  1. Congratulations on the little fella, Great news about the full crop and I so wish you the best for all the other eggs to hatch and be fed from Mum, alot of first time hens get a bit overwhelmed for the first day or two, then like, they just all of a sudden get it and get to the job at hand. Well done and good luck.
  2. Look! I did find one photo of Smiggle, but I would have loved to have shown you a fully feathered cheeky photo of my beautiful boy. My Dad fell for Smiggle whilst at Mitchell's party last Wednesday so I haven't told him the sad news as yet, but I keeping my fingers crossed he may have just taken a photo that night. Slim chance (that's probably why I haven't rung him yet) but a chance never the less .
  3. Thanks so much guys for your support you don't know how much it means to me, yeah "Smiggle" and I bonded really quickly and he will be deeply missed, but who knows why he died and maybe he was in alot of pain and I didn't even know, I can only hope that Mother Nature has done this for a reason. Thanks again and I will let you know how things are going soon.
  4. Well, I love budgies and my favourite number is 13, what more do I need to say.
  5. Hi, I know it's been awhile since I've been able to get on the forum, I've been organizing my sons 6th Birthday and it was a biggie 33 kids and 26 adults and snakebusters and party food for the kids and a BBQ for the adults. But today I need a shoulder because during the night "Smiggle" passed away and I am devastated, tearing up right now , he had been in the house with us for such a short time, he was only inside for 3 weeks, I bred him and he tamed so quickly (I mean 2 days and he was out of his cage mostly sitting on my shoulder all day). He would give me light little kisses on my cheek and was the best tame budgie I've ever had and that saying alot as I've had tamed budgies since I was about 7 and you can now add another 30 years to that (but ssshhh don't tell anybody). I knew he wasn't himself but with the party on Wednesday night and all the guests I just thought he needed sometime to get over so many people in the house. But then there was the wheeze but no tail bobbing, so I thought this was just him starting to try to talk, as it would come and go and there was no discharge from his nostrils and his poo seemed fine, he had loss some condition but I just didn't realize how sick he actually must have been. It's only day one and I miss him terribly and I can't help but feel if I'd picked up on the symptoms just a little more I could have taken him to the avian vet who came to our club. My boys where beside themselves, we gave him a little burial this morning. The worst part of this whole thing is I didn't even get a photo of him, and I have taken heaps of photos of my breeding budgies to post here, but just in the last couple of weeks I've been so busy with the party and helping out at the boys school, it's just been a really hectic fortnight so the photos hadn't happened and I was actually thinking about the fact I hadn't taken photos just a few days before Mitchells party, because I was wanting to post about how wonderful "Smiggle" had tamed and how much my whole family had loved him, but decided that I would have much more time to do this properly after his party so put it off. Anyway I'm feeling a little better getting this off my chest and one day when I feel the time is right I'll bring another fledging inside to tame.
  6. Great to see this little fellas (or should I say sheila's), Not that I like that word very much but you know what I mean. Looking good so far, and keep us posted to their progess. Hats off to you for doing such a great job so far .
  7. Yep, I tend to agree with the others that you have yourself a little boy there, but a clearer photo would seal the deal .
  8. , It's great to see people who care what happens to budgies :happy-dancing: , even when they're not theirs (although they are now) good on you for taking these guys in, I hope all runs smoothly when the birds reach their new home and keep us posted.
  9. What georgous little gems, I can't wait till next breeding season when I'll have some more pairs up so I can get a nice variety of colours. And the excitment of not always knowing what you'll get. Just normal light greens, 1 normal blue and a couple of Opaline greys this breeding season. Although I do have 1 last chance with a pair whose eggs are about to hatch which hopefully may be yellowface not sure what body colour yet.
  10. Yeah I tend to wait until the last minute before I bid, no point in just upping the price by bidding earlier, but I have noticed that this store has quite a few of these cages and the bidding has never really gone much beyond the starting bid so here's hoping.
  11. Yeah Hills, The postage would be a killer, I'm lucky enough to live close enough to pick it up from the warehouse and not have to pay postage :chickendance: . Sshhh don't tell anyone but I have a round cage :tut_tut: with stand at the moment but am going to bid on this one today, mind you the door of the cage is open I would say at least of 3/4 of daytime hours so hopefully Smiggle isn't getting too stressed out in the cage and it is going to be replace ASAP. Also a BIG for linking the cage onto the forum, I'm doing much better on the computer front since joining this forum but some things are still just a little beyond me. I hope you find a cage which suites you and your feathered friend soon. Budgielover13
  12. How did the vet visit go? And you have to post some photos of Tripod, he/she sounds georgous.
  13. Hi just me again!, There's a cage on ebay which I think would be perfect except for needing to change the perches to the other direction which is easy, I wish I knew how to link ebay items onto the forum but have no idea, anyway as of 1.40am Wednesday night there's a cage which is due to finish auction in 18 hour and 20 mins approx from a seller called Pet Station (9883) which bar spaces is 1 cm and is on a stand with castors, and has a flat roof measurements 77cm X 46cm X 100cm - 160cm with stand for $135, can anyelse check this out :bump: and let me know if I'm right with the assumsion that with the perches changed which I would do anyway to put natural perches in, this cage is a keeper .
  14. Hi Kaz, Sorry to hear the eldest didn't make it , but love the photos, I can't believe how fluffy some of the chicks get the one over the back in this photo just looks like he's a mutant cotton wool ball with head and wings attached! Awwe so cute :bump: .
  15. Yep I also agree with these two very simple solutions, we are a very agreeable bunch here aren't we? The one thing I might add is, has she got some toys in her cage to distract her? Or if she does maybe some new ones? What do they say a change is as good as a holiday!
  16. Hi Fayt :hi: , Being you are only just about to put your birds in the avairy, you will have some time before you need to make up your mind about breeding as we in Australia are coming into the warmer months of the year and it isn't advisable to breed during the warmer months. This will also give your birds some time to adjust to their new surroundings. Take this opportunaty to research, research and research. The more you know about breeding before you start the better and more than anything remember breeding is meant to be enjoyable, yes there are always problems but I find with the help of members on this forum they can generally be resolved and on the most part breeding is a wonderful but time consuming process.
  17. Hi guys, I thought I might post a few photos of our Halloween night I hope I haven't posted too many photos, we had a great night.
  18. Hi Kaz, Just a quick question, have you actually posted anywhere exactly how you tell them apart, what to look for in chicks this young? colour of cere, size and shape of cere and nostrils etc. I wanted to have a go but didn't know what to even start to look for in such young ones. I generally have to wait till they are a clearer pink or purple. Thanks
  19. That's great that the cold eggs are hatching, so good to hear things can still turn out okay even when you think there's no hope. And how about Frostie, Nippy or Shiver for the other cold eggs that hatch. I love reading and catching up on this post, there's always something exciting happening, well when there's 12 eggs and lots of foster parents how can there not be!
  20. Yep, I was gonna post about how Smiggle always seems to turn his head towards my cheek when he sneezes and I cop it on the cheek nearly every time, but yeah Jodie you definately win with coping it in the eye and mouth, and to think I thought the cheek was bad enough.
  21. No my neighbour did it, my son come running in from across the road and asked if it was alright if Julie from across the road could trialed his make-up for halloween which of course I didn't have a problem and about 5 mins later he came flying back in done , talk about having the nack for face make-up. That would have taken me ages and wouldn't have looked anywhere near as good.
  22. Hooray!!! Thanks to all those who help me work out how to copy photos now that it's not as simple as just hitting the IMG code, I now realize that I need to hit the code then right click on the highlighted section and hit copy then return to the forum right click again and then finally click on paste, thanks again.
  23. Hi, Unfortunately we have to go bowling on Friday nights, but we have walked just around the 2 courts near our court for the past 3 years, and on a whole people have been great, people who are not interested generally just don't open their door, but we have had quite a few people who have given the kids something little, ranging from apples to whole blocks of chocolate!!! My across the road neighbour is going to have my boys on Friday night whilst my husband and I go bowling and is going to dress them up. I'm having trouble copying photo's from photobucket at the moment, but I think I post this for now and try and sort some photos out and post them soon. If I had been going to walked the 2 courts near us this year I was going to put flyers in their letter boxes explaining how much effort we go to, with dressing up etc and that it would be lovely if they would put an enclosed "Halloween Friendly" sign on their letter boxes so we would know which houses to approach.
