Pearce's Budgerigar Blog
Just keep a close eye on them and make sure they are coping fine as they can get bullied when they are little

Pearce's Budgerigar Blog
As long as they are eating well on their own then I would be happy to put them in the aviary on a not too cold day at that age

Help! Splayed Legs
I have used one with vanilla flavour in it in a pinch but I wouldn't use chocolate, it might be fine I just don't feel the need to risk it.

Show Or Pet?
At four weeks I find mine are nearly fully feathered with a bit of fluff still under the wings

Help! Splayed Legs
Put the makeup sponge back on and give a drop to the beak each day, also I am fairly convinced that a good supply of protien is important for recovery from things like this as it helps muscle development and good muscletone will help support the legs in their correct position. Can you get some whole egg powder or even some protien powder from a healthfood shop?

Do they get a calcium supplement?

Lovely New Cage!
If it's that wide then it's fine, you originally said it was 1.4cm which is a bit on the wide side so that's why members were worried. A budgies head is smaller than it looks as their feathers make them look wider so even a few millimetres can make all the difference. I have seen budgies squeeze their entire body through 2cm bars so getting their head stuck 14mm bars is qute possible

Lovely New Cage!
We have all agreed that it's a great cage we are just worried about the safety of your budgie if the bar spacing isn't suitable. Would you rather we didn't say anything until after there was a horrible accident?

Welcome To Melbourne-
Hopefully okay, they have plenty of shelter in their aviaries and they are large birds so slightly better surface area to volume ratio than a small bird. The budgies and ringnecks are in the garage in large aviaries so it's still cold out there but they have a bit more protection. It's not a park, its an army barracks. The only problem is that if we get strong wind in Melbourne we really cop it being so exposed up on the hill. That peaked aviary in the middle got flattened during the windstorms in May and has been repaired but it's never been quite the same since.

Resurrection Of The Budgerigar?
Sorry I should have made myself clearer. I wasn't necessarily implying that we had changed colours from the original. The pet type budgies we keep in the fancy are a long way removed from the original in shape as well as colour as seen below: Show type(a poor one admitedly), pet type, wild type Wild type budgies are like mosquitos, they are absolutely tiny

Resurrection Of The Budgerigar?
The reality Hills is that even a standard pet type budgie wouldn't do all that well in the wild. I own a pair of true wild type budgies as well as pet types and show types and the wild types are a totally different kettle of fish to either of the other two

I'm Going Mad
Jaz, You are new so you wouldn't be aware of the situation with these birds. They have been rescued from apalling conditions where they were fed very poorly, it is likely they have ever even seen a vegie :hi: Here's the link so you can read their story http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index....c=22998&hl=

I'm Going Mad
Seriously have you tried celery leaves? I have found that almost every bird will try them and while they aren't good in large amounts as they are a tad watery they are good to try an encourage them to eat other vegies, I us them as a 'starter' vegie for birds not used to eating their vegies

New Boy...what Is He?

Queensland Storms .. And Budgies..

I'm Going Mad
I had a pair of aviary birds which I brought inside earlier this year to breed during winter. When I brought them in they were very scared of me and wouldn't come anywhere near. After about a month or so they starte to settle down and after about four months we actually managed to get them both to land on our shoulders albiet breifly and eat some celery leaves from our hands!!! The thing that really worked for me was to find a food the LOVED (celery tops for them) and make a show of holding my hand in their cage with the celery leaves for just a minute and then slowly putting it into their bowl so they could see that it was my hand bringing their favorite treat. Once they relaxed in their cage I started letting them out for a fly and they would go back on their own when they were ready (be aware that this make take quite a few hours until they feel hungry again) You wil find that over time they will relax around you it will just take patience and understanding. Try putting the treat foods at the end of the cage closest to where you sit so that they begin to associate moving towards you with a reward.

Centre For Disease Control-
C.D.C Warning The Centre for Disease Control has issued a medical alert about a highly contagious, potentially dangerous virus that is transmitted orally, by hand, and even electronically. This virus is called Weary Overload Recreational Killer (WORK). If you receive WORK from your boss, any of your colleagues, or anyone else via any means whatsoever, DO NOT TOUCH IT. This virus will wipe out your private life completely. If you should come into contact with WORK, you should immediately leave the premises. Take two good friends to the nearest grocery store and purchase one or both of the antidotes - Work Isolating Neutralizer Extract (WINE) and Bothersome Employer Elimination Rebooter (BEER). Take the antidote repeatedly until WORK has been completely eliminated from your system. You should immediately forward this medical alert to five friends. If you do not have five friends, you have already been infected and WORK is Controlling your life.

Rustic Planters
:hi: I couldn't live without a bath (and a decent size one since you know how tall I am a little bath just doesn't cut it). I don't get time to have one very often what with my kids, etc keeping me busy but when I really feel like one it's nice to be able to have one. A nice big bath is first on the list for when we get our own house and start renovations

Regurgitating But Nothing Coming Out
Also if you are thinking about gettng another budgie read up on quarantine in the FAQs section. If your budgie has been living alone for a long time it is even more important as his immune system may not be as strong as a budgie in a 'flock' situation(such as an aviary)

Weird Bugs In Seed?
I really depends on the time of year, they can't harvest seed all year in all parts of Aus so it's inevitable that at some times of the year seed will have been stored for some months. It is not necessarily the fault of the person you bought it from, may have simply been seed sent from a different supplier up north via the wholesaler because it's not warm enough to harvest locally yet or something like that. If they've never had a problem before I wouldn't worry too much unless it becomes an ongoing issue.

Sounds like you need to go have a hot bath!!
