  1. Wow! That is a lot of plucking!!! Were those photo's taken today or just when the Cocks were removed? Poor things. Hope things keep improving for them...
  2. Yeah, I've just got to find a hundred pairs or so that I know the parentage of over say 3 generations, some blue, some green/blue, some blue from a green/ blue x green/blue pairing, then breed a hundred babies out of each pairing and record that. Then we will know... So to make sure that I am getting the facts right, for the first blue to be bred someone needed to pair a green/blue and a green/blue, right? but seeings that there had never been a blue before and you only pass down 1 gene from each parent, wouldn't the probability of a blue bird ever being born be extremely close to 0???
  3. Is it just me or does the top picture show the nestbox's with 2 holes and the bottom pictures only show one? Personally, I would remove the toys that are in the breeding cage and the swings. I'd just have the 2 perches going from front to back like you have, but probably a little closer together...
  4. But you did me... Not sure if thats a compliment or an insult, I'll choose the former
  5. So the grand parents play no role in percentages? You are always hearing about birds throwing out surprises because the parents were masking/split for something, so I'm wondering how much the grandparents play a part. I get that if Max is split for blue and Yoko is blue then you have a 50% chance of blue chicks. I'm just wondering if by adding in any extra factors you can change that percentage. Have studies been done to see if Grand parents/great grand parents impact on the percentages at all? Its my hypothesis that they do impact on the percentages, even if it is a small impact. I think that if I bred 100 chicks from Family 1 and bred 100 chicks from Family 2, Family 1 would have more blue chicks than family 2...
  6. okay so I'm checking out the different programs you can use to keep track of our birds, well okay I was checking out Birdrec and The Budgerigar Program, and that got me thinking about breeding expectations and how much we really know... So I've got two family tree's, I've kept them to 2 generations for simplicity but I think you'll get the idea: Family 1 Family 2 My question is: Is Family 1 more likely to produce Blue babies than Family 2? And if so by what percent.
  7. Great photo's Nubbly
  8. Hahaha Loved this thread, I just went thru (or is that through) it and read the whole thing. I'm terrible with grammar. I found myself reading this thread going, I do that, and that... AND that! I blame the education department. Bt as I tell my sister in law who got her PHD in English, and has pet hates like you guys, Language is a living organism always changing... I'm just not sure if this is James's thread or James' ... And even though I've seen some people do it, I know it's not Jame's
  9. I just figured the flash hit it better...
  10. How can you tell from that photo? If I was going to guess which one it would be the top (as in top of the picture) middle egg, but I have no idea why I think that one... it looks slightly, ever so slightly, lighter than the others...

Welcome to the forum! Hope you enjoy the site! Look forward to seeing pictures of your birds.
  13. Non Pictorial?? Have you read the Terms and Conditions? It virtually says you can be hung drawn and quartered for non pictorial updates!!! Well, maybe not exactly those words, but I'm sure they meant to put it in... Interesting observation about the cocks, I believe Dean_NZ said he thinks the cocks tend to do more harm than good when they are in the nestbox... would be interesting to find out if anyont has kept records for that sort of thing. I'm pretty sure it was Dean but it might've been someone else...

great Variety! They look fantastic Congratulations!
  15. Glad to hear that all has turned out okay with the chicks.
  16. I would say that is talking about when you are trying to produce show birds... You want to pair birds up that will compliment each other and not birds that have the same faults...
  17. Agree with Dean, way to young to be out of the nestbox... Watch mum closely... Is it possible to get a closeup photo of the wounds? Maybe use your macro settings on the camera... Is it red as in bloodied or more like it's bruised??
  18. Other than the fact that they are always on hole 9 at Sunshine Golf Course, I know nothing about them... sorry can't help, maybe do a google search and see what comes up...
  19. Your birds are looking great jlee.
  20. Only much of the present company, not all??? hahaha! Just stirring I know, I know, you were talking about me!!
  21. I'd be thinking about taking her to a vet.. We can't really diagnose her without seeing pictures of the poo or the budgie... Budgies need a varied diet though, do a search for safe foods and try and give her a good mix of vegetables as well as a good quality seed.
  22. You should be able to get breeding boxes from the same place you get your cabinets or cage from... or eBay, I haven't looked recently but sometimes they post them up... Thanks KAZ and GB
  23. Hahaha! Yes the BCV site does need a facelift. Thanks PT, where are you meeting now? Still at Rockbank?
  24. I think you're spot on there PT. Big houses with big TV's on small blocks is the way of the future I'm afraid...
