  1. Sunnie for photos I have found that if you press the camera right up to the bars you can normally get a shot through the bars. Lovely birdies!
  2. Try bribing him with some of his fave foods in your hand and let him come to you. He might just need to readjust a bit.
  3. Norm providing it is in a warm draft free roomwould there be any real issue with her breeding in the corner? I mean the babies aren't gonna fall out of the nest or anything that way so the only problem I can see is warmth and mum should provide most of that.
  4. I have one here that comes close. I think she is a double factor spangle fallow or maybe pied I think. She has a couple of spangle markings on her wings but other than that she is basically clear except for a very faint violet sheen on her rump and maybe her chest. I suspect that as a result of the df spangle she has lost the cobalt base but somehow kept the violet from over the top. I unfortunately need to wait until she moults to confirm this as she is a rescue and was treated for an injury with a cream that has left her feathers dirty brown so it is hard to see her true markings but what she has is definately only a faint sheen rather than a true deep violet colour. She has red eyes with iris rings
  5. Make sure the room he is in doesn't get dark by keeping plenty of light in there. If he thinks it is getting towards night time he is probably telling you that he is getting ready for bed and he doesn't want to get off hs sleeping spot.
  6. If you want to persevere I would sit their dish on a larger plate on the floor of the cage so that if he digs it out again the plate will catch it, atleast until he stops misbehaving
  7. How about Pete! Is there yellow on his tummy from the look of that first picture? He looks dominant pied.
  8. Three days after number one the second has finally arrived, now I don't know whether to still expect the next tomorrow or whether it will be Thursday or even Friday before we see it. You don't realise how much they grow in just three days until you see the size difference! He is about half the size of the first one.
  9. It's mine, it's mine, it's all mine!!!!...well assuming no-one else bids
  10. That's a good idea too Neat.
  11. Probably not Kaz, but a large wire strainer sitting in a big bowl would do the same thing.
  12. "Well first of all we need to discuss some health code violations, I mean a good restaurant would not have me standing on my plate"
  13. I have found an easy way to soak seed that allows you to easily rinse without losing half of it down the sink or transferring to a strainer all the time. If you put your seed in the wire basket of one of those little tea pots that is a pot with a wire basket to put your leaves in you can easily lift it out and replace the water or rinse it without the seeds going everywhere. I now have three sitting on my bench which I cycle through when I need soaked seed on a daily basis.
  14. I've only just seen this thread for the first time since it has been bumped up. BB I like to walk into pet shops that sell cross breeds and 'pure breds'(no papers of course) for such exhorbitant amounts of money and 'mutter' rather loudly about the high prices and how I could buy a health tested animal from a breeder for that price The sales assistants often don't like it but I have seen more than one interested customer walk away to rethink their plans after that.....Thankfully I have never had the 'overqualified' one given to me but I have only ever applied to privately owned shops rather than the franchise ones.
  15. How many birds in total do you have in the aviary, is it just the four or are there more?
  16. I don't think he knows he's a bird
  17. He's in lurve!!!!!
  18. Beleive it or not atleast one from this clutch is already sold, someone that took one from my last clutch recommended me and the person is happy to wait for a baby from me
  19. Definately an interesting topic Derek, I think it depends on your goals. Breeding at a young age in many animals has been shown to stunt the growth of the female. So going on that it would be unwise as a show breeder to risk having smaller hens as a result of breeding them if you wanted to put those hens on the show bench in the future. Of course this small size is not genetic so this is only really an issue if you plan to show a bird. Most of my birds are over a year old so I haven't had to deal with this issue much yet, although personally I think as long as they are in the best of health I don't see any problem withbreeding a bird from about 8 months, but if they showed any sign of not coping I would be inclined to remove them and wait until they were older and foster eggs or chicks, but I guess that goes for a bird of any age.
  20. Fingers crossed :DI suspect that it might be a small clutch though as atleast one of the other eggs in there is clear so at the most there will be three.....just checked the other three there are two with definate wriggling babies inside and one definately clear. Since this is the second time I have checked that one and found it clear I have chucked it.
  21. Hen: Violet spangle Cock: skyblue spangle(violet)
  22. My photos of greywings seem to look a bit brownish on my screen so I think it's just my computer.
  23. I checked this morning at about 9am and still four eggs, checked just now and we only have three eggses and 1 chick! I have taken a photo so I'll post it up when I have a chance.
  24. Libby if you look carefully you can see markings in the V between her shoulders so probably not opaline. If it wasn't for the eyes she is identical to my fallows which is very interesting
  25. Then I agree with Libby
