  1. Sounds like an albino with lots of green suffusion that the yellow bled through turning him 'green', would have been pretty!
  2. I guess a greywing grey budgies would kinda look silver
  3. I just had a good chuckle at my little budgie baby boy who has just come out of the nest and is now experimenting with his wings. He just sat there on the floor of the cage flapping his little wings as fast as he possible could whirring like a little hummingbird, thought he was about to take off with the entire cage in tow he was trying so hard
  4. Hmmm, hey Neat remember what I said about BBC members being dags, it wasn't just you I was referring to
  5. They won't breed unless you give them somewhere to breed. As long as you don't provide anything that looks like a nest box there is no reason your boy couldn't be in with one or all of the girls If chirp the bossy girl is okay with your boy I would put then together and try your new girl with Abbie, that way you could have two cages each with two budgies in. Don't forget to quarantine your new girl Edited to add: You don't necessarily need to get a new girl of course, there is no reason you couldn't get a boy
  6. If we are spellchecking now TB there are still one too many s's in there
  7. Sorry Neat, the brains not working tonight, too much study I think. The law speak is making me gaga, a little loopy .
  8. Is there a criteria that I didn't see which says BBC members have to be total dags
  9. So have we Neat It's only my family becoming impatient and giving us a kick in the pants that we are finally doing it
  10. SJW the tail is not how you pick them from a regular spangle but how you pick them from a normal bird. A normal bird will have a dark tail and normally patterned (dark) wings, a regular spangle will have a light tail and light wings and a melanistic spangle will have a light tail and dark wings. Make more sense
  11. I'd say so, the main challenge will be keeping them clean!!! Luckily their suits are black (well Alex's is pinstripe but essentially black) so it will mainly be the shirts. We are planning to buy two shirts so we can take a spare incase of disasters just before the photos
  12. I think french moult is not a huge problem as adults, pm Kaz as I believe she has a couple of FM budgies in her aviary with no problems.
  13. Well my youngest doesn't really get it but my four year old is very excited as he will be the ring bearer, he's got a suit already (a little big to allow for growth) and he looks like he is about to run away and join the mafia when he has it on My little one isn't in the bridal party but he has a smart little pair of black suit pants to wear and a 'suede' jacket. I have been lucky enough to find a wonderful woman to make our flowers who is even going to make two mini size buttonholes for the boys that will look the same as the buttonholes worn by the blokes but half size
  14. Umm well if its a healthy budgie with a strong immune system it will naturally fight it, if not it may die. That's what natural selection is all about. In WA many of the herbivorous native animals are naturally immune to the chemical used in 1080 (fox bait) because over there it occurs naturally in many of the native plants and they have evolved to tolerate it. Animals from this side of Aus aren't able to tolerate it and would be poisoned if they ate those plants.
  15. Thankfully I am pretty much finished with uni (FOR EVER!!!!) other than my exams so I will be able to spend more time on getting this last stuff sorted now
  16. It only takes one and the hormones seem to be contagious then congrats!
  17. I have similiar problems with my lorikeet, for that reason I have resolved to always handrear in pairs or more so that they bond to their birdy friend as well as their owner, I find it reduces those problems.I guess I am thinking that since I am the one putting in the work I should expect to pay about what you would pay for an aviary bird that wasn't hand reared (since I am not paying for the breeders rearing time), does that make sense?
  18. I just work on the theory that if there are six eggs in there for a total of twelve days apart. If the first egg still hasn't hatched after day six or seven I can pretty well discard it (as long as I know my hen started sitting straight away of course) rather than waiting until it is fourteen or fifteen days past its due date.
  19. Can you tell me a bit about your bird (temperament, noise level, etc), I know a couple of members have them I have been offered some two-three week old babies for me to hand rear in a little while and I am just considering whether to go ahead with it. Can you tell me also what you paid for your bird(if you don't mind) as I'm trying to work out if it's a good price. He is offering me $150 for green and $200 for blue. Thanks guys
  20. I have some spangle cocks that came out of an aviary with lots of opaline hens but I'm not positive they are split so I would have to do a test mating. I'll give it a go and see what happens I guess, my spangles are GF so they should have nice babies anyway
  21. I have seen pics and I think they are rather pretty, I'm starting to think about what my next pairing will be and I have a really pretty skyblue opaline hen in my aviary. To get opaline spangles does the cock also have to be split for opaline or can I just put her to a spangle? I have a couple of spangles which may be split for opaline but I'm not positive so it would be kind of pot luck. Also what would be the result if he isn't split for opaline (ie a straight opaline hen to a straight spangle cock) is that one of those situation where I would just get normals(but splits)????
  22. I only find it handy just to know whether eggs are passed their due date and when to expect which to hatch Handy to know if you suddenly get a four day break between babies which one was supposed to be in the middle and didnt make it.
  23. Ummm...I don't actually have one, neither of us are really photo people We have lots of photos of our kids! will definately post one when the big day comes though, they will be the first photos we have ahd taken together in 8 years (24th of August before anyone asks:) )
  24. Just make sure you keep all her perches, etc very clean while she recovers to minimise the risk of infection, as TB said a little Savlon, just watch she isn't chewing it or anything
