  1. I think clipping their wings at least once would be a sensible idea. You should find that once this is done they will be less inclined to fly madly around the room and it will be less stressful on them if you need to catch them. I wouldn't get rid of one at this stage as I think once their wings are clipped you should see a fast improvement.
  2. Will do DrNat, she is healthy now, just looking scruffy after her treatment. Once she moults out the ugly feathers she should be a beauty. I don't have a recessive pied. I kinda want to try and get some pink eyed whites (ie. non inos). I was thinking about putting her to my spangle fallow male, since she is also spangle I guess I would have a chance of DF spangle pink eyed whites?
  3. It is a pretty standard mix I think, a couple of types of millet, hulled wheat(or oats, whatever they are), a little sorghum and the sunflower that I add myself
  4. I buy a budgie pre-mix from the stockfeed place which I add a small amount of sunflower to over winter to give them just a tiny bit more fat while it is so cold.
  5. These are the three other birds that I recieved at the same time, they are pretty typical of most of her birds:
  6. okay, to make it clearer hopefully, this is basically the layout with table and chaird in the centre and one corner left open for access
  7. It will be a big bush block hopefully Maesie, campers will be welcome The area in the centre of the circle of aviaries I want open air so that we can have a barbie there and a picnic table, etc.
  8. We are buying ten or twenty acres in the country just so I can have my aviaries Won't be immense numbers of birds, the main idea of having 5-10 is so that different species can be seperated, there will probably be one with finches in it, one for budgies and tiels, etc, one for small neophemas(torquoise parrots, red rumps, etc) and then a few for larger species like galahs(my personal favorite), cockies, kings, etc. One of the aviaries will probably be segmented into smaller breeding cages incase I want to breed them. OH and I have also talked about building the aviaries with removable dividers so that I can adjust them to any size I like! In a seperate area of the roperty we will also be installing a quarantine area.
  9. The covered area on the sides to keep mice out is what I mean by a 'mouse guard' Norm, I think that will be essential. The carport and large shed ideas would essentially have the roof all covered the greenhouse idea would be more difficult to put a roof on due to the shape.
  10. That looks great Derek but not really what I am thinking. I don't want a breeder setup I just want large flight aviaries to house birds from finches all the way up to cockies. There will be between 5 and ten aviaries in total, to allow me to seperate species, set out on a semi-circle and with as much wire as possible facing into the centre of the circle (where there will be a picnic table, etc.)....full flight size of each aviary will be atleast as large as your average two car garage
  11. When we move I want to have BIG aviaries. The problem is there aren't really any aviary builders that make them the size I want. So I have come up with a couple of ideas. 1. A frame from a greenhouse with a covered end, a mouse guard and a wire end. 2. 2 carcCarports with 1 1/2 sides covered in, a mouse guard and the rest wire 3. Large sheds with large wire inserts in the walls. Any thoughts/suggestions? My worry with the shed idea is that it would be more prone to heating up.
  12. I have NEVER seen my pair mate and they have two babies at the moment
  13. Nice to meet you properly. Lots of us on here seem to have young kids. I have a 19 month old and almost 4 year old boys. Lots of birds, cat, rabbit, blue tongue lizards, a rat and we are waiting for our new puppy in 7 weeks. Trust me the forum definately gets addictive, I'm doing uni work right now can't you tell!!?
  14. Yahtzee makes me think of that revolting weedy little guy on Ghostbusters What was his name Yanzee?
  15. Are the very first pin feathers that start to show up kind of under the skin before they break through dark on dark birds and light on light birds or do they always look dark?...if that made any sense! The older one has definately got the dark flecks under the skin which will be the pin feathers starting, should start to see some on the younger one ina couple of days.
  16. Well it's done that now, how sad when I know it was alive only a couple of days ago I'm 99% sure that slightly smaller, darker one you are referring to is the clear one in that photo. Guess we will just have the two babies this time around. This is their first clutch for quite a while and despite the issues with the eggs they are good parents so I might let thm go again. I am hoping they'll give me a df spangle
  17. When that baby was born there was still a live moving baby in the other two eggs, maybe that one is the clear one?
  18. This is the first baby at two hours old Sorry I haven't posted more, life has kinda got in the way the last week one of those four eggs was clear and the third and final hasn't hatched so might be DIS This first one is now starting to get dark pin feathers showing under the skin so we are looking forward to fluff soon
  19. She is cute, but in the same way as a scrappy stray dog that's missing half it's fur :nest:
  20. Looks like it to me, I would set her up in wherever you want to breed them and put a box in for them. I wouldn't worry about the 18 days that is nothing in reality.
  21. Ooohh...good luck Maesie, I'll cross everything for you
  22. Sorry I got myself confused, I meant dutch pied
  23. I'm probably way over my councils guidelines, I don't think they really care as long as they aren't upsetting the neighbours, plus I challenge the ranger to stand there and try and count whether there are thirty or fourty in there
  24. You could try taking the nest boxes out for a week or two and then putting them back, sometimes when they haven't seen it and then it appears they get excited and want to breed
