Can You Get A Dominant From A Recessive.
okay let me clarify. If I paired a recessive variety to a Normal Variety I can get a Dominant variety... Sorry Derek you can't answer this one ... well not yet. Let call the normal Variety a normal Blue. Can I do it??? I am saying I can. In quizes we've had we understand that you can get a recessive from two dominant so long as both are split recessive. We said you can't get a dominant from two recessives. Now that could be wrong. This goes against a lot of genetics we have discussed here but like genetics it doesn't stick to the rules.

Can You Get A Dominant From A Recessive.
The answer is yes. I can cross a Recessive to a normal and get dominants...... how... why..... Am I right, wrong or mad...
-
Breeding ....is This Going To Be Ok?
All cocks breed from a cinnamon hen and a "normal" cock will be split cinnamon. normal being any variety not cinnamon.

Breeding ....is This Going To Be Ok?
Sounds like a good idea to me....... Let me explain. The cocks will be split cinnamon. The hens will be normals unless the cocks are split to a sex gene. The cinnamon gene adds a soft quality to the feather which is what you want in a show bird. The hen will carry the softness but not the cinnamon. If the hen if a well marked bird (even though she is a cinnamon) she will add to the spangle markings. Her daughters could be a better bird than she is. If the spange cock has a sister or brother that has sons you can pair the new daughters back to those sons to improve the line. Half Brother to Half Sister This is called line breading and using a cinnamon out cross to improve a feature. In this case the feathering.

What Suppliments Do You Use To Promote Good Health
Good health is essential to breeding and showing good birds. It has become common place in many bird rooms to rely on supplements to health keep our birds health, and in good form. But what do you use? Here is what you will find in my aviary...... AVIAN INSECT LIQUIDATOR (A.I.L) The keep pets at bay. AVICLENS To keep the water clean from bacteria BREEDING AID To help the pairs and the chicks. CALCIVET To help egg production and good bones, beak and claws. COCCIVET For the treatment and prevention of Coccidiosis FINCH CRUMBLES For protien MOULTING AID For good Feather growth. PROBOTIC for over all good health. SOLUVET Vitamins SPARK ELECTROVET For the birds going into and coming from the shows. WORMOUT GEL For worming of the birds. These are the basic supplements I use. But there are others in the way of Mineralized grit, Charcoal, Apple cider vinegar, Pentivite, Aloe Vera.

The problem with talking birds is that hours go by very quickly. I always love talking birds. :hap:

Weighing Budgies
I agree with Kaz. The term useless can mean many things. A bird useless in the breeding cage or show can be an excellent pet bird for some one. But not a show breeder. Please remember that a broken clock is correct twice a day.

Breeding Issues
Some birds that have been in flights and then put in breeding cages have fits. (Stress) I do know of a bird that goes the other way. He has fits in the Flight and not in the breeding cage. :hap: This could have happened. it is always best to pair up in the morning so the birds have all day to get used to the new surroundings before it gets dark.

Sky And Sublime - Genetics Help?
DrNat, Have you had much experience with the dark eyed clears? I have just pbtained a DEC white Cock from Mort Faddy and trying to start that variety off. I have paired to a Grey split recessive hen and had 7 chicks. 1 grey, 2 skyblue, 1 opaline grey, 1 dark eyed clear white, 2 recessive skyblues. I believe all the normals and opaline should be split recessive. Reading what I can get a hold on is good. Dave Cook's been great helping with the pairing side. But the genetics are not straight forward. I know you like the clearwings but i'm interested if you have had success with the DECs?

Budgies Need A Good Diet All The Time.
I'm not sure how to keep the corn fresh it will go "hard" but the birds should eat most of it by then. If it dries out and not spoils the birds will eat on the hard cob. Mine do.
