I agree with the 'y generation' comment. I guess I am probably part of the y generation being in my 20s but I was raised by parents who have always expected us to be accountable for our own actions, be aware of our limitations and listen to people that know more than us. Some of the people I go t uni with I look at them and think "Wow, how will you survive in the real world, you have NO idea!" I have kids too though so maybe that gives me a little more insight than my bachelor mates...

Banning the sale of pups and kittens from pet stores won't solve the problem though, there needs to be a law requiring the desexing of dogs and cats not kept for genuine breeding purposes. Whether or not you stop the sale in pet shops you will still have the hundreds of people that advertise in the trading post every week

The worst thing is thatmost of these licences have no education requirement anyway, just money changing hands. Like basic wildlife licenses, you don't need to provide any proof that you are capable of caring for those animals just a willingness to send them a cheque, what does that prove!!
  4. I haven't tried it yet as I haven't had a rodent problem here, a bloke I know swears by it in his chook shed. Apparently the icing sugar makes it like lollies for them and they love it, the cement sucks the water out of them from the inside :ewww:I personally doubt it would be any slower than poison, I have had a pet rat accidentally poisoned (don't ask...) and despite our best afforts she died two days later, it is definately not quick and painless
  5. Yes but if you give it to them when it hasn't been mixed with water and set it sets in ther stomach and kills them
  6. I don't use it either for that reason I'm going to try a 50:50 mix of cement and icing suger that someone reccomended to me
  7. Someone needs to tell the rats that budgies have rights! Be careful that your dogs don't grab a rat that has eaten poison!

Theoretically pet stores are obliged to keep their animals to certain standards, etc. The main prolem is a lack of policing
  9. Hey AV I love your new sig!
  10. Thats because rats will hunt and eat mice so when there are rats around thay tend to scare the mice away and the mice will only return when there are no rats
  11. My immediate feeling is that I would get it a friend, it seems very upset, moreso than most budgies get after the loss of their mates. It is unusual for budgies to pull feathers out. You coud try and find someone near you with a budgie and take him into a room with a budgie in another cage and see if he perks up at the sound of the other one chirping, thAt would be the decider for me
  12. Cool, I'll give it a go later on the cock as he is pretty quiet and less likely to struggle
  13. Can anyone tell me how many feathers I need to be removing? I am very soon going to try my first pair of show types and to make matters worse the hen I intend to use has a mild case of ricketts from when she was a chick, so it will be even more important to make the mating as easy as possible for them. Any advice? Or piccies?
  14. Hey AV, I can recommend the Greensborough Produce store, good prices and great seed
  15. I'm going mad, I just checked and mine is tetracycline, how different is that?
  16. I used to have a galah called Stormy, I think it's a great name! It described our galahs personality perfectly
  17. Well that's the thing there is ALOT of research needed for that.
  18. Except the rest of us know AV better than that It'll be one here and one there and suddenly there will be 40 !
  19. I think a predictor which allows you to combine a bird with more than one mutation and also known splits would be great. The ability to punch in the identifier of the potential hen and cock and have the program use their known details such as parentage automatically, whithout the user having to punch it in. Plus of course the basics of pedigrees, etc
  20. That's great AV! I was thinking aboutgetting a program but maybe I'll wait and see if he comes up with a good one
  21. I have a cute little blue normal hen here you can have if you like she's pet type though The bright yellow pied bloke is feeding and trying to do the nasty with the yellow faced mauve girl does that sound right?
  22. I just get it from my local pet shop Daz, I have never had much trouble finding it
  23. The blues are both opalines The other pair I can't remember which ones they were I should have written it down. You could put heaps in that aviary! I comfortably but 25 budgies and 10 tiels in my aviary (I had lots more than that when you came here though- about 35 budgies short term ) That aviary is bigger than mine.
  24. Looks great AV, I have done a reshuffle here so that I can seperate the new guys out for quarantine and tomorrow I am going to turf a couple of my breeding pairs back in the aviary as they don't want to breed and I'll let the two pairs you gave me do their quarantine in the breeding boxes since they sound keen. A few days to relax, then worming for them once they are calmer.
  25. So short of a straight normal (which is about the only thing I don't have) what is the next best thing to breed my df spangle dom pied to? I have two opaline girls which have great throat spots, but they are opaline, is that necessarily bad?, ..I do have a spangle hen with nice black markings but no throat spots but she is pet type whereas the df spangle cock is show type.
