Millet Thief!
Well, last night I was really tired after work and I mustn't have paid attention when I covered Coco's cage over, and when I took the cover off this morning. Evidence i found in the bottom of his cage when I got home from work would suggest that somebody left a two inch piece of millet in it . Evidence being a stripped piece of millet and the newspaper being covered in husks! I was trying to cut down his millet intake too the past couple of weeks (I think that I have been giving him a little too much and I know that it is fattening ) and then I go and leave a piece in there He must have had a very enjoyable day :hap: Sure didn't waste any time. I remember once upon a time (well... a few months ago) when I began training him I could leave a piece in there for a week and he wouldn't be brave enough to go near it

Budgie Play Gyms
Hehehe good work I am really shocked that they would use something toxic. They seem to be quite a big bird product manufacturer. They even advertise on the box that it has a copper bell, like it is a key feature of the play gym :hap:

Budgie Play Gyms
The box says Copper I will just take it off to be safe

Budgie Play Gyms
That is what I thought, I can't belive that they would be so silly I will replace it when I receive it. It makes me a little worried now. If they were dumb enough to use a copper bell what else could be wrong with it

Budgie Play Gyms
Thanks for all of the help. I went to big w tonight, but they were too big for what I was after. I am thinking of going with the Pen-Plax one. Not bad, it gets sent from Brisbane, and inc postage is only $25. Does anybody know whether Copper is safe for birds ? It has a copper bell.

Budgie Play Gyms
Hello I am looking at buying a playgym but am having a bit of trouble chosing one that is going to be safe. Penn Plax (a US brand I think) have one but it doesn't say anywhere on the net or on the box whether non-toxic dyes are used. It also comes with a copper bell, and I don't know whether copper is safe. I know that I should probably not be so lazy and build one myself.... Do any members know of any playgyms that are safe and able to be shipped to Oz? I am only after one about 30cm square. Any help would be much appreciated

Budgie Won't Bond
He is very cute I have had bonding problems with my budgie too, but don't give up on him because he will come around in his own time. All you can do is follow members' great advice, and as Elly says, have him with you as much as possible. Good luck

Going On Holidays
Thanks for the good ideas Sailorwolf Good point Elly. I gave him a seedbell about three days ago to test them out and it is just about gone! I tried them when I first got Coco and I threw it away because he didn't touch it. I guess now maybe he is a little more adventurous

Breaky Time
I am sooo jealous :glare: Coco just plays "how far can we throw the veggies"

Going On Holidays
Thank you, that is a good idea about leaving loo seats down etc. I will do that before I leave in case he gets a little spiteful for me leaving him and tries to get out! Thanks for the advice

Going On Holidays
I understand what you mean Neat, but I will have somebody come every second day (at least) to change water and seed (plus I have a couple of seed bells to use). Plus, at the end of the day, my bf and I both work full time hours, so something going wrong could just as easily happen while we are at work (as awful as it is to think about).

Going On Holidays
I will do that then :budgiedance: . Thanks for the advice. It is a tricky situation, I don't want to cause more stress to him by taking him to somebody's house, but on the other hand, I don't want anything to happen to him by leaving him at home. This sounds like a nice compromise though

Going On Holidays
We are staying with a friend (in his 1bdrm apartment) in hobart, so it is a nice budget holiday! I am told it is very cold, so I should bring some thermals. I will post some pics when I get back I agree with Elly If somebody was to come every second day to refill the seed dishes, would that that change your views? Is the food issue the main concern?

Going On Holidays
That is good to hear thank you Thanks for the offer to budgie sit, I don't think he would want to come home with me if he had other little budgies to talk to at your place (and you would have to check my pockets for bird-napping too) I will keep that in mind. I just don't want to scare him too much with the change of scenery and the drive over. I know I am probably being too cautious....

Going On Holidays
The bf and I have decided to take a short holiday at the end of July to Tasmania We are leaving lunchtime Thursday and returning lunchtime the following Tuesday, so it will be four full days. I am thinking of leaving Coco at home alone, i can get somebody to change food and water every second day ( I have lots of bowls that I can use so he doesn't run out of seed). I have a radio that I always leave on for him as well. How do people feel about leaving them alone for this length of time (particularly not being able to cover his cage over at night)? I could leave him with somebody, but then I run the risk of him being left in a draft; in front of a heater; them using teflon cookware etc....plus he is quite a scardy cat and has only just started to bond with me, and I would hate to lose the 5 1/2 months work. Thanks in advance for any advice

Mum Bought Us A New Toy!
Hi Neat, yes I got it at Big W. They are priced at about $24.95 - it is bigger than I thought. I had a smaller one years ago which would probably suit budgies better as the perches are quite thick on this one. Hi Tam, not sure of the brand but they have them at Big W. The measurements are 50cm x 38cm. There is a smaller one you can get as well. This size is good though as there's plenty of room for all my budgies!! Thank you for that. I was in there yesterday and didn't even think to look for budgie toys and stuff
