/2006. Dave has won three nationals. Last year came 1st and 3rd in the Dominant Pied section. He uses it every day as well. I have been using it for two years now and won't be changing unless some thing better appears.
  23. You welcome.. I don't think much has changed in my method but the aviary certainly has.
  24. Memories.... Got to make up some more nest boxes. Expanding from 14 to 20 cages this time. Well I started this afternoon. I picked up some 19mm x 110mm hardwood amd milled it to 19mm x 19mm lengths. Cut them to suit the cabinets and then using a 1/4 inch round over bit smoothed them. I also cut a slut to go into the cage wire. Cut to length Round over the edges and cut the slot. Now do it 20 times. Tomorrow I'll start on the first bank. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> I also got a round to doing 6 nest boxes for a produce store. The perches will go in tomorrow. Karen, that is your training cages under neather. Just waiting for the trays.
