If the flight feathers are cut or missing it's a fault and the bird can lose. Only the mask can be altered by the removal of excessive spotting.
  2. hope all goes well neat. I will look forward to seeing some good chicks
  3. Very good suggestions. I have a good friend that put 5 garden sheds together to make a large breeding room and then four separate flights for the birds.
  4. Daz replied to Derek's topic in Breeders Discussion
The show birds are different to the wild birds as they have more maturing to go through. They are larger and need more protein for the feather development. Derek like many animals, it depends on the animal. If the animal if fit for breeding and I mean by that that the hen is mature physically, then she is bred at a younger age. Many breeders that will pair and breed a hen at 6 months will not breed a cock until 12 months.
  5. A bird room is usually for the Breeding Cabinets and equipment needed to Breed the birds. My Bird Room Banks or Breeding Cabinets Stock or holding Cage. Size depends on how many birds you want to put in. nursery Cages. Size Depends on how many birds you will put in. one of my Flights My Aviary
  6. well the Koala only eats one or two types.
  7. I have both Stainless steel and Plastic. The Stainless Steel ones last longer, but I do through them out at the first sign of rust.
  8. Thanks all. A very good idea I was told was to have an Aviary Diary. You just note what you have done each day. eg Monday - Fed Seed coated with CLO to flight. Fed Seed with Breeding aide to Breeders. Water - Clean with avicleans and iodine. Tuesday ..... Wednesday ..... If then the birds are sick you can take this diary with you to the vet and they can see what has been going on. You don't need to write essays, just notes.
  9. Add them to a soft food mix to add calcium to their diet.
  10. Budgerigars will lay untill they have a clutch. If the first few eggs are infertile and you take them away, she will lay more.
  11. Wire Dividers in.
  12. Yes tree branches are better. But I use two different perches in the breeding cages. one round 16mm and other 19 mm square with rounded edges.
  13. I thought the question was is he split to blue and albino??? where's my beer.....
  14. She is pretty. Don't know about opaline. Opaline would show blue in the wings not the yellow suffusion.
  15. He is a badly marked spangle as show circles goes. It just means that the markings are not as crisp as they should be.
  16. .... um a cobalt cock can not be split blue... he is already showing blue. He will be split ino. If paired to a green hen you can get lutinos and albinos and greens split blue.
  17. Pair her to a good Opaline. This will give Opaline Hens and split cocks. Keep the cocks and pair back to the normals. if the opaline cock bird is a large bird this will help increase the birds. If the chicks are Dominant pied split Oplaine and you air back to an opaline hen you will get Dominant pieds in Hens and Cocks. These are what you want. Breeding can be like playing pool or billiards. It might take a few shots to get what you want.
  18. up date Top section sold. Back to this again...

  20. That's where a confusion lies. There are show birds and there are Stock birds. Stock birds may not win on the Show bench but they can breed you the winners. Also those that win on the show bench may not always breed well for you. I have paired up a hen that by all facts was not very good and have breed chicks that have gone on to win. I have also had a hen in the culling (sale) cage to get rid of and for some strange reason I kept her. She has gone on to breed some very good chicks. I always try to keep some good brothers and sisters from the winning birds. These are the ones that might breed the best in show.
  21. Well the cages have grown some what.
  22. AIL should be good for 6 months. I spray it after cleaning and get in all the cracks and hiding holes. It's also good for red mite.
  23. Thanks All. I want to change the wooden dividers to wire. I have some brought in at my work for a job so I might just snip a piece off
