thanks nubbly 5 but i dont think this was the best way to express my dis like for alans home testing for his research on this product you may as well doused your bird in mentholated spirit it would have also killed the mite but like you im not sure on the fertility or longevity hurryup.gif wacko.gif blink.gif -------------------- im sure i could of thought about it first guess my blunt sarcasm isnt always best oh well its nice to know some love me thanks as for the birds well i just feel we should treat them with the utmost respect, and never risk them with anything untill fully proven , after all they do for us the one thing no one person can do in my eyes they are already slaves to our want and desire if you think about it so the least we can do is treat them best we can as a gratitude to their services to us and the joy some of them lose their lifes to give us

Buying New Birds, Help Needed
i myself dont like to milk hens for their eggs but i just wanted one chick she would have sat and raised this one but i felt raising one chick after rearing a round of fosters was mabybe waste her time so i rested her then i moved to on to someone whom does know how and is happy to take her eggs she is a brilliant hen iam glad for him if he gets anything as shes a nice big henish looking bird not cock headed well im glad they were a breeder and glad they knew their birds history sounds like you will be fine not many breeders will rip you off if they know its your first pair some will but most the bigger breeders have more brains and a rep to keep ( most )

dean patience and persistence two key words dean im sure your birds will breed for you properly i think maybe a fly and accustom them to your feeding regime and presto i had a hen this was my 4th go she ended up laying three double yoke eggs this last try this year so i tossed them and fostered last egg out and i finally got one baby and well worth the time and effort for my two years worth of wishing as its a albino hen you will find your footing again and when you do look out nz :yuck:

sure i can not spell but nor do you know my level of intelligence able to spell or not i dont find you expressing your research as a good thing on this forum im sorry but their are to many people on here that would just look and say oh well alan is a researcher and he used frountline so it will be fine, then all their birds die and .... im not trying to insult you im simply saying it is not a thing i would freely express to other until the whole research has been done and proven seems to me your the one trying to big note your self not me i am simply stating that i believe it is cruel to experiment on animals ful;l stop with out proven evidance their would be no after efects which you have stated their may be so mate dont try make me look stupid sure im not the sharpest tool but im not as dim as i sim either

Buying New Birds, Help Needed
well congratulations id like to say you spent way to much lol you could have got fantastic violets in any mutation for half that cost but if it was what you wanted then good for you ps i really hope you were not duped and that you brought from a breeder who actually has trophy resently sounds like just a backyarder if violets is all he breeds surley he had other birds apart from them 100.00 is so steep

Scaley Face Treatment
i dont care what level researcher you are what right do you have to take any animal into your own hands and test your theory on it :yuck: i think that weather the bird lives or not their are enough products out their that work just fine with out you doing your own experimental work looked into or not i find it rather cruel you may as well doused your bird in mentholated spirit it would have also killed the mite but like you im not sure on the fertility or longevity

Buying New Birds, Help Needed
it really depends on the birds you buying but also on what you know if you beginning id say buy nothing over 50.00 thats what i do most i buy are 20 thirty and 10.00 and from good foundered studs so that i guess is what i would suggest find a stud you like the look of the birds then find another stud with birds you also like making sure the birds dont have to many faults yet not expecting perfict stock then pair the birds from your first stud to birds from the other birds you brought best if both studs use simular or stock from certain breeders them self as birds will maybe click better id start with maybe 4 pair 6 at most and see how you go learn with these birds when you can see that you know how to manage the management of nests and care of young extra then get bigger better birds if you feel need but you may be surprised what you breed if you choose a stud that clicks with another good luck may i ask where your from what area maybe some one could help you find what your after for reasonable price from her you should ask in wanted thread

Which Cock Should I Use With An Albino Hen?
seeing birds i would do as nubbly suggested green to albino as the grey and the grey are very lacking in head if your trying to breed toward show birds and the green as a better feather also his top end is better than the grey dom you will enjoy your out come either way regardless of what the birds come out like but id do green to bino if colours no issue

Wow, what beautiful birds!!!! But this one is my definate favourite, it's exactly what I hope to breed! Am I right in thinking most of the other budgies have violet factor? I am going to a breeders house today to look at a pair for sale, the cock is a single factor cobalt violet, and the hen is a cobalt dominant pied. He is asking $200 for the pair, little expensive I thought, but I suppose you you get what you pay for. make sure you see mum dad and babys they may of had and unkles and if any are not so nice looking know its in their genetics and look else where sounds like they making you pay for the colour but i could be wrong coluld have great blood lines just be careful your not buying a colour look at the whole bird pretend its green if you still love then go for it is pricey depending whos stud of course want to be from a champion breeder

My First Absolute Disaster Breeding Season
so nubbly could you find out for me if the 007 brand of horse lick is dangours as i havnt used one as yet but i finally got told their safe by a breeder who uses them but your the expert in that feild would you please find out if theirs a brand i could use or if not what salt can i use apart from i think rock salt which i think is safe Formula 007 mineral bricks are designed to provide the essential mineral and trace element in supplementary form, giving horses extra vigor, stamina and muscle and bone strength. Field tests have shown that Formula 007 helps brood mares produce sound foals and helps keep stallions in top condition without piling on fat. The balanced levels of calcium and phosphorus in the brick build stronger bones in growing foals, and replenishes these minerals drawn from the mare's reserves during pregnancy and lactation. Formula 007 blocks contain: Salt, molasses, phosphrous, calcium, cobalt, zinc, iodine, manganese, potassium, magnesium, iron, fluorine and sulphur. Directions for Use: One 2kg brick should last a single horse about three weeks. If consumption rate is higher than this at first, it merely indicates a mineral/trace element deficiency in the animal which is greater than normal. The horse will lick for what it needs, then, with its hidden hunger satisfied, daily consumption will settle down. Olssens Formula 007 mineral blocks are available in 2kg and 20kg. Is this the one GB? yes my friend is one i was speaking of (off toppic helllo ) OLSSENS 007 MINERAL BLOCK 2KG and dean my start to show birds has not been grand cheak out my web page thats on my sig you will see the blog freak storm

Breeding Voilet Dom Pieds
Thanks heaps for all the info..... brain starting to understand the complex violet LOL. So does that mean the intensity of the colour violet or the percentage of violet young produced? ( with the DF violet) im to belive that a df violet produces all visual violets no matter what its paired too as in sky blue, cobalt or violet but i really dont know as have not breed with one as i guess i never breed one

Or you can buy Invomec online http://cgi.ebay.com.au/IVOMEC-Pour-On-Catt...=item41527563c5 That bottle is miles too big, it has a life span you would never use by the time the use by date is up. If you decided to get such a big bottle you could go to your local grain stockist and it may be cheaper or at least you won't have to pay for postage. Better still do you know a farmer. Why don't you go to your vet any vet or a vet and just ask for it, say you want to use it for preventive for your birds for mites ect. That's what I did and do. I get about a 50 ml bottle for $15. and no some other people get it cheaper anyway that bottle last me for ages because you only put one drop on to the back of the head.. My vet told me it needs to be kept in a dark place as light makes it go off. vet also supplys mine for bit less but it is really easiest best way one drop every three months and keep in fridge i was told

Scaley Face Treatment
or you can use your oil but i would suggest parifen oil and put on once a day for three weeks, then after three weeks again for a week then after three more weeks again for a week once every day each period this will suffocate any new hatched mites the hatch cycle is 6 weeks but repeate in three to make sure you got all new hatched from last cycle then tree to get any other eggs from the ones just before you suffercated them with first three week treatment ivomectom is very quick n easy but parifin works

Which Cock Should I Use With An Albino Hen?
Thanks splat. I'm breeding in cabinets - one question - is it okay to leave the cabinet inside the aviary or is this a bad idea? The dominant pied is grey, so would it be better to put him over the ablino hen? The dark green opaline cock is the better bird though - I just don't want to end up with a heap of green birds. I guess I'd then have to buy another albino hen to mate with her offspring cocks if I wanted to produce an albino, or buy a male albino or normal/albino to breed with my existing albino hen? I want to have a good flock of dominant pieds, so would it be better to put the grey dominant pied cock over the grey hen? (she is the best bird out of the four) Any idea of the colours I could expect from these pairings? I might take some photos of the birds and post them. Thanks again for your help. well i read this from your welcome post so to start with welcome ps i love the name im going to say that if your worryed about colour and your breeding for show standards then dont as as you get more birds if you think about the chicks you produce this time with your two pairings and then buy in a bird to introduce the colour it will be okay just for show birds its best to pair the birds that dont have same fults rather than best to best (untill you have only good ) unless i saw the birds i could not comment on my pairing opinion as idealistically anything you pair with the albino will give you split albino cocks but if you dont know what your albino hen is masking eg opaline spangle skyblue cobalt or grey possibly even violet or sky violet then id be inclinded to pair her to the opaline boy this way you will find out if shes Opaline or not and spangle at same time and as for colour well you may get a prize and he may be split blue so you will find out alot from this pairring however if shes masking grey you will find this out also as you will get grey greens maybe to see if hes split cinnamon thats just me though when i have no back ground i tend to breed things that can bring out the most of whats hidden well good luck oh and its better not to breed in aviary as toes can be bitten off but if you cover cabinets or put shade cloth on tightly so bids cant get caught and can all still see eachother what not its okay its just the protective nest thing that makes probblems in my eyes

My First Absolute Disaster Breeding Season
im with you splat on the nest destroying thing and in leaving nests letting eggs addle yet sitting next morning so birds out condition do this also with you on breeding latter rather than earlier dean good luck with it all and maybe add some salt in nest box cages in with their grit which i have been told that they do need regardless of all the negative talk and things people say about grit so grit in breeding cabinets and in aviary along with salt block the horse type lick is okay the one i was told is safe is a brand called 007 took my one year to find this out now i know for sure its safe its a definitely must in my aviary and cabinets now on

ive always said grey will give blue if grey to grey breeding has birds from blue to grey breeding so its not completely true grey does not give blue grey to grey can give blue ive always stood by this but i think grey green may be diffrent not sure as most grey greeens from grey to green or greey green to grey breed birds

Breeding Voilet Dom Pieds
dean is the violet man i must admit i tend to breed sf violet cobalt's to sky-blue or sky-blue sf violet to cobalt blue and mainly results in two visual sf cobalt violets or one at least in most nest its rare not to get one visual in this pairing and most of the chicks become very useful to future violet breeding i still believe the quickest way to breeding a visual violet bird is sf skyviolet to a cobalt blue cock bird
