  1. Hahahaha :bluebudgie: I had no idea what LMAO was, I thought you were swearing at me or something, so I had to google it! Feel free to babble way, I do it enough :wine The hulled oats seem to be a winner, he loves the things. In a months time my post will be "how can I get my budgie to lose weight!"
  2. Congratulations, how exciting for you :bluebudgie:
  3. That is terrible, I am so sorry to hear that I hope they are all okay, keep us updated.
  4. I found this list of SA avian vets, I am not sure if any of them work Sundays though http://www.birdmunchies.com.au/associations/vets/sa.htm Good luck :budgiedance:
  5. Yes a very big relief I just love him, he is my handsome little guy , I think my boyfriend is getting jealous
  6. Yes it is, I gave him a pinky/red calcium and iodine perch and it has stained all of his face Good to hear He has a couple of really bright yellow feathers coming through on his cheeks (if budgies have cheeks!) so I think he may be starting his moult - or very close to it
  7. Excellent, I will keep them in his seed then. Thanks
  8. That is sooo good to hear , thank you Kaz . I was so worried about the little guy. I went down to the Fodder store this morning and bought him some hulled oats - are they still okay to mix through his seed?
  9. Sorry pics took a while, I lost the camera cable again :hap: Here are a couple of pics, if you need something better let me know. This one was taken a few weeks ago when he was outside and a little fluffed upOops, might help to copy the right link! Yep, I bought some digital scales this morning that measure 1 gram to 5 kg's in 1 gram increments. Very exciting, my cooking might taste a bit better now that I can actually measure my ingredients!
  10. Hello I kind of cut in on on Neat's topic yesterday (sorry :hap: ). My about four month old budgie has quite a sharp breast bone - it doesn't stick out, but when I feel it, it is very sharp. So, today I bought some scales and he weighs 34 grams. Is this about right for this age - or is he underweight? Thank you
  11. Well, finally home and did a check of his breast bone (Coco was not a happy chappy) and it is still as sharp as I remember . I have found a fodder store that sells hulled oats so I will pick some up tomorrow and add to his seed mix, along with a set of kitchen scales to weigh him. For a about 4 month old budgie, how much should he weigh? He is extremely active, always jumping around and playing with toys too.
  12. I think you have it all perfect Tam...maybe add some oats to his seed mix to fatten him up a little ? That's a good idea thanks Kaz :hap: - silly question - oats in what kind of form? eg. rolled oats
  13. Just check him over. has he been wormed ? If not he needs it. Also take a good look at the food he is or isnt eating and maybe time for a rethink of his diet. Yes he has been wormed :hap: He has trill budgie mix and eucalyptus leaves during the day and at night I give him some veggies eg carrott, bok choy, peas and corn or some birdy bread or rice and veggie mix (I haven't used egg food in a while because he never used to eat it, maybe worth trying again?) He is starting to eat more of the veg, not as much as I would like though, so I have been using (three days a week) in his water the Vetafarm liquid vitamins. I check his bowl night when I get home to make sure that there are empty husks, and there always are. Is there anything that I should be giving/doing? I will let you know how I get on tonight with his check up.
  14. You should feel a padding of meat over his breastbone and no sharp edges. You should also check his bottom. Thanks Kaz - I will have a feel. His bottom is clean, I always check it when he is hanging off his toys. He is definetely eating too. I am so worried now
  15. No healthy budgie regardless of age should have a sharp breastbone. If it also has a poopy bottom it is sick. If it just has the sharp breastbone it is underweight and something is causing a problem for the weightloss . Needs looking at by a bird vet. Oh no! When I get home from work I will have a good feel of it - haven't done that for a while. What should I be able to feel, just a bump, or a defined bone?
  16. Sorry to butt in on your topic , but what about a baby's breat bone (by baby I mean about 4 months old? Coco's is quite sharp when i run my finger over it - should it not be ???

Thanks Tam When you are ready, if you let me know what colour or type you are interested in, i can try and breed one for you I will probably only be breeding one pair at a time so i will try for your chosen colours first in Spring Wow, really? That is so nice of you ! It will probably take me about seven months to decide on a colour anyway ! Thank you Liv

They also have the diy perch hardware kits, if you need to make any for Scooter. I am sending my boyfriend up our gum tree tomorrow to find me a nice branch to make mine
  22. Cool, I will give it a shot then this weekend .

Latte is so cute They are going to be so happy together in their (very nice) new cage! I have just ordered a bunch of new toys and stuff from http://www.parrotrescuecentre.com they are pretty good prices and I think that the profits go to looking after their birds, only safe materials and only charge a postage fee of like $8 for no matter how much you buy. Bea put me on to them. They even have a little happy house for budgies, which is like a fury hanging hut, so cute. My boyfriend put me on a spending ban after ordering from their website, so be careful!
  25. Thank you Elly , great advice. I will start doing that from now on.
