Red & Pink Budgies
The Orange is what they used to call " hot coloured lutino." These are bred by using dark factor birds. Many breeders of old had these, Margery Kirby-Mason, Harry Harrison to name a few. I have no doubt that Jorge DePina acquired some of these lines from his mate Binks. Mr Harrison had the best show quality Lutino's, like the one below. "> I'm sure pink and red mutations have popped up from time to time. Even with a nest box full of pink or red young it may not be enough to establish a line. Which I'm also sure is what has happened in the past! But it's nice to dream Derek! One day it may be you! What would you call this? A Pink face greyType 2 Recessive pied? "> Last one looks like a cross between a budgie and a galah.

First Aviary Advice Please
Hi Steve What you are talking about is similar to mine here http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index....showtopic=18798 1.5 wide X 2.2 deep and 1.8 high. Made by Absco and cost just over $600. However, what I did was buy it from Harvey Norman on the latest deal - no deposit, no interest no payments until 2010. That's 22 months interest free. Mate also something to think of. Search on eBay. I have seen some great bargains on there for pretty well near brand new aviaries.

My New And First Aviary For 20 Years
I bought 4 small angle brackets and simply screwed it through the walls. One good thing about a metal aviary just drill and screw it.

My New And First Aviary For 20 Years
Have just finished giving the breeding cages a lick of paint and installed them inside the aviary. As you can see they fit neatly behind the screen so that the other birds can see but not touch. Nest boxes are new built by Daz.

Red & Pink Budgies
Below is an extract from John Scoble's book, The Complete Book Of Budgerigars. He discusses the posibility of a red and/or pink mutation and the fact that it has appeared before. What are your thoughts

Soaked Soup Mix- And Spinach And Bok Choy ?
I am thinking out loud here as much as anything but I would have thought that the dried lentils, peas and barley would have lost most of their vitamins and proteins byt the time they get to the budgies. Anyone thought of that.

Black Faced Budgerigar
I actually find all of the mutations quite intriguing. What I find even more interesting on this one is the fact that he found the two original birds at a market sale. Usually I don't even bother looking at birds at the market but this has prompted me to actually do so in future. Never know, it could mutate here in Australia.
