Light Bulbs ?
My son has the heat globes in his reptile enclosure and when i run out of normal bulbs i will start using the heat globes. The only problem is that they cost about $15 to buy. You can buy them with a bayonet fitting or screw in fitting. We use the red ones but like Av said you can get them blue or black as well. If you get the ones that are just Heat Glo they do not have any UV in them. We have a 50watt one in the reptile enclosure and it does produce alot of heat, it is connected to a thermostat which is set at 34c so for a hospital cage i would get a low wattage heat globe. Here is a picture of what the heat globes look like.

Infertile Eggs
Yesterday she laid another egg and i also found one on the floor of my avairy so i decided to put it in her nestbox instead of tossing it. It would have been only sitting on the floor of the aviary for a couple of hours before i saw it so would it still be okay if it is fertile?

Infertile Eggs
I am going to use this method with all my budgies. I tried putting the hen into the cabinets with nestbox and then a couple of days later introduce the male but a couple of hens took to the nestboxs and were not interested in the males.

Eating Upside Down
It is a weird way to eat but it must be comfortable for her or she would not do it. It is a cute picture.

Lost My Male
The hens were looking a grey colour so i candled them and they have died in the shell before they had finished developing. They were fertile when i candled them at 6 days. What could cause this to happen? I am disappointed that it all went wrong with this pair. I lost the male and now i lost the chance to get a baby from him.

Infertile Eggs
I followed Kaz,s advice and my hen has her nestbox and male with her now. He has been feeding her and going in the nestbox with her so she has bonded with him. On sunday she laid her first egg and she has a eggbum tonight so hopefully another egg tomorrow. I have my fingers crossed that this time they are fertile.

Ratsac, Rat Poison
I have had mice in my breeding room and i have bought baits to use, because the traps are not working. I have put the baits in Chinese plastic takeaway containers with the lids on but cut a small hole in the side so the mice can get into the containers and eat the bait but not move it through the breeding room.

My New Budgies Are Improving.
Here is some photos of them. I know that do not look in the best condition but hopefully by the end of quarantine they will look heaps better. Male and female grey normals, Sleepy and Bashful. Grumpy a grey normal, i am not sure if it is a hen out of breeding condition or a male with scaly face. Any ideas? Happy, male cinnamonwing. Sleepy and Dopey, male dom pieds. Doc,is the one on the end of the perch on the right, i am not sure what sex or type. Doc,s wing markings are dom pied but it has no iris rings and has a orange beak which means recessive pied. A close up of Doc, because of the scaly face i am not sure of the sex, any ideas?

My New Budgies Are Improving.
On Saturday i bought 7 budgies from a breeder who due to health reasons had not been able to care for them properly. 5 of them had scaly face, 3 had it that bad i could not tell if they were male or female. Yesterday the scaly face started to improve and i can see blue ceres on 2 of the pieds. Another pieds scaly face was that bad that the cere was crusty and very raise. Its cere is sitting flat now but still not sure of its sex yet because of the scaly face. I am really happy i can finally see progress being made with them. I still need to get some weight onto them but that takes time.

Buying A Budgie That Is Moulting
I use this method too. While my birds are on medication, I remove all drinking water overnight (everynight) and when you provide the drinking water with medications in it in the morning, they drink it straight up. I do this too. Its much more effective. and you get to see them take a drink too which is comforting This sounds like a great idea, i will start doing it.

Buying A Budgie That Is Moulting
Thanks Liv, it is a sunny here at the moment so i have moved their cages out in the sun, will that effect the medicated water.

Buying A Budgie That Is Moulting
Avicycline (or any other water medication) is noneffective when not the only source of water . Vegies and plant material are too moist and the birds can avoid the medication by getting their moisture from the food. I will remove the vegies and branches but how else could i give them extra vitamins that they would get from the vegies while they are in quarintine.

Buying A Budgie That Is Moulting
If the scaley face isn't too severe they will probably come out of the ivermectin treatment quite healthy. I would also think of doing meds for internal parisites while in quarantine. If the breeder didn't medicate for things he could see he probably didn't medicate for the ones he couldn't! I have added Avicycline to their water and also gave them fresh vegies and bottle brush branches this morning.

Buying A Budgie That Is Moulting
Thanks for everyones opinions, last night i ended up looking at a breeders budgies who is having to sell due to health issues and has not been able to look after them. So instead of buying budgies that are moulting i ended up with 7 budgies with scaly face. I know people will think i made a mistake but i felt sorry for the budgies. The breeder said i could have them for $5 each so i brought them all home. They are all perching fine in the cages and look healthy apart from the scaly face. They got treated with Ivermectin last night.

Buying A Budgie That Is Moulting
I went to a pet shop today looking for some more budgies and i noticed that most of them are starting to moult. They looked healthy just moulting. Is it a good idea to buy a budgie while they are moulting or better to wait till they have finished? I did walk out with no budgies much to my hubby's surprise when he said i was allowed to buy some.

Lost My Male
Sorry i meant the squares are 1.2cms , i have found a couple of mice with their heads stuck in the squares so i thought they could not get through them.

My Poor Puppy, Kacey
Kacey had a operation last friday to get desexed and get a hernia removed but he started trying to pull his stitches out so the vet recommended putting a pot on his head and tie it to his collar. Kacey is not happy about having to walk around with a pot on his head. i got him a purple one so it would at least look a little bit pretty.

Lost My Male
The holes in the wire are only 1.2mm, i thought mice could not get through that size. I am not sure if it was mice now because she had 4 eggs early this morning and i have just gone to feed them and she has 2 eggs now. Mice do not usually come around in the day so maybe the new male is eating them. i do not think my idea has work, i think i will remove the male and hope she will be okay by herself.

Lost My Male
I am just about to give up on trying to breed, i am going from one disaster to another one. Last night a mouse got into the breeding cabinet and ate one of the eggs and cracked the shell of 2 others. The membranes were not broken on the eggs so i have put water based wood glue on the cracks and i hope they will be okay. i thought i had got rid of my mouse problem but it looks like they are still getting in.
