  1. I would say about 4 weeks.
  2. Hello I am in the process of taming a now about 14 week old male budige (pet store bought). I have been using the taming budgie FAQ's page. At the moment he will eat millet spray from my fingers, and has been doing this for quite a while. But I am finding it difficult to move to the stage where he will sit on my finger. He doesn’t really want anything to do with my hand if I don’t have any millet, and even when I do, he still runs away and gets a bit freaked out if I move my finger closer to him. It could well be that I need to be more patient ?? But does anybody have any taming tips that they can share? Thanks, Tam
  3. The birdy bread receipes sound great I only have one baby budgie, and it would take him donkeys to get through a loaf, is it suitable for freezing?

I am so glad to here the gorgeous guy is doing well :rip: I am sure that he would love a little friend to share his to be new home with
  5. Do you think if you bring the seriousness of it to the attention of the storeperson/hopefully they would take the bird to a vet - wouldn't it just be a tax deduction for a pet store anyway? And maybe tell a few white lies, that the babies will become infected within a couple of weeks if they don't seek treatment (which they may well, but may not show signs before they are purchased). All they will care about is losing a profit of the babies! Just a thought anyway
  6. This is so terrible How does the RSPCA come in to play in a situation like this? Do they have any jurisdiction with pet stores? I would be tempted to call them.

I think that he was a yellow face at one stage, but between the carrots and his pinky/red calcium perch he always seems to be a funny colour , but he seems happy enough.! My mum came around the other day and commented on how cute his little peach coloured face is and how she hasn't seen that before on a budgie
  8. I also feed Coco Trill and thought that I would take a look at mine. I did find lots of Sorghum in the 2kg pack which I bought when I first got Coco and am still using. But the other week I bought a smaller 1kg pack and sorghum wasn't listed on the ingredients list, along with wheat . Somebody told me on this forum that the smaller packs are a bit clearer, but I didn't realise that they added more fillers in the larger packs, especially being the same brand, and we are only talking a kilo difference between the sizes. I haven't started using the small pack yet, but it will be interesting to see if they still sneak in the Sorghum. I don't think that I will be going back to the larger pack (well not while I only have one little birdy to feed)

Yay, so I have myself a boy, how exciting (not that I would be unhappy with a girl or anything) :budgiedance: Thanks everybody for taking a look at the pics

Thanks Feathers, it was very bright outside when I was taking the pics, so it was washing the colour out a fair bit too which didn't really help! This one shows the colour a little better on the right hand side of his cere, the left hand side looks a little lighter where the light is hitting it. I have always secretly been hoping for a boy though :glare:
  12. Thanks, yeah maybe it is better to safe then sorry. I have only got canola oil at the moment, is that okay to use or am I better off getting something else? His face is always orange, I think his feathers are permanently stained!

Hello, Happy Easter! I hope everybody has been eating lots of chocolate today :glare: Well Coco is now about 14 weeks (hasn't had first moult yet, so I think I bought him younger than I originally thought). Last time I asked about gender I had a few mixed answers, so I thought I would try again now he/she is a bit older. This is my fav picture so I just have to sneak it in Thanks for your help
  14. Happy Easter everybody :glare: A couple of days ago I noticed that where Coco's cere meets the beak it is looking a bit crusty. There is also a long scratch kind of thing running through (but I am not sure if Coco just did that on his bark perch). Does this look like the beginning of scaly face? Hope the picture works, I am terrible at this! The colour of his cere is quite washed out, I am posting a new topic in budgie pics as I am still unsure of gender, last time I had some mixed opinions. Thank you, Tam

hahaha!! i have fed that stuff to my ( human) babies.... they hated it. But yes its low is salt with not addatives etc I just got home from food shopping tonight and where I found a parsnip, sweet potato and carrot with no added flavours or anything. I will give that a shot this weekend, but it may well end up being my lunch not Coco's
  19. This is great , I am trying to tame a baby at the moment. She doesn't want a bar of me unless I have millett.

Ahhh... Human baby food (there is budgie baby foods too hehe) Thats a really good idea... I dont know anything about it so I look forward to others responses Yeah, I tried the sweet potato and sweet corn the other day mixed with some seed, Coco wasn't too keen, but she never is at first (I must admit, I tried a bit without the seeds and it was quite nice ). They don't contain added preservatives and yucky stuff so I thought it might be a good idea for days when time is too short to be creative.

Sorry Liv , I probably didn't make that very clear, it is human baby food. I just wasn't sure whether being such a small amount and just flavour it would be harmfull. As for potato, I know that raw is bad, but how do people feel about cooked, not on its own, but say a small amount mixed with veggies?

Hi Guys I went to buy some veggie baby food the other day for a quick healthy meal for Coco on nights when I am home late from study. Most of them I found had 'natural onion flavour' in the ingredients list (quite far down the list too). Do you think that this would be okay, or something that I should avoid?? Thank you
  23. Finally the awful messy tree has been of use to me
  24. Good to hear . I would hate to have to take it off her! She is chewing it, rubbing her face and beak on it, just loving it!
  25. Hi, I have just put in a natural gum tree branch into Coco's cage which I found in my garden. Coco instantly jumped onto it and has started to tear off the bark and chew it up. Is this okay? I gave it a wash with warm water - is this enough cleaning?
