  1. My babies have aso been handraised on Neocare and it has been great I think it's a really good product. If you can't get whole egg powder, egg whte powder would be K as it is the highest protien part of the egg. Otherwise hard boil an egg and hen put it in the blender or barmix it so it's rally fine and add a little to the Neocare.
  2. Do any of the other local breeders have teenage kids that might like to earn some pocket money? In my experience mum or dad almost always does half the work anyway and chances are any kidof a long term budgie breeder will know what to do anyway
  3. While you are waiting to get into the vet you can try and discourage scratching by making a mini elizabethan collar, out of a cardboard cereal box will be fine if it's only needed for a day or two. Instead of pointing the collar forwards so it fans around the face put it on the other way so it fans over the top of the wing bases, this should make scratching with the feet in that area difficult.
  4. Given it only appeared for one day before I treated it I'm hoping the problem won't continue. I will watch it and if it looks to be returning I'll put it back on but so far it looks like its sitting nicely.
  5. Yep Well so far the news is good, she wore her beak orthotic all night again and I took it off this morning, as of now her beak looks perfect Her toes will be more difficult but we'll keep working on them
  6. M card reader is cactus sorry Kaz so I'll have to provide photos at some stage in the future when I can get a new one To give you an idea though in both cases they were simply a piece of soft plastic cut to an appropriate shape and taped into place. The beak one is a teensy square slightly wider and longer than her beak (you don't want it to be able to go down her throat or obstruct her breathing) which is then placed inside the top beak and taped over the top avoiding the nostrils of course. She has tolerated this surprisingly well! I experimented with a few types of tape to find one that would be up to the task and the only one that stayed stuck well enough but could still be removed easily was the plastic bandaids which I cut into thin strips and removed the pad from the middle. The foot ones are simply a small rectangle which is taped over the two front toes and two back toes on either side of the ankle
  7. Thought some here might be interested to know what the initial results of my efforts with the little chick are. Well she wore her beak orthotic overnight last night to help correct her mild underbite. I felt this would be the least stressful time for her to wear it as she sleeps then rather than wanting to pick at seed, etc. She kept it on overnight and I took it off at around lunchtime today as it wasn't bothering her. Her beak seems to be sitting in a much better position this afternoon so I left it off for the afternoon/evening to give her a break and put it back on before bed to help her beak set in the right position. As far as her feet she wore one of her orthotics for a few hours last night before kicking it off and even that short amount of time seemed to make a difference. She is currently wearing one on the opposite foot and she is living on a deep litter of rolled oats and budgie seed to reduce pressure on her feet and encourage her to flex her feet more to gain strength, so far so good but only time will tell. If I can continue to provide gentle treatment to her feet for another week or so I can start encouraging her to perch which will be the best thing for her
  8. As far as breeders in Melbourne on BBC it is basically me and Angelic Vampyre and we are both a fair way from you, I'm near Greensborough and AV is near Burwood. The auction should be a great chance to find someone local
  9. It could have mites... a photo would help heaps
  10. That's what I want Kaz!! Where do you get them from?
  11. That number is for an aviarry with NO nest boxes, actually it can completely screw up the dynamics having same sex aviaries which is why I keep mine mixed, with no nest boxes the problems are generally few even in a mixed aviary
  12. You can put her back in the aviary once the dad has finished raising the babies as long as you remove the nest boxes first
  13. As long as it were safely attached of course would the budgies deem it suitable though?
  14. I have decided I would prefer deeper boxes for my breeding birds as I have found even quite small babies are able to launch themselves out of the ordinary ones. Short of custom making them which I don't really have the time to do I was wondering if tiel boxes would be suitable?
  15. Well if I had seen the baby photos I would have said hen too
  16. Definitely boy I would say, the reason part of it's cere looks darker is due to the black sheen some have as babies
  17. The mites are only infectious to other birds and even then they are something which isn't life threatening in the less advanced forms just more irritating. Get something as soon as possible to fix it but don't stress if it takes a few days or even a week or two to get a suitable product as it's something which will only progress quite slowly. Don't be suckered into using one of the products from a pet shop as they are waste of money. If you can find a local budgie club or a vet who will sell you some ivermectin spot on that ould be the best
  18. I actually think the one on the right looks like a male and the one on the left a hen. Is it the one on the right doing the 'kicking' it might be trying to mount the other
  19. The egg white is higher in protein I believe and the yolk is higher in fat, it's the reason yuppy dieters ask for egg white omelettes So if you wanted to give lots of protein with less fat you would be best to feed just the white
  20. I meant the rearing food that I'm crop feeding incase you hadn't assumed that:lol:
  21. In the meantime could I mix a little finely blended whole boiled egg into the handrearing food ?
  22. It comes in 5kg bags also I also found some info that said that Farm Pride and also Pace Farms sell or atleast used to sell it in 3-400g tubs as well, might give them a call on Monday
  23. Anyone? The handy thing is that the company is located in Melbourne so we might even be able to pick it up directly
  24. Depends on the size and position but I would have atleast two of each. I have a large water bowl (which is a bird bath) plus one of those plastic dispenser type waterers which they sell for dogs and cats, for food I have only one large dish at the oment but I'm adding to that a dispenser feeder this weekend
  25. Seriously a handled budgie which is parent reared will be very tame when you get it
