Welcome
Hi all. The main reason for this section is to discuss how and why to pair up show Budgies for the purpose of improving the birds for the Show Bench. The board Admin and Moderators acknowledge that some members are not interested in breeding their birds or wanting to breed for show. But there are members that are currently involved in showing their birds and other that are interested in geting into Showing Budgerigars. As we have tried to cater for all tastes in the hobbie of Budgerigars, it is only fair to look at the Show Side. Some points that we will look at will include the Pairing up of size, shape and markings. Disussion on the frontal, blow and masks. I hope that you find this interesting and informative.

Late Hatching
I don't know if there is a record but I wouldn't give up on it untill it reaches around 30days. I'd let the hen decide. She should through it out if it goes on too long.

What Have I Just Bought?
The ceres are crusty, I would say they are coming into condition. If you look closer both appear to have irus rings but have recessive pied head markings with the banding behind the eyes. Can we have more photos please

What Have I Just Bought?
I would stay with the recessives. :ausb:

Help! My Budgie Keeps Laying Eggs!
The Cock could have fertilised the Hen before he got out. You will need to candle the eggs after days to see if they are fertile. Then decide if you want to let the hen hatch them and care for them alone. What is the age of the youngest chick. If it is past 6 weeks he should be able to look after him/her self.

Breeding Time
Oh you mean the spots. Yes Spangles should show the spots. But like the marking in some they are hard to bring back.

Fluffys Health And Genetics
Hi Boomberry he has no problem with eating, The problem is with the others trying to eat. He is a bit aggressive towards them. Yes it is confermed. He is a feather duster. I am just waiting on the results of the dna test for other problems if any. The Avairian Vet says she doesn't think there is any other problems but for the flock sake I still had the tests done. He currently is 47 days old.

Breeding Time
Hi Dingo, I'm not sure what you mean about mask bars? All spangles even Spangle opalines and Spangle Cinnamons should have Head bars as a nest feather. If you have poorly marked spangles try mating Spangle to Spangle or DF Spangle to Spangle. To really get the markings back mate Spangle to Malenistic Spangle. The Spangle Grey and Spangle Light Green were the out come of Spangle grey green to Spangle grey green. The out come could have been Spangles in Light green, Grey, Greygreen or Double Factor in White or Yellow. This was their first clutch so I am give them another round.

I can't see the first one's cere but Bea is right. The last two are cocks. nyos In a way they can be both. The dilute series contains greywings, dilutes and clearwings.

He Didn't Make It
I really don't want to worry you, but did you have this bird in quarrentine or for the last two weeks was it with your other bird? Your new bird may have infected Petey Bird. Some deseases take up to 30 or 40 days to show. Yhat is why we surgest that the new bird is quarentined in a different room for at least 35 days. I would have the dead bird examined to find out why it died and als get Petey bird checked or you could lose him as well. You can read up why by clicking the links in my signature. Sorry.

New Avairy
Hi Phoebe, The temperature here is around 29 30 deg C. In the aviary thats about 37 to 42 deg C. Hopefully the new aviary will be a lot less. ............................................................................... Current Progress. Concretor arrived this morning and started to prepare for the extension of the slab. I paid my deposit on the new shed and now wait 3 to 4 weeks for the delivery. That will give me time to start building the new temporary acomidation.

New Avairy
The birds are currently in the aviary. The concretor has prepared the site for tomorrows pour. I have put a deposit on the new shed. It should be here in 3 to 4 weeks. That gives me time to prepare the new homes in the garage and to get the shed on Ebay. If anyone is interested in buying the shed. PM me, all offers considered. I am only selling the aviary it self not the breeding cages or nest boxes or cupboards sorry.

Hi! New Member's
I usually call it around 21 days old but some of my chicks are difficult and my take up to 35 days before I can make a positive call. As some know, I have had a couple of b irds even at 12 months old that are difficult. Some out of condition hens look the same as the cocks in Recessive pieds and Inos. At around 3 weeks old the hens will start to develop a nassel ring. A white ring around both nostrals. The cocks will keep to the pink side. Some chicks will get a black beak that blends into the cere. They take a bit longer to call.
