She's perched in the show cage as we speak having a lovely preen SHe's so cruisy

If I thought it would stress her I wouldn't take her but in this case she has been handraised in a busy household with screaming children, etc, etc. I recall joking with AV a while ago that a show would be like a relaxing holiday for birds from my house I have been training her in the show cage for about a week now on the off chance she developed enough before the show. Time will tell I guess, will see what she looks like the day before.

She's out of the nest and perching (the cinnamon chick) but she just seems to be slow getting her adult feathers under her wings :rolleyes Her sister is fully feathered and she's only a few days older

I have a chick which I am desperately hoping will be ready for UBC at the year's last show in 10 days time, she's just got that last bit of down under her wings with full length pin feathers poking through but not yet open. Any chance? How much longer can I expect her tail to get in that time? I know it sounds mean but if I pluck some of the down will it speed things up?

Oh Chryso what a horrible thing to go through. I'm only five minutes down the road from templestowe so please give a yell if I can help with anything or having her there isn't working out for any reason (or even if you want me to babysit Squee so she is close) I've worked as a vet nurse so I'm pretty quick off the mark if something doesn't seem right or changes with an animal

Actually legally all pet shops have to offer a minimum health guarantee including giving your money back if they are found to have had the illness on sale of the animal

Don't know about there Kaz but here petshops aren't the RSPCA's concern they are under the jurisdiction of the local councils rangers

EXACTLY I worked at one pet shop where I was specifically brought in as the 'aquarium expert' for my knowledge of fish and fish treatments as while the shop was owned by a vet he knew very little about treating fish. The only problem I had was that one of the other members of staff wouldn't let me treat tanks with sick fish in them if the treatment changed the colour of the tank because 'it made the fish look sick'! Aw der, the sick fish made the fish look sick It got so bad that she started hiding the treatments and I had to go to the manager and she got 'spoken to'. Idiot staff members cause the vast majority of the problems

Most pet shops do have a vet tat visits or which they take animals to as they need to have pups and kittens vaccinated and chipped prior to sale

I my experience species events (such as rabbit and budgie exhibitions) at shows are generally by local clubs for that species. Your best bet would be to contact your local rabbit club and budgie club and ask them

Maybe visit again in a little while and if there are still dodgy birds in there say nothing and just report them to the ranger.

Personally if I was a pet shop owner I'd be putting ivermec spot on every bird that came in, given I can get over 100 treatments out of the little bottle I buy for $3 it wouldn't be expensive

I think it depends on the pet shop, a good one wouldn't have bought those birds in the first place. I have worked at a few pet shops and I must say the ones I have worked at have been generally good and in those ones the 'back room' isn't a bad thing. At the first shop I worked at not even a goldfish was put down for something treatable, the owner had a tank in his office which was for sick fish and any sick or injured animals were always looked at by the vet. In the second one the pet shop was actually owned by a vet who even operated on one of the shop rats once for a tumour :sadsorry:

I agree that he's a DF spangle, the pale blue is suffusion and is common in DF spangles.

A hen can't be split opaline, ino or cinnamon but a cock can, if you got any opalines, inos or cinnamons they would all be hens. The only other way you can get something else is if they are both split for a recessive variety such as recessive pied

Providing they have been quarantined I have always just put them straight in and then kept an eye on things, I've never had a problem

Yeah, good ole guppies that breed like rabbits, gotta love em!! He's giving me about 30 by th sound of it so in a tank that size and given they are still fairly small thats a good number to start with, I figure I'll just let them gradually fill the tank on their own :rofl: The only ones I'llhave to buy are the bristlenose

I must say it feels great to have a tank again. I have worked professionally in the aquarium industry both wholesale and retail in the past but haven't had a tank for a couple of years now. I'm enjoying looking at it so much, it's like having a little ecosystem in your lounge room

My ittle crested chick has some dark wing feathers. She's a spangle and I'm not sure whether they are just random miscoloured feathers or whether it is some sort of recessie pied fluke or something
