well i may be dimer than i sim some times but im not as dim as i sim :rofl: and i only did as asked this forum is good in aspects and at times bad but all up its great yes somethings on here are iffy but you take aboard what you want its the same anywhere people gosip or slander for their own need to achive a static which be it a good one or a bad one gives them their 3 seconds of fame when i joined my club i was slandered and i was labled before i even breed a bird i almost left my club due to it i was acussed of saying my club is **** and does not help i apparently were saying this to other club members personally i dont even understand club polissy and i didnt even relize we showed birds as a team untill i went to a show all because i made contacts with other breeders from other clubs and got support from and advise from anywhere i could i belive my club to have some great breeders of birds and some really helpful people istill get **** said about me but i decided i dont care as the ones who know me truley would no im not that kind of person i say wghat i have to say up frount but to be honest i breed birds now so i decided to reprozent gippsland with my birds in our team and if that person or persons does not like it is as they are worryed my birds are for a beginner quiet resonable and mabe i feel they dont want the competishion to improve their own birds due to new comer who knows but i do know that i have been snubbed by a few due to slandder it does take a unwanted place in most club inviroments and its not easy to just be when no one knows you so takes the words of long time breeders whom are plainly just unhappy with their own achivements to make it anywhere you must strive yourself and birds dont just come to u u need to find the birds right for you this is where the problems start as we all want diffrent i went beond the club and state to aquire birds and it has put me in a ugly spot with others through untrue words spoken by others who can not do as i have done their for slandered me to try and make me look dishonest and a gosip i just smile and achive quietly kaz you will get the last lagugh you know the true values of bird keeping people will belive and listen to what they want if they havent got it in them to ask your side of something then their not worth explaining yourself to them and better just left to be narrow minded and let them gosip as its all going to wash out one day all lies surfuss sooner or later

So put up and shut up then .... don't mean to be nasty but I can't see what your alternatives are other than the ones I have suggested. ren u mioss the point kaz wants the true defenition of a bird mill up not to wine abiout whats happened so... okay bird mill a place where birds are kept in confinment in breeding cages for through out their life time till death subcomes them from some way or another birds breed for sale for money perpuses only ..not for the enjoyment or love of the animal but for solatory income just because someone cares for their birds by feeding and watering them does not mean they breed birds and look after them to breed and look after birds takes a great deal of time and effort not to mention money theirs the all over health and care that needs to be revised each day not just when the bird is sitting on cage floor pumping its tail or worse bird mills do not deal with health issues their awnser to ill health is to simply knock the bird on the head or just replace it when it dies no cleaning of the cage it died in or anything chicks are not allowed to be raised by their peronts in some bird mills a bird mill can consist of two pairs in my belif if thoughs birds are being breed clutch after clutch with no reast and chicks taken at two weeks to be raised by hand in my opinion that is also a bird mill if the intention is to sell the birds for profit bird mills come in many forms shapes and sizes basiclly anyone who breeds birds for constant sale with out resting their birds is a bird mill no mater how good they feed or klean cages

Thanks Clearwing! That's all I could do really - judge on appearance - as the bird did fit the greywing standard reasonably well. Had it been then only greywing benched with nothing else to compare it too I probably wouldn't have questioned it as much either. It would be nice wouldn't it if you could breed this very beautiful variety for it's variety not for meeting the current size and feather standard. It's one of the varieties that suffers so badly when you try and up the size, then the features that attracted people in the first place - namely the strong body colour contrasted with the beautiful clear wings - are lost...... seems somewhat backwards to me. i agree with this totally i dont understand why the birds are all being mutated so far beond their original look what is it that makes people want a budgie that looks like a buffalo or a lion head has been attached these poor birds can not even see and the eye problems must be high matainance im breeding my birds for the way i like them to be and not for what the bench are by other breeders yet they will be at show standeds as required by variety yes i understand that it wont be easy as the feather quantaty really overides most these days i do find this quiet sad relisticly its the big heavy birds that cant even hod their own weaight to fly that i will be steering clear of breeding mabe i will never win but i will have tall long birds with lovely perciced markings proportion nice feather and blow they will be able to see but rather than hidden eyes the feather will direct over the eyes much like the old school birds i feel that the birds are way more showy than the birds breed by some people with the big feather all over their head and they still look beautiful with a full chest tapering down than just one solid bird with so much feather when you pick it up theirs no bird just feather my opinion only

careful what you pray or ask for ren as manifestation can be a strong thing well my birds are all okay so far but since the fires last year im not to bothered about them coping i put up a shade sail over top and a blind to roll down a shade cloth one so its still vented to stop majority of hot sun but have it up half so they can have sun if they like im placing little shallow doxy baths so they can bath and still not be afected from their medical rutine i have small drink bottles around side of aviary floor so any one wants to rest on one they can they were frozen night before all pairs with chick getting water change every few hours to keep water clean and cool the new terracotta pavers make a huge differences their nice and cool i was laying in their myself when they are allowed im going to freeze some strawberry's and fruit like oranges and stewed apples and make squired fruit sticks for them

Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) KD Powder is a water acidifyer sold by Dr Rob Marshall well nub you may just helped me their i been using lemon juce in water and aple cider vin alot as i got told to do to keep cocci at bay and risk of kanker mabe they lost weight from that as all birds lost it oviously it has stopped since treat ment started as for ringing vet yes but they wont take me seriously if i hound them the results were sent off its not in their hands i put all birds back in aviary today though so they can be on last treatment all together in same place i figure its better to have them become amune to each other before treatment ends rather than treat then place all back together

I can't run ACV or KD powder as we run bore water and it is reasonably acidic already. When you add too much acid to birds diets they have trouble absorbing certain nutrients and can become very thin. I found THAT out the hard way - but since water testing and removing ACV all is good. whats acv nubbly ??? or kd powder yes i didnt really want to let that beautiful boy go but he has a great loving home as i knew and as you culled he was everything but very small if i had of had hens with size and or enough about them he would be with me still but i do not i have 3 better cocks from u two of which are half brothers by the mother and split blue so im working with them i will get a lacewing cock when i find a nice wide long one ...lol i will be looking for years im sure i got a lacewing chick from your Opaline light green split lacewing cock though the other day to a white lacewing hen i believe he is not split to blue but his chicks will be and all will be opaline as mum is also hope i get a few cocks still no news from vet im getting quiet impatient now

a simple tarp at night and a censer light works well the light pointing out toward the yard not toward the birds (cos-tic soda and milk blows them up inside out bound to work...at first sip that stuff kills anything )as apposed to shot gun which can miss or just wooned no seriously tarp shade cloth at night and a radio left on

Laurel is another name for Dark Green and is possibly more popular in different parts of the country. It is sometimes used here in Sth QLD but I never heard it used in Vic when I lived there. I prefer Dark Green. thanks mate i wasnt sure what shae green i thought light but now you say dark it makes sense i honestly couldnt remember just that it was used for term of a green bird

i agree here with you and splat, macka i hate the fact that my birds are being medicated right now but vets directions im not even sure they had psittacosis (chlamidia) but vet said to treat so i am the reason i will be bacoxing my birds is i had a small out breake of cocci a few months back and was told to baycox then 3 months later do it again then just when needed if needed im waitting on my rezults grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr still im not happy as if my birds are truley sick and its something else themn they are being treated for wrong issue and thats just a pain in the ....... i really want to give them all some veggies but i know i can not its soooooooooooooooooooooo hard my poor birdies (me)

I give Triple C for a few days IF I see pooey bums OR in the winter if rain has got into the aviary. Cocci is a primary infection and if you have an outbreak you pretty much know about it sooner than later ... I haven't had a mass outbreak - touch wood! yea im still learning whats what of the illness world as in whats really bad what treatable whats pretty much their for good and needs to be kept under wraps what causes it and is it from my doing or en -edibally going to happen regardless of my husbandry

It makes sense if what you mean is that you have to go by the eyes, not the markings. As an example, I have Phoebe, here: Who I originally assumed was DF dom pied. Then I was told she could be Dom/ rec pied. (Combination) Since she has the odd wing marks further down, away from where you would expect a DF dom, I thought that made sense, and could be an indication. So what you are saying, is that I should check Phoebe's eyes. I don't know why I haven't made that a point before. Off the top of my head, I can't remember iris rings. She is in the nest box, right now, but as it is time to check on her eggs, I will try to get a good look when I flush her out. Maybe this will help all us newbies with our ablity to identify! :rip: sorry mabe i confussed you a small bit to know if your bird is df dom, if it look like a rececive pied and has iris rings it most probbly is ...but that alone wont confirm it if its a combination df dom pied as a combination pied may look like a df dom yet be a single factor dom or rec yes the way to tell if its rec or dom is the iriss rings but to know if its df or just miss placed pied markings from the combination that was mixed ..... to be certain if shes df or single factor the only true way is through breeding her if all chicks a single factor doms every time then she is df dom how ever this rule is only for combination pieds as true dom df pieds com from dom to dom pairings that is not to say they could not of both been split rec pied giving a df /rec pied chick oh well thats why its a pain when the pied genetics are mixed mmmmmmmmmmm

sounds like he was not well mate the reason he was most probably discarded sometimes thats just the way it goes birds dont feed a chick its usually for a good reason thy know as we do when their young are not well i would say who ever it came from or where ever it was from also knew this you did well :sadsorry:

when do you start your breeding ren and before hand when do you start your routine medical i use to pair in feb put box in 18th around about eggs layed by start of march april hatch may out nest and have a second lot staggered to have chicks hatching june july out then another stager of birds august hatching sep out and again october hatching november out thats it that was with my pets i havent got a routine with my show birds as yet as im not sure when i should start them I start treating in December. So far my flock has had 1 full course of Fungilin (for Mega) and 1 full course of Turbosole (for Canker). Currently all aviary birds are on their second day of S76 (for Lice/Mites/and some Worms) which I do every month anyway. I'll give them a few days of Probiotics next and then re-do a Fungilin course. THEN I'll be pretty confident about drastically reducing the chances of residual Mega. Before the end of the month is up they'll get a second shorter course of Turbosole. You have to remember that I have had 3 hens diagnosed with low level Canker so everyone has to be treated as a precaution. Some time in February I'll commence the annual Doxy treatment ... I like to separate the hens at the beginning of April and pair up and put down to breed at the end of April when the Autumn rains begin. But it all really depends on when it starts to rain and who is in breeding condition ... The last hens to finish are the last to go down. Most chicks start hatching out in May. thanks for that ren do u treat for cociddia at all
