  1. BUDGERIGAR COLOUR GUIDE A field study was carried out in seven member countries (Australia, Belgium, Germany, South Africa, Switzerland, United Kingdom and the U.S.A.) involving many fanciers, to establish a WBO Budgerigar Colour Guide for the basic budgerigar primary colours using the Pantone Colour Chart. Many budgerigar samples were used in those countries and it was eventually agreed that the WBO Budgerigar Colour Guide (using Pantone charts) should be :
  2. The two shown in these pictures look like green to me not greygreen. :ausb: Yes the front one is Spangle Light greens and the back left and right is the Spangle Grey green The Dam was a Spangle Greygreen and the Sire was an Opaline Lt Green

If you go to my web site by clicking on my signature and go to aviary. You can see the suppliers that helped me build the aviary.
  4. What to call you bird besides befer? In the show world the Mutation or variety is called from the dominant to the colour. Cinnamon Skyblue Opaline Greygreen Spangle Greygreen But what about mixtures. Well we call them from the dominant, sex linked, recessive then colour. Spangle Opaline Greygreen Now if they are split we put that on the end. eg. Yellowface Cobalt split to cinnamon. Some mutations have shortened names. A Lutino blue is called an Albino. A Lutino Cinnamon or Albino Cinnamon is called a Lacewing A Dominant Pied Spangle Opaline Yellowface type II Violet Cobalt is called a head ache to show. (little show joke ) and a White face Dark green is call a Lotto winnings. There isn't one.
  5. Hi Kaz. I still am envious See if you can get a few "Normals" in the same quality. You won't be sorry.
  6. Greywing Skyblue - Whitewing Skyblue - White Skyblue Note that the Grey Wings has only 50% of normal body colour depth. You can have a Grey wing with full bodycolour, but the tail is still greyish (the Clear Wings has blue tailfeathers). You can also have a Cinnamon Grey Wing, and as you normally don't see any cinnamon markings, but a Grey Wing with even more diluted wingmarking, it is very easy to take it for a Yellow or a White. Note that the Clear Wings has violet cheek patches, dark blue tail feathers and full body colour. A Spangle with no markings on the wings can be mistaken with a Clear Wing, but the latter differ in cheek patches and tail feathers. As the non Australian Clear Wings has markings on the wings to some extent, they can be mistaken with Grey Wings, but still - note the cheek patches, tail feathers and the body colour. The so called suffused (White or Yellow) should have a pastel colour all over except for the mask. When you have it with the Opaline, the wing markings are more visible. Information from PHT Budgerigars
  7. Albino - DF Spangle - White with Black Eyes The best (and only) way to distinguish between these 3 varieties is to look at the eyes, the leg colour and the cere at cocks. The name "White" for the suffused blue and grey makes it difficulty for newcomers to the hobby - these "Whites" are not white! Information from PHT Budgerigars
  8. The Budgerigar Program has now been updated. Hath did you see it at the Dorrington Show?
  9. Please note - This bird is not a dominant pied Here is a melinistic spangle cinnamon. The markings are darker than normal and in this case giving it the cinnamonwing. (Colour doesn't show up well in this photo) In LusoPeriquito there is the scolloping in the wing markings of a spangle also no body banding of either the Dutch or Australian dominant pied. 10. There are three types of dilutes in that family. Greywing, Clearwing and the dilute. You won't hear much about dilutes on the show bench as it is a defect in the gene as far as the Show world is conserned. Greywings have a there Melanin diluted from black to grey the body colour is also wash to 50% it's normal intensity. The spots are grey, Cheek Patches are violet, tail quill is grey with a violet blue Tail feather. Clearwings have very little if any Melinan so the wings, head and neck are with out markings or as close to the ground colour as possible. The spots are clear, Cheek patches are violet the tail Quil is neutral and the tail is neutral with ground or body colour suffusion. Dilutes have a high percentage of the melinan and body colour effected. the wings are washed out as is the body colour. I must note that the check patches of Grey green and grey Greywings and Clearwings are grey not violet.

It sounds like your cock lucked out. I would take him out and let him live. Try again in a week or two.

Hi Dingo, Rainbow is correct that isn't a opaline. Here is a very good spot for information on standards PHT's Budgerigar World. It discribes the differences in a good bird and a poor bird. As I put and rainbow discussed there are no birds that have reached "The Standard". When they do, the powers to be change the standard to make it harder to reach. The other thing to remember is this. Do Beauty Queens use make up. Dam right they do. So do show budgies. Before you show a bird you must dress them. The photo of the cock you put up has been dressed to look his best. http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a26/darrylw/CBS-4357.jpg These are three of my birds that have been dressed.
  14. Daz replied to Dingo's topic in Win That First Prize!
Dingo it is a funny thing. When breeders get close to the standard they change the standard. We are using a 2003 standard in Australia. I don't know what the Standard is in yours or other countries?

So the best would be a pairing to a strong Dark Green or Olive bird?
  16. Daz replied to Riebie's topic in Food And Nutrition
I use Soluvet from Vetafarm. Eterri is correct in that it can cause a build up of bacteria. That is why I use Avicleans to stop the build up. I have a water management plan that all my birds are on, even George, Angle and Chirpy. Suppliment are a required part of breeding in addition to a health eating plan. Vetafarm has a MSDS on their products. MSDS on Soluvet

What Hath means, I think, by an out cross is interpeted two ways. One is to bring in new blood from outside to enhance only the line. The second is to buy in a bird to breed from. The violet factor will enhance the lutino but if you breed it too much into the line it will reduce the size of the birds in the line. Is this right Hath?

But when you see the birds in show they are so cute
  20. Daz replied to Daz's topic in Aviaries
RThanks Hath, Well the aviary is sold. A neighbour saw it on ebay recognised it as mine and knocked on the door. We agreed on a price and since I had no biddders I removed it from sale. I have also been busy on the Stock Cages. Except for the two top ones, they are now finished. Things are starting to look good. I'll have to wait til tomorrow to find out when the new shed should be arriving. Possibly three weeks time.
  21. Daz replied to Daz's topic in Aviaries
Well bea I'd like to sell it for as much as I can but if I can get up to $500.00au I would be pleased. I all ready have 3 watchers looking at it but no bids yet.
  22. Daz replied to Daz's topic in Aviaries

It would apprear that I have an egg eater. I this case a hen that after she lays an egg eats it. There are a few ways to stop this. Place a fake egg made of a hard material and let her wear her self out. Put in a toilet. Number 2 is what I did. I made this to replace the pine concave. I removed the pine concave. Put in the new toilet in place. and put the nest box back togeather. The idea is that the hen lays the egg in the new concave. when she turns around to eat the egg it is gone. Fallen through the hole on to the sawdust below. She can't get at it. All I do is to foster it to another hen. I'll let you know how it goes.
  24. As this post is nw two days old, how is the chick today. As the chick matures the hen will start to change the feed she is givinng it. At first she will be feeding it crop milk and day by day she will start to alter the mix to give it a thicker mix. More seed. The feeding will be larger and the time will grow between the feed. If you have a digital scale you can weigh the chick. It should be around 22 grams by now. If it is a live, I would certainly give up an idea of feeding it yourself. If you want to tame it, wait until it is 21 days old. Then start to take it out of the nest for five minutes in the morning and at night. When it gets to 28 days remove it from the nest for 15 moinutes in the morning, noon and night. When it is 42 days old. Take it away from the parent for an hour at a time. This will tame your chick. All the best.
  25. Hi not commenting on the number of budgies but the cage really isn't the best for Budgies. It is a square silo. 2 foot x 2 foot x 31/2 foot. It is always best to get a long cage than a high cage.
