  1. Thats why I'm a little confused, they are always right but I thought that YF1 couldn't bleed into the body colour... I guess it can
  2. I didn't think type 1 bled into the colouring of the body... hasn't it done that near the check patches and turned the body colour green? Or is it just type 1 with a fault? or are my eyes just playing tricks on me?
  3. do they even show type 2? I thought I read on here that they didn't...
  4. yep I get it. Thanks. What about if you bred a dutch pied to a Dominant pied would they both show? or would 50% be normal with 25% dom pied and 25% dutch pied??? Or do they look the same anyway?
  5. sorry I have no clue...
  6. I was almost going to respond to an old thread today that I thought would be interesting to people trying to tame their birds... I think hath posted it... basically what was suggested was whenever your budgie does something wrong you take him and put him down lower than what he currently is... it was using the theory that in the wild the higher up a budgie is the more up the chain of command he is... the young budgies get the lower perches. By lowering him you are letting him know that he has done something wrong.... I've never trained a budgie so I can't give personal experience, just passing on info I read... If I find the post I'll bump it for ya.
  7. Wonderful news, I am glad they saw fit to allow my pictures... stupid firewall... I wonder if I have a defamation case against the firewall company... must see my lawyer
  8. haha. so if Liv won't agree to send me the nice grey bird she bought back from Perth will you David?? You know us men need to support each other
  9. where did you get 32 from Chris?? I've used 4 online converters and they all came back with about 24... http://www.onlineconversion.com/temperature.htm - 23.8888889 http://www.convert-me.com/en/convert/temperature - 23.89 http://www.apples4theteacher.com/temperature-conversion.html - 23.89 http://chemistry.about.com/library/weekly/bltempconvert.htm - 23.89
  10. Absolutely gorgeous!
  11. Ahh.. I think If not all the melanin was removed would it be an Opaline Spangle pied Lacewing?? Is that even possible??
  12. Roses should be put on the noxious weed list... I ripped out 24 plants in my front yard... I thought I got the whole root system... well I know have about 30 plants... GRRRR
  13. okay. so all Dominant genes are not as dominant as normal (or wildtype)?? Is that right? But with all other 'dominant' genes they are both present? ie the individual gene will do as is expected irrespective of the other mutation?
  14. :thankyou: I bet it is. I wam thinking about making a cage while my birds are away and was going to make the floor a tilted bottom so that it was easy for everything to fall to the front... Thought about it and then put it in the to hard basket....
  15. which one LBB??? :thankyou:
  16. looking good Liv. I never realised show cages have a tilted roof... learn something new everyday on this forum :thankyou:
  17. :thankyou: magpies are nice. when I first heard people talking about magpies I was like, They arn't pigeons!!!! when I go to Malaysia in feb I'm hoping to find a place that sells fried pigeons. :hi:
  18. just wait till he grows up a bit :thankyou:
  19. nope it wouldn't... unless you drilled small holes in the top of it... that way you could determine just how much air came into the nestbox. :thankyou: Just a suggestion...
  20. I would do the gradual change over to the new seed. Changing seed can cause a moult also and with an already sick bird that could spell disaster... just be careful :thankyou:
  21. Good idea with the mesh, just make sure they don't get to cold... the other option if you find they are getting to cold is KAZ's clear perspex doors that she has put on some of her nest boxes in the past... I can't find the post but I'm sure it was Kaz that did it...
  22. :hi: Welcome to the thread. There is heaps of information around here that I am sure will help you prepare for the masses of birds headed your way :thankyou: I joined here earlier this year and had no birds, I now have 2, both of which are away in a spa (another members house) preparing to be mothers Once again welcome to the forums, I hope you stay and enjoy your learning experience here.
  23. too easy jimmy, Recessive means a bird can hide the gene while showing another, dominant means they show the gene if they have it and can not hide it For anyone wondering this is from Chrissy's Anyone's Guess thread. I figured I wouldn't railroad it so I started an off shoot... Liv, I get that but what I can never remember is what genes are Dominant and which ones are reccesive... And out of those genes, are any more reccesive/dominant than others? For instance if I breed an Spangle Cock with a Dom Pied Hen what would I get??? (I am guessing they are both Dominant genes, if not change the Dom pied to Reccesive pied.) Will the spangle overwrite the Dom pied gene or are they co-dominant? As they are not sex linked I am guessing that it doesn't mean all cocks will be Pied and all hens will be spangle or visa versa... I just don't know what the rules are... Is normal Dominant? Is it dominant over the other dominant genes?
