  1. This is my TCB....he has beautiflu colours on his wings. I will be breeding him with my Albino as then they will have all TCB babies I have been told!
  2. I LOVE BUMBLE she is such a cutey pie!
  3. Trish replied to Trish's topic in New to BBC
GOOD NEWS! Benny boy's feathers are growing back! 2 tailfeathers have come back and possibly two flight feathers on each side!
  4. Sorry Kaz, hubby was talking about the dowel hole instead of the other one which was made with a 50mm speed bit. The boxes are very heavy and will have to have extra supports attached to the cabinet that Dave doesn't know that he is making next week!
  5. Top view, sliding lid to peep inside at little chickies and eggs! Measurements of boxes are same as Daz (250mm high, 215mm deep, 210mm wide) but these are inside measurements. These cost nothing to make except for time as we just used up materials that we already had! Good because it is 45 mins to the nearest hardware store! I wanted to make 5 but only had material for 4 but I don't want the first time breeding to be too overwhelming so thats o.k. I priced much smaller ready made boxes at the local pet shop for $10.90 each. 50MM speed bit for hole. Perches in place with P.V.A. and wedges in place temporarily till P.V.A. sets. Perches were just some from the pet shop cut up and extend inside as much as you can see outside. I will attach them to the front of the cages I bought on ebay Ebay cages... using cuphooks. Cages are due to arrive on Tuesday hopefully.
  6. Great thanks...Dave is a cabinet maker and I thought he had lots of ply but its all craftwood, damn! Getting started now thanks for your quick reply!
  7. The ispection area for checking the chicks is it a sliding lid or sliding back or a door? Do you have a picture of this area. I am building one with Dave (my husband) later just want to give him a good desigh. I will post pics when I am done. Thanks Kaz for your help.
  8. I was just wondering as the hole in the nesting box is so high does the perch extend inside also? Do the birds land on the eggs and break them? I have noticed that traditional boxes the hole is much lower but I do see the logic about the chicks leaving early if it is too low. Is there a hollow inside for eggs to be laid in?
  9. The green hen made it through the night but is still puffed up and panting, I half expected this morning for her to be at the bottom of the cage
  10. This bird is absolutely beautiful! Without seeing the eyes properly it is hard to tell if it is Albino? Are the eyes red or is there a little white ring around the eye. If it is red Albino and if there is a ring then not. Great photos, Trish
  11. I think thats why mine is smaller because his parents were both lutino. I wonder if I can hit the breeder up for another green? Hmm :hap: I ordered 6 cages from eBay and am waiting for them to arrive and this weekend will be learning how to make breeding boxes to hang from front of cages. Thanks Elly great advice is always appreciated! I am just happy to spoil them for a while and it will take me a bit to get a good set up for them. Lots fresh veggies etc and I bought wormer today and multivitamin so that is another job for my list! Might also plant some silverbeet as the breeder said it was their favorite, it is easy to grow I have heard.
  12. Unfortunately am still searching for a mate for my Lutino Cock. All the breeders lutinos were too young and he was not wanting to part with them ntil they are older and he sees what condition they are. Still plenty of time he isonly 8 weeks, kind of like arranging a marriage!
  13. O.K. Photo's as promised, I only had a filling at the dentist today, I told them I wasn't feeling very brave and they went easy on me! There are 5 cocks and 5 hens ready to mate after they have gotten back into condition, as at the moment they are molting heavily as the weather here has been hot one day and cold the next! There are two green boys that are brothers but no chance of them breeding! Almost all of them have pin feathers coming through and I also had my first blood feather today. The breeder apologized for them looking so scrappy at the moment but I am just appreciative to have been given such a great start in my breeding! All up I got all 10 for the grand old price of $100 I am a very lucky girl. Most have purple rings on I have been so busy with the kids and Halloween I am not sure what year that is? The birds aren't perfect but I have to start somewhere and the breeder will help me pair them up to accentuate better features and improve the chicks. I got to see the chicks getting the rings on their feet and learnt so many new things! The Albino hen is absolutely amazing in strong sunlight her feathers are luminous and the cheek spots that are usually bright blue, glow a lovely colour! The green hen in the last photo has been fretting, she is puffed up and breathing heavy they have come from a large aviary to cages so I have covered them up to settle them down. Next I will be joining a club, most likely Mt Gambier as it is nearest and all this weekend I will be building an outdoor aviary and breeding room after some very serious sucking up to hubby! TCB cock front and back
  14. Well I went to get two Budgies and came home with 10!Photo's to come tonight or tomorrow depending on if I have a filling or and extraction at the dentists at 2;15 P.M. Not looking forward to that one!
  15. I finally found a breeder near me, I visited him today, he is a member at the Mt Gambier Club. Soon I will be getting a Texas Clearbody and a suitable mate that the kind person is selling me to start me off and I will be getting a mate for my Lutino (as soon as we figure out if it is a she or he) to start off my breeding. I was very impressed with his set up and really enjoyed my visit and got to see lots of beautiful babies and boof headed parents. I am so used to seeing little pet shop types, except for here on the forum, they look so much bigger but are even more amazing up close!
  16. This one is sooooo beautiful!
  17. I love her name like and angel it really suits her, she is sweet!
  18. Thats excellent, I can imagine how daunting it must have been at first! Well done :party0011:
  19. I am originally from Mornington. Great Siggy by the way! What program did you use?
  20. I just found out that Bluey was bred by Ken Farren in Rosebud. His id ring is KF2 049 BCV. Could anyone please tell me what type he is (I'll get it eventually!).
  21. Ha ha ha......thats a funny question I could take the wrong way! It is blue! I found the breeder of my Lutino, it is Alan Howes from Ballarat! We are still trying to work out if it is a he or a she! The parents were identical to it. Little thing is about 8 weeks of age.
  22. Thanks Jimmy you're the best! I just went around to mum's and my little brothers budgie Bluey is KF2 049 BCV he is pictured below:
  23. BCV = Budgerigar Council of Victoria AHZ = Breeders Code x8 = year (just in case you can't tell the difference between an 08 and an 02 bird.) 059 = Could bird 059 please stand up. Thats so cool, thanks! I am a registered Labrador breeder and we can only breed registered dogs, are there similar rules for breeding budgies?
  24. I am not sure what the rings mean at all...as I said I have A LOT to learn, but with the wonderful help I get here I am so lucky! BCV AHZ x8 059 is what the ring says.Little bugger wouldnt keep still, I hope I have them in the right order? Thanks again Jimmy!
  25. Ha ha ha ha ha they came from the same place as yesterday! Relatives with the same gorgeous colourings! I bought them all from a pet shop but the owner there is absolutely wonderful and buys straight from good breeders. I was confident in buying from him. Is it o.k. to post the ring number here or shall I p.m. it? I am in no hurry to start breeding I have A LOT to learn first. They can be spoilt and fussed over and mature and be admired by my family in the meantime!
