Some Of Our Flock
If this is so, Squeak you need to get some coccivet into their water or your bird will get sick real fast. i agree cocci is not something you want in your flock birds go down fast They aren't fluffed up or sick or anything. I have been giving sunflowers and honey in water for some extra energy, it seemed to have helped. When I mean they aren't as active and chirpy like when it is sunny and nice. The aviary is quite enclosed so it is reasonbly warm and draft free. They were only treated for coccidiosis (sp?) about a month ago, is it safe to do it again? If water gets in the aviary always dose them with coccivet as a matter of course. Sorry for the hijack of the thread, but thanks kaz, I have drained the water out but I will coccivet them. also if i was you i wouldn't be putting sunflowers in honey water for energy as this can lead to any fungal infections rappedly expressing themselves as the sugar feeds the fungus not saying your birds have fungus just saying if they did get a slight fungal infection which would normally act as a tummy ache then the honey could rappedly increase chances of losing bird as fungal grows double with the sugar if you want extra energy give birds minerals of any kind or probotics for few days again sorry about the threat hijack

I Need Help With Clearbody Breeding
im not a clear body breeder although i am playing with some i have a friend that breeds them and his are beautiful he just got a clutch of cobalt clear bodys they are amaizing so i would say that the dark factor is no problem most his are grey and grey is what i am to breed also grey and blue so im thinking that from seeing his birds that the dark factor does actually help with the breeding of them as you ca see how well your progressing with the actual variety needs as your breeding splits to enhance features anyway i dont believe that it was a wrong pairing so long as you believe she will fix his faults just if i was you i think the idea is to pair to a dark-marked (wings ) hen never use cinnamon and try breed your own grey based albinos as i have done to breed with the splits make sure the bird is good then interlock the more finer points of the variety then like the fading colour extra thats what the albino breeding is to help with im to belive but as i said this is just what ive watched from others and their breeding of them oviously if you can get a clearbody with perfict varierty look then doesnt matter how big or small grab it a its the way to better clearbodys only breed best variety to best variety when breeding visual to visual so im told good luck and mate breed you bino to a large grey if you can and get some split cocks bigger then her then breed them to the best hen for their features your bound to pop out one good albino hen then go from their thats if you cant find a nice albino hen for your split clearbodys try this by jim Hutton Clearbodies Developed from his talk to the 1997 Judges meeting in Bristol Sex-Linked The variety is sex-linked, which means its breeding habits are similar to any other sex-linked variety such as Cinnamon or Opaline. Hens are visual Clearbodies only and cannot be split for Clearbody. Cocks can, however, be either visual Clearbodies or carrying the Clearbody factor in a hidden form. The strange phenomenon with the Clearbody is the fact that they are dominant over Inos. When a Clearbody is paired to a Lutino or Albino you will get Clearbodies from the mating. Any Normal cocks produced will either be split Ino or split Clearbody but cannot be split for both. Only test mating will determine which factor is carried in the split form. Sex-linked Expectations Cocks Hens Expectations Clearbody Clearbody 100% Clearbodies Clearbody Normal 50% Normal/Clearbody) cocks 50% Clearbody hens Normal/Clearbody Clearbody 25% Clearbody cocks 25% Normal/Clearbody cocks 25% Clearbody Hens 25% Normal Hens Normal Clearbody 50% Normal/Clearbody cocks 50% Normal Hens Normal/Clearbody Normal 50% Normal/Clearbody cocks 50% Normal hens Judging Faults Not many judges will have yet had the experience of judging many, if any, Clearbodies. You will find time spent studying the provisional standard worthwhile. When judging Clearbodies here are some faults to look out for. Firstly, the colour which starts from the mask to the underside of the body and the rump should, in the Green series, be a bright yellow fading to a light suffusion and deepening in colour at the legs and rump. If the colour does not fade and/or deepen in the right places this is a fault. The wings should be a deep black colour on a yellow ground. The flight feathers, on the wing, should be light grey. It is a fault if the flights are too dark. It is also a fault if the wing markings fade where the wing meets the rump. This spoils the look of the contrast between the flights and the wing markings. It is essential that the tail should be dark. A light coloured tail is a major fault. Clearbody spots should be large and evenly spaced and as dark as possible. Small spots should be penalized as normal. However light coloured spots are also a fault and should also be penalized. Like all varieties capping should be free from flecking. Where this exists it should be penalized. For Blue series Budgerigars, the above all equally apply but White should be substituted for Yellow. Now, there is an interesting breeding behaviour with Clearbodies. Not only are they sex-linked but they are also dominant to Inos. To complicate matters further, a Budgerigar cannot be split for both Ino and Clearbody. It can be either split Ino or split Clearbody. It is usually split for Clearbody, that being the dominant variety. I believe that the reason the cocks cannot be split for both the Ino and Clearbody factors is that they are both located on the same pair of genes on the sex-linked pair of chromosomes. Must Not Fall Into The Spangle Trap You can see that it is relatively easy to breed Clearbodies. However if we are not to fall into the same trap as we did with Spangles, we must be very selective in our future pairings. Clearbodies come in all the full spectrum of colours and varieties. There is no doubt, in my mind, that the dark factor Normals are the most striking. I have seen the Violet and it is beautiful. The White body shading down to the Violet rump is a beauty to behold. Opalines can be equally good, the body colour blending into the wings certainly looks very good. Whatever Clearbodies you choose try where possible to keep them pure. One or two little tips for anyone thinking of breeding them. If the colour on the wings starts to fade it is time to introduce a Normal back into the stud. This should bring the pigment back into the wing colouring. Alternatively, if you notice that the wing markings are getting dark it is possible to lighten them by pairing the Clearbodies to Red-eyes for a couple of years. This has the effect of lightening the flight feathers more effectively than either Clearbody to Clearbody, or Clearbody to Normal. Similarly, if the breast of the birds is getting progressively darker it can be beneficial to introduce the Ino. This has the effect of improving the nice yellow or white breast, shading down to the rump. Now the Budgerigar Society has produced a provisional standard it may not be long before we see classes on the show schedules and possibly, who knows, maybe a certificate one day. Clearbody/Ino Expectations Cocks Hens Expectations Ino Clearbody 50% Clearbody/Ino cocks 50% Clearbody hens Clearbody Ino 50% Clearbody/ino cocks 50% Clearbody hens Normal/Ino Clearbody 50% Normal/ cocks (most /Clearbody, some /Ino) 50% Normal hens (including some Clearbodies)

My First Pair...... Are Here!
well hes a nice deep violet hes got nice body, tight in the wing area which is good (i think ) looks like some one tryed to spot him so cant really comment on his spots but mask is nice and deep he has nothing spectacular over the head but hes got the direction needed and over the eyes feathering just not long but that does not mean he does not hold this characteristic in his genetics i would not pair him with her as she has a very short mask small spots and not much head feather i personally dont like her for him but if colour and variety is really all your after then id say she will give you what your wanting with out a doubt i think she looks sky blue but then did you used a flash ??? they are both nice birds but i would not of payed 200.00 for them myself but then i do not know their blood lines or the breeder whom you revived them from so .. and sometimes birds look just average yet produce fantastic im hoping for you shes one of them birds if not u will get pieds that you can add to later so either way you will win and sky or sky violet you will get violets regardless cause of him so im glad you got what your after as we all look for different quality's in a bird so no one can really judge them for you but you but i think you got what you wanted so congrats mate and happy breeding

Frontline Is An Alternative
well as im intellectually stupid according to you al@n i believe i carry myself with way more intelligence than you have regarding your disgruntlement toward me may i just add that i actually am far more knowledgeable than anyone will ever know or see my actual intelligence falls in another area more so than birds and in fact im quiet respected for my intelligence and creative expression in this field so you can toss insults at me all you like but im not inclined to be a fended as honestly its you who obviously needs to big note their referencing toward me to try and look /sound like your brain functions and the arrogance that surrounds every word spoken to all members of this form the wording used to refer to us as all her as beneath your existence personally im with splat find your self a forum on diplomatic discussion, as were her to discuss birds to better our knowledge of care toward them not how to experiment on them by way if you really had any interest on this forum bar trying to a fend us for your own personal amusement then i suggest you maybe choose to insult someone whom actually gives two hoots as im not it i actually find it quiet funny to tell the truth your truly beneath my time management and with that said im just going to boycott anything you may even post wright or try to discuss besides your so intelligent according to yourself you don't need our input to anything you may want or need to know as you don't do opinions the fact is al@n and i speak for myself here i don't care for your unkindly comments and im not referring to your effort to try and decrease my level of intelligence to other im referring to your rude implementation that the people on here need to get with the times so to speak i think your the only one whom needs to get with it i think

Frontline Is An Alternative
i would suggest as a breeder of birds for many years that this suggestion of method was not used we here on this forum have people in all fields of work with many partaking in jobs that have many different products that im sure if looked into may be able to be used for birds however this information comes with no back up or guarantee i would suggest if you lacked money for a vet to ask here for a safe alternative two of our members expert in these feilds are nubbly 5 and rip budgies dont go using this above method suggested by member al@n as it is not proven or fool proof it has no wright up to stand it up with proven history of use and full report of its effect in long term this is not an opinion by the way this is a safety warning so to speak my opinion would not be received well if spoken im certain of that  ,yours gb

G & G 2010/2011 Breeding Season
Sorry to all the birdie lovers out there but several hundred dollars for a vet bill and at least a 400km round trip to get there means that this little guy will have to take his chances with my ministrations. If it is what you suspect then surgery on what amounts to a $100 or so budgie is out of the question. As it is he seems pretty happy so maybe he'll cope just fine with his crop sagging between his knees (god knows mine is just about there too!). well i have a 06 cock in my flight that i was lent to try breed with and i decided not to as i realized he had extra skin like i couldn't explain or understand but this is exactly what he looks like so im going to assume its same thing and why he has never breed for them apparently he has as always looked same  i just thought he had saggy skin

Murphy's Law Of Budgie Breeding
confession time hey lol well i have opened uncountable eggs and killed many babys due to eggs not arriving on time and turning black i have learn t to pretend to trick myself buy recording lay late about 4 days after real date in-till i actually put into records of course this has saved many chicks i have fallen and grabbed breeding cage while looking at eggs and broken half clutch of eggs twice now as my leg has given way i have sold my best cock thinking he was **** due to seeing what he breed with a really good bird then put him to a not so good bird but from a great stud with good foundation line but sold him before chicks hatched expecting **** and breed my two best hens this year i left door of my holding cage open and let out my first show quality cock i ever brought (the grey violet from you splat ) i didnt get to breed him  my dog ate my only goldenface sf borg n skivington cock also before i got anything i forgot to give my first breeding birds seed in one of the cages and almost killed him due to i had to greys next to each other and children distracting me to ask questions 2 days almost with no food i never put two same colour cocks next to each other now sent somebirds to people with mild scaly face (not my birds ) but failed to recognize they had it after looking over them fully brought 7 sick birds of breeder all of which died with in the month lucky for quarantine (and no i didnt say anything ) left a cup of water in my room and dround a baby i was tamming as it went to drink from it whilst i was out of room for one minit then i came in looking for it didnt see it till i wanted a drink also almost killed my daughters pet bird by leaving it out and it flew into a vase couldnt get out i thought of looking in it very last and just in time im so not perfect
