The Creation Of My New Breeding Room
Great Job Dave, I have never been much of a handy man... slowly but surely I am trying to build up more and more experience and hopefully in a years time I'll be ready for the big job of building my own aviary/birdroom in one... Really looking forward to the challenge. I am sure you will do a great job! The concrete looks great :thankyou:

Very Very Nervous.
I am very nervous tonight... Babababaaam... Babababaaaaam... (My idea of scarey music) Babababaaaam... Babababaaaam... going to my very first club meeting. I'm not a member but I'm going to go as I figure I should bite the bullet. This will be the club that I join when I move into my new place. I am hopefully going to meet some nice people that will be able to give me some pointers with my bird room and overall setup. As well as point out some good bird features along the way. Its a Rockbank Community Hall at 8pm... 52 minutes to go... Very Scared... I dunno why just am, The people at the Auction I went to (Eastern Districts) were great, but this is Melton & District Budgerigar Society and I don't think they have any members on here... ahh well, here goes nothing... :thankyou:

More Pics

How Can I Breed Black Budgie
I personally wouldn't like to limit myself to that kind of life, but hey whatever suits you. I teach my kids that they can do anything.. to tell them not to bother because there are other people that have tried that are really smart and they failed so it must be impossible is not going to assist them in achieving the goals that they set for themselves... People were killed for saying the earth was round, they were put in mental asylums for saying stuff that we know today, but in their time they were written off as Lunatics. Alexander the Great was told as a child that he was a descendant of the Gods by his parents. He was told that he could do anything be anything he chose... so he set off and conquered the then known world... You and I go, there's no way he was a descendant of the Gods, but that's what caused him to be so confident, and so bold as to take over the world... Can black birds be bred, you say there's no way you can get black birds, I say why not try, the worst you will do is have a stud full of nice looking dark grey budgies... at best, you'll be the first person to breed a black budgie and your name will go down in the history books... awesome.

How Can I Breed Black Budgie
I have to agree with DrNat. If you look at the wild budgerigar and the different showtypes we have today, it is amazing that they all came from wild budgerigars... I was reminded of this saying recently, "If you always do, what you've always done, you'll always get what you've always got." Its very true. Maybe the reason why we've never seen a black budgie is because the right combination of pairing hasn't taken place yet... DrNat has given her theory on how to get black birds, that may work, it may not... but you'll never know if you never try...

Yummy Yummy
Cabbage would be very similar to Lettuce as far as nutritional value is concerned, very little, mostly water so it can cause diarrhoea... as for beetroot I know they love that, there are so many pictures on this site with pics of birds looking like they massacred something... lol. There are a few lists on here of plants/fruit/and vegies that are safe... might want to give them a look over as the lists are fairly long

Home Made Breeding Cabinets
Daz's plans are great. You can use a few different woods... I've seen them built with MDF, Melamine, plywood... really its up to you. best of luck with the project.

Recessive Pied (c) X Lutino (h)
agree. It all depends on what the lutino is masking... do you know what the parents of the lutino were? If not you could be in for some surprises. Best of luck with this pairing and let us know what you end up with.

My Latest Project

"the Modern Bird"
I think its original topic was about budgies and whether or not the people that originally showed budgies would be happy with where the fancy has gone... but it got sidetracked with its side comment about beethoven...
