  1. ChookBreeder9 is from Melton. I keep promising him that I'm going to sow up but always chicken out at the last minute! Last Friday of the month coming up again...
  2. hahaha! See I knew I shouldn't post that, I went to post it and then said, nope they arn't, then I said, yes they are... then I posted! You fool JB!! P.S. Heres a link to the list of Ring colours if you're interested...
  3. Well, I just thought, maybe, if you liked, everyone that is a member of a club could tell us all about it! What's happening at the moment? Have you had any good talks with Members about the latest AI procedures, or maybe you've organised a Jimmy Barnes concert to try and raise some money for the club LOL. I dunno I'm just saying.... We're all sitting around saying lets promote the Hobby, so Let's do it! I'll go first, my house, according to the builder, is almost finished (I've heard that I don't know how many times over the length of this build) and I'll be living right bang smack in the middle of where Melton have their meetings and where Western Suburbs have theirs, so I'm looking forward to watching both clubs try and buy me! hahahaha!! Not likely!
  4. You're right, I didn't notice the fallow till you mentioned it! Hope you had the Birdroom door closed
  5. Awww... We'll have to change your nick to 'Mother Duck' with all this hand rearing! Do you have quails on the bottom of your aviary as well or just Kens aviary?
  6. And I wanna say Fallows, but I'd have to check that so don't quote me...
  7. Awww baby quails!!! Quails rock!! They're the second best bird to keep I reckon!
  8. Hahaha thanks Kaz, I do try. I often do think I post a bit to much though... It's just to hard not too

Ahhhh see and I only ever 'buy now' on eBay, I think I've only used it 3 times, once to buy a breeding cabinet...
  10. Used to have them as a kid but more recently had a couple but they passed away and am waiting to move house, which has taken a lot longer than planned, so that I can get right into the swing of breeding. I don't give out advice if I'm not sure of the answer, but you are right nothing beats personal experience when it comes to knowing stuff. Most of what I have learnt is from books or online. But don't worry, my most popular section according to my Stats is 'Off Topic Chatter'
  11. I must admit I love the Auctions, don't get me wrong, I'm a bit miffed at the prices some people pay but hey, it's their money not mine. I think it's more like not keeping up with the times that is killing it... When's the Budgerigar program going to come out with an iPhone app version or the like? I just wish I was a Computer Programmer, then I could buy a Clint Ault (bad spelling I think) bird with the money I made from royalties... People actually have virtual fish tanks where they breed fish and you can see what you'd come out with... Not my cup of tea, but with the amount that is known with budgie genetics you could have a virtual aviary. It's not everyones cup of tea but I guarantee some kids will get on it and become fascinated with budgies and want to join clubs... Just my 2 cents worth...
  12. Would be good to know the diet... How long has it been runny? Has the food you've been feeding her changed recently?
  13. People who show budgies in Australia, and other countries) are required to put a ring on the birds leg soon after it is born to signify what year the bird was born, who the breeder was and what number chick the chick is... Each year the colour changes. 2. Can't rememberto be honest, if you check out the FAQ section and search for sex linked I'm sure there are plenty of info on them... 3. It really depends on your birds, some can only do one and then need a break, I've heard of some peoples birds doing 3 rounds... If you observe your birds close enough they'll tell you when they need a break. 4. Moults can be caused by a few things, stress and sickness, and then there are normal moults... 5. Each breeder has an opinion on this, from what I can gather, most breeders say keep the together. Some will split juviniles and adults rather than based on Gender. Hope I helped, I'm sure others with more wisdom than I will come and fix my mistakes soon
  14. Where were you planning on putting the breeding cabinet/cage? If you're breeding at that time you need to think about weather and how hot the cage and nestbox will get...
  15. Sorry to hear about the last 2 eggs... Doesn't sound like she was a very nice mum. Hope the fostered chicks turn out well
  16. Sorry to hear about all the babies...

Thats a great aviary, for $70 you can't go wrong!! 8 Days left to go, lets hope no one else see's it...
  18. I've got to be honest, I have no clue what a Dom Pied is meant to look like, every time someone shows a picture of a Pied I'm like 'oh its a dom pied.' and then everyone says its a rec pied. The I see another one and say, 'oh its a rec pied.' And everyone says its a dom pied. Now I'm looking at this bird and the second I saw it I thought, Oh its a Dom Pied Spangle... so... Sunnie... sorry but its a Rec Pied Opaline!! No but in all seriousness... I think I can see what I think are Dom Pied markings on its front...
  19. You know what they say, "Slow and Steady wins the race." Those chocks are adorable. Reason for Edit: I didn't know I was a Kiwi... I meant those 'Chicks' are adorable not 'Chocks'.
  20. You Perth People are up way to late for me to keep up with the posts... Kaz would you transfer the nestbox to a cage now or add more nest box's to the aviary... I'm just thinking, transferring the chicks and parents to a cage at this stage would be very stressful, I know colony breeding isn't the best option but I'm trying to think outside the square here... Actually what might be the best option is transferring the other hen and cock into a holding cage, that would be the least disruptive and they wouldn't be tempted to breed without the nestboxs... Thats what I'd do if you are sure you want to breed Pride. Transfer the non breeding pair into a holding cage when you get one, and I wouldnt connect a nestbox to it yet.
  21. Hahaha! You're allowed to be blunt GB, thats the way you are. Nothing wrong with that. I just don't want pride running away from the one place that can help her should, and lets face it something always does, something go wrong. I'm yet to find an instance were breeding birds at some point was perfect and everything went the way it should. It may be little, or it may be big, but something always happens that you don't expect. Thats where this forum is at its best.
  22. In order to answer that I'd need to know the answer to these questions: How long have you kept budgies? How long have you wanted to breed budgies? What will you do if the hen does not feed her chicks? If you are under 18, do your parents support you breeding budgies? Do you have any money saved up for an emergency vet visit? Why do you want to breed budgies? Then I'd want to see pictures of your budgies, and the aviary that they are in. I'd like to know how old they are, you said you've had he hens for 2 years, How old were they when you got them? Do they have rings on their legs? Same with the cocks, do they have rings? The only person who can really and truly answer the question of wether or not you should throw the eggs out is you. We can all have opinions, but ultimately its all in your hands. If you think you know enough to breed them then we arn't going to stop you (we don't have the power too, even if some wanted too) You've got to figure out wether or not you're ready. Your birds will be ready when you are ready. There are a million questions I could ask but ultimately the choice is yours as to what you do...
  23. And you have 4 birds right? 2 male 2 female? Most people would suggest, if your sure you want to colony breed, that you put in at least an extra 2 at the same height... Just saves heartache when both hens want the same nest box...
