  1. They are just starting to show some blue feathers on their backs and little on their stomachs. Number 2 bub has a couple of cinnamon feathers on her wings but the youngest wings are all white.
  2. Decided to take some new photos of the chicks, they are changing. The eldest has been sticking her head out of the nestbox, will not be long before she is out. The eldest, 4 weeks old. Number 2, 3 weeks old. The youngest, nearly 3 weeks old.

This morning i found Jack dead in the aviary, he was 10 years old but had a hard life. He was a very special budgie to me because he was my budgie that got attacked by a hen so only had half a beak. He had feather cysts and lost some flight feathers and they never grew back. He had a young hen who looked after him and feed him and she is missing him as much as i am. He has always been a survivor so i thought he would go on for longer.
  4. Finally have another pair with a egg, the hen is a white df spangle and the cock is a skyblue opaline spangle.
  5. Does anyone else have any ideas of the sex of my chicks or have Dave and I guessed correctly?
  6. Thanks Dave for explaining it to GB for me, Dopey is a male dominant pied that i was given and was unsure of age so i thought i would give him a try and he has ended up being a great father.
  7. Don't feel guilty, it was not just some of yours not interested in breeding but some of mine as well.
  8. I have returned the another pairs to the aviary and put in new pairs, hope i have better luck with these pairs.
  9. Babies are growing very fast, i have been trying to work out the sex of them. I think i have 2 females and one male. The eldest, which i am guessing hen. Number 2 bub, i think another hen. She was born with plum eyes. Youngest, i think male.
  10. I will have to get Dave to send me a photo of himself and i will put it in the breeding cabinets for them. Dave can be a pin-up boy for my budgies.
  11. Yep, the males and females spend most of the day sitting in the nestbox but are not laying any eggs. Romeo jr is not having any luck and i thought he would been a good breeder.
  12. I ended up with 3 eggs hatching from one pair and the other pairs have not been breeding so i have changed some and hope for some success. These 3 babies come from the spangle and dom pied.
  13. How would i get cinnamon from a spangle and dom pied? Dad is carrying cinnamon in a split form and the chick will be a female :rip: Thanks Kaz, for explaining it to me. I was hoping to get a pied baby but cinnamon is just as nice.

It was amazing to hear. The chick hatched last night and is doing well.
  16. I am really confused because i have 3 babies in a nest but one has plum eyes. The mother is a skyblue spangle and the father is a skyblue dom pied and i am sure he is a dom pied because he has iris rings and a big spot on the back of his head. What could be causing the plum eyes? Wondering what type the baby will be?

When i check my baby budgies this morning i could hear a chirping sound coming from the egg that is due to hatch today but it still has not hatched. Is it normal for it to chirp for a few hours before it hatched?

It has taken awhile but my aviary is finally finished. I decided to remove the wall from the big aviary to give them more flying room.

I got a new camera for my birthday so i spent time today playing with it by taking pictures of my pets. Kacey my dog would not sit still for a photo but the rest of my pets were easier. Button Quails Japanese Quails Matilda Sandy Roxy, all grown up. Budgie Pictures
  21. My first baby hatched today, the parents are doing a great job. Even though she has 6 eggs only 3 are fertile.
  22. Thanks Kaz and Dave, I will keep a close eye on her. She ate the millet spray i put in her nestbox so i put more in. This is her first time for breeding so maybe she is not aware that she is supposing to be leaving the eggs to go and eat and not just sit on them.
  23. I have checked her and she has no pooey bottom and the nestbox smells fine. I did noticed that she has a couple of pin feathers on her head so she is starting to moult which is not good.
  24. I have a hen sitting on 7 eggs and she is not leaving the nestbox, the male is going in and feeding her but i have noticed she is losing weight. i have put a millet spray and some vegies in the nestbox but is there anything else i can do for her.
  25. One pair have 5 eggs now but the other pairs are taking their time. The hens are going in the boxes and the males are preening and feeding them but still no eggs.
