  1. thanks kaz thats a very handy tip to know i guess that comes with experience too
  2. wow kaz you are how can you tell that ? thats amazing ! the crappy torch i was using to candle was playing up then died after candling that egg so not sure about the other 2 eggs . happy to just have 2 hatched and im sure as i get better at this the results will improve
  3. well i thought i would add a picture of the first chick since its going so well . and look what else there is ! another chickee . #4 was due to hatch yesterday . id given up hope but lo and behold when i went out to take the picture there it was . must have hatched during the night or very early this morning . makes the first one look massive even though there is only 6 days between them . i hope the little one doesnt get squished
  4. missylu ive got room for probably 3 or 4 more pet types without overcrowding too much . would love to get some violet spangles or sky blue yf2's and i like opalines and pieds ( but i have enough pieds now , or so my wife says !). i dont mind driving to sydney to get nice budgies from honest people who look after them properly . baby opaline cobolts and violets i bet they are very cute when will yours be ready to go ?
  5. egg #3 looked only half full when candled and didnt hatch either . must have stopped developing earlier on as it was fertile .#4 was due today but hasnt hatched either , at least the first chick is going really well though .
  6. with birds like eclectus and alexandrine in his avairies i dont think the budgies were high on his priority list and it showed . shame really cos i thought scaly face was easily treated . i had other issues with the cleanliness of the place too and i could smell MICE ! but with so many avairies and birds thats probably to be expected
  7. well i got home a little while ago , with NO BIRDS ! i dont know where to begin as to why . but the main reason is ther were some sick looking birds in the flight avairy with them with some weird facial fungi and that was probably enought to put me off . i didnt want to risk any stress/travel related hassles making them worse either .didnt rate very highly on the breeders evaluation check list either so no birds for me (atleast i had a nice drive !) . the colours were okay but the spangles quite light and didnt look to be well looked after , thats the impression unsightly birds left me with anyway . so the search will go on ! the breeder had more eclectus than you could poke a stick at though but they arent really my thing .
  8. missylu , sorry i forgot to add where they are . they are in st clair near penrith . not sure how far that is from blacktown ? he hasnt sold any of them yet and i wont buy them all so there will still be plenty left after ive been i will post some pics tomorrow anyway if i think they are worth the drive
  9. i will certainly take some pics and unless there are any issues with the birds , health , setup etc im sure to be buying a few , but not all of them as difficult as that will be for me ! besides i want to keep some money and room aside for the bird sale . its quite a long way for me to drive to get them ( 90 minutes ) so i dont want to come home disappointed . oh and i forgot to mention they are pet types
  10. not sure about the dilutes but im going to have a look on sunday . the owner said he had about a dozen violet spangles and dilute spangle youngsters flying about his avirary which are for sale . he didnt say anything about cinnamons . i only know a little about spangles and less about cinnamons , though i am going through the colour and mutations guide at the moment which is very helpful and informative . so much information to take in though :bliss: . if they are cinnamon would the eyes will be different and the spangles will be much lighter ?
  11. thanks for your picture MB she looks very good despite the flash :bliss: and shows the spangles up very nicely too  . im really looking forward to getting somme of my own real soon
  12. i just removed egg #2 from the nest as it hadnt hatched as due 2 days ago . i opened it and found there was an infertile yolk inside . i guess that means that had it been fertile the chip in the outer shell would have made no difference :bliss: . tomorrow i will invest in a torch better suited to candling . jelly bean #1 is going great , i cant believe how fast its growing  . the third egg should've hatched by now but hasnt . fingers still crossed . dad has spent the last 2 nights in the nest box with hen and jelly bean which is something i wasnt expecting to happen , and they seem to be very settled too .
  13. thats good to know that they can adapt like that . now i cant wait to see the birds . if they are half as nice as your one pictured im sure i will be bringing some home
  14. thanks sunnie thats a great start and what a gorgeous baby he was . the birds im looking to buy are still young , have fledged and may or may not have moulted yet so those pics you put up are quite helpful too . im told there are some whose ceres are already changed colour . im concerned that because the ones i may buy are aviary bred and raised they may not take to my planned cabinet breeding attempts later on , or is this not likely to be an issue ?
  15. hi im going to look at some violet spangles and some dilute spangles on the weekend and was wondering if anyone had some pics or information they could post of what i should expect them to look like before i buy any . ive seen other spangles before just not violets or dilutes . as i will be looking to breed them later are there any faults or issues this type have that i need to check for ? thanks in advance .

thanks . shame the pics of my yf and my pied pair had to be removed though
  18. hi chrissy . egg 2 hasnt hatched . looks to have 2 darkish shades inside when i candled it this morning and no movement either so doesnt look good to me . has had a small chip about 1mm round in it since very early on so im thinking maybe the hen did it but not really sure
  19. thanks for clearing that up for me
  20. yf2 you say interesting . george (top right picture) only has some dark blue in his tail feathers whereas jack (bottom picture)has some around his vent ,chest and very dark in the tail feathers though i was expecting these to disappear with this molt . i just assumed george was a normal green and jack got the blue from betty and was split for dom pied . no idea even how i ended up with yf2 . ive always wanted a blue yf2

add to this george and betty who are the most important as they are on eggs atm ( at the time of the moment ), first one hatched at lunchtime today
  22. here are betty ,dom pied and george (curious) normal green and bub jack from unplanned "cage" breeding in march if what ive read is right offspring would be 50% normals + 50% dom pied ?
  23. thanks liv , bub was hatched by lunchtime as you predicted . im happy as and will add some pics later . soooo cute
  24. the first two eggs were laid 1 day apart then the rest every second day . the first egg was laid mid-morning 19/09 and the 2nd egg late afternoon 20/09 . should i still be expecting #2 to hatch tomorrow ? egg #2 is a different shape , more round and has a chip in it , so im not expecting it to hatch . havent candled the eggs yet either
  25. its all good , bub #1 is out , 6 to go and #2 due tomorrow , fingers crossed
