  1. so you left him in the avary with the other birds? my avary is 2.4m square with 10 birds in there, so he has plenty of room to keep to himself if i put him back
  2. do i have to get the iodine from a chemist not pet shop, with his wing because it is not broken just strained the vet said i could strap it or leave it to mend on its own, what would you recommended is the best thing to do, i do not have a avian vet in my area so i just went to a vet who has treat birds so i am not sure if he gave me the right advice.he is in the house and he has a hen in the aviary he was close too and i do not wanting him getting depressed because he is missing the other birds. yesterday he was chirping and calling out but today he just sits quietly.
  3. The vet says he wing is strained not broken and i have to strap his wings together to keep it still for 2 weeks so it will mend.Jack is not going to like that. The lumps are fatty cysts and he has 2 of them. The vet said they are not too big at the moment but i have to keep a eye on them and if they grow he will have surgery to remove them. Has anyone had cysts in there birds and know anything about them, like what causes them and do they grow quickly and if there is anything i can give him to help him. the vet did not tell me much at all.
  4. jack became lethargic last night so i am off to the vets this morning, i hope he has some answer for me because he belongs to my sisters children and they could not keep him so i am looking after him and they will be so upset if he dies on me.
  5. i am glad he is a male because i can pick him up and examine him and he does not bite me. he has been in the aviary for 2 years now and i have rarely pick him up. his lump does not feel really hard like a stone and i can touch him and he does not seem to be in any pain. he keeps eating all the time and i am worried he might make himself worse.
  6. i took a couple of photos and when i examined him the enlargment is mainly soft with a small hard lump at the base of his crop.he is not vomiting at all. no feather loss and can feel no lumps or breaks in his wings.i could not get a appointment till tomorrow morning at the vets so i am just wondering how do i treat him today while i am waiting. do i still give him seed.
  7. i went to the aviary last night and found a Jack on the bottom of the aviary. it looks like he has hurt his wing but he also has a very full crop. i rang up the vet but cannot get a appointment till tomorrow morning. i have brought he inside to keep him warm but he is still eating and drinking and poos are normal, bottom clean. what i are wondering because he looks bloated and crop is very full should i take his seed away from him.could the injured wing be causing his body not to digest his food.
  8. that is sad to hear he did not make it.
  9. you breed such beautiful babies, it is a shame you are on the opposite side of australia to me.
  10. he is a beautiful bird, i bought one the same type last month but he is only 4 months old and smaller than yours. it would be nice if mine turned out as nice as yours looks.
  11. wow, that is a amazing story, hope the baby makes it.

about 4 months ago one of my budgies in the aviary lost his flight feathers on one wing, all his other feathers were fine so i think he just had an accident. His feathers are growing back now and he is still healthy.

thanks for that lone budgie. i have done colony breeding for last 3 years and now i am changing to cabinets so i am trying to understand what budgies to pair together to get nice colours.

the flash in the camera made the tail look lighter than it is,but her tail seems to be dark green.when i bought her i thought she was a grey green and i was going to pair her with my grey spangle. would they still be a good pair. the other males i own are sky blue spangle, blue split recessive pied, blue/white recessive pied.what do people recommended would be a good type to pair her with. i am going to a budgie show next sunday and looking for more birds.
  15. i had a look at trading post and he is adorable.
  16. congrats, he sounds like a cutie.
  17. it is a hard decision to make but i believe you will make the decision that seems right for you and Blinkie. i have my 2 house budgies wings clipped because i have a open plan house with cathredral ceilings and after a couple of accidents i decided to keep my birds safe i needed to clip their wings. i had one incident of one of my budgies fallen behind my fridge and i was lucky my husband was home from work to move the fridge so we could reach him. sometimes one of my did not want to go back to his cage and would sit up on our rafters and i would have to go and get the ladder to get him down but it would freak him out and i found he was getting scared of me and this big ladder so i got their wings clipped and i do not regret it.They are happy and i feel like i can keep them safer this way.

i had a closer look at Milly, i did not want to stress her out when i got her home so i had not pick her up. she has settle down well so i pick her up and her tail is navy blue and patches seem to be blue to me so i would that mean she is a olive. Her is a photo of her head and tail, kaz.

i thought the same, that is why i could not leave the pet shop without her.

i will try to get some more photos of her face and tail later today, my husband has gone to the beach to go four wheel driving and took the camera.i meant patches not spots, her patches are smaller then what my other birds have.

i find it hard to work out the colour of her check spots because they are so small.will they get bigger as she gets older. i went and look at her tail and it seems to be a dark green colour with the end of the tail black. her markings have got me confused.

thanks kaz for the age, i find it hard to work out the age, all i know that is they have bars on their head then they are younger than 5/6 months. i had a close look at her tail and it looks more navy blue . she is quarintened,i have 9 in the aviary they i am not going to risk getting sick. I called her Milly because i bought her to breed with Billie who is a grey spangle. i know she is too young yet but would they make a good pair and what would the outcomes be? she has settle in well, she can hear the birds in the aviary and has been calling out to them.

i went to the pet shop this morning to look at breeding cabinets and came home with a new baby budgie. Her name is Milly and i am fairly certain she is a girl and only about 3 months old. i think she is a olive normal, if i am wrong about the type can some one correct me.My husband was not quite happy, he said i am only supposed to be buying pieds at the moment but i could not resist her.
