Due to the colour of this chick it is really hard to get a close up that shows her tiny crest (it's not as well defined as the older chick that died's) but I know some people have been waiting for pics so here she is

So the suspense is killing me and my eye isn't really good enough to be able to tell whether this chick is as promising as I hope. Can others more wise please give me their honest opinion as to whether she has potential and the reasons for your opinion. I'm after constructive comment on what makes her good/bad in the interests of learning and the things you can pick up on at this age. In case you can't tell from the photos she still has the very fine pin feathers just above her cere yet to open so I expect her forehead to thicken up substantially in the next few days

I just wanted to make inimportant point here. When setting up a system like this it is important to be sure that the hose is not sitting in the sun with water resting in and then turned straight on without clearing the hose first as the water that comes out will be VERY hot. There are a few options, insulate the hoses (or bury them), make sure water cannot sit in the hose by having no loops in the hose where water can sit and disconnecting it from the faucet after use so the water drains out of the hose or clearing the hot water out of the hose ppointing it away from the budgies until cold water comes though. The spot where you are geting confused here is that ALL budgies have iris rings you just can't se it normally on a recessive pied because it is dark, on a dom pied it is white. While you can see the ring it isn't white

I suspect that unfortunately her little feet won't ever be good enough for the show bench but she'll be a nice stock bird Her little sister looks okay, maybe not as nce as her sister but she's still in that stage where feathers are opening and looking a little scruffy so a few more days should give a better idea.

Moving house is stressful on birds as well as humans, personally I would be too scared to NOT put her in a small cage to gain weight, the move could kill her if she is too weak

What colour was he saying it was going to be? Apart from anything else you just never know what a pair may be carryin in the recessive form and just happen to throw so there is always a surpise or two

I have both and I wouldn't dream of it. My lorikeets I will put in with larger birds(depending on the species) but never with anything smaller as they can be bossy and even when they are just playing can do some serious damage as their beaks are very sharp.

It is a huge cage, just because you don't like the 'look' of it doesn't mean it's unsuitable. These are the sorts of cages which were used all over the world before mass produced metal cages came on the market and they are still used in many places now
