  1. I think she was listed as Jenene28? ... She was very active some time ago, but has since started studying etc... She had other birds, not just budgies too. Is a lovely woman.
  2. Is this Jenene's... from the forum (hasn't been around for awhile) When I saw the photos I thought it looked familiar (I visited her when I was up NSW way) The more I look at them, and after doing a google search... I believe it is. Pity she's selling them though.
  3. I've never heard of a heating pad for budgies either... but you can get them for reptiles. Good luck on your search.
  4. Sounds exciting... I too can't wait for photos!
  5. So sorry for your loss... hugs xoxo
  6. Regardles of what type it is... 'female cobalt recessive', it wont need any different care. I know you don't want to buy a heap of stuff as as you said, hopefully the owner will come forward, but I would buy some seed. Hopefully you can find a small box/bag, but she/he really needs seed. Other than that I'd keep doing everything else your doing. If you don't end up finding her owner and decide to keep her, we can help you with more long term stuff and proper cage etc... but for a few days, at least she's safe at your place. You can cover her cage at night too, just with a sheet or something... makes them feel safe.
  7. Can you leave a light on for her at night. It does sound like a 'night fright' and a soft light/lamp would help. Trasport wise, I usually take mine in a small cage with one perch close to the bottom. I also cover the cage.
  8. I'm not sure what wire you're using to fill your holes, but steal wool works great. You just cut little bits off and stuff it it. I really hope you get some results soon. I feel for you!

Hi and welcome to you and your extended family. Awesome introduction too!!! Hope you stick around and I'd love to see some photos of your feathered and furred family

With the pegs, you've just got to make sure you put them on right. I used to use pegs, and if you do it one way, you can still slide the doors up. Just have a fiddle, and if you can't lift the door with the peg on, it's unlikely your budgie can. You can also use those twist ties you get on food etc... Or if it's a door you don't use, cable ties. You can also get those binder clips (black with silver handles) Binder Clips Much stronger than pegs, but I've never used them on a cage so I'm not sure if you can get them to stay on properly. Good luck and let us know how you go... I also don't think Pebbles needs more out of cage time as it sounds like you're doing what you can already. As long as her cage is plenty big enough, she has plenty of toys, you change her cage around regulary (to keep her busy) and maybe give her more time out on the weekends (which you probably do anyway).
  11. Yeah, I was thinking it could be related to our 'crazy' weather... I know ours down here Melbourne way has been all over the place. I'd say if health wise all has been well, I wouldn't worry.
  12. Sounds like he is 'feeding' his things... I'm not sure if it's possible to breakt his habit. Someone else may know. Does he get plenty of out of cage time? Maybe increase it? If you get another budgie for company, this behaviour may continue as he'll feed the new budgie. And male v's female... doesn't really matter. BUT quarantine needs to be away from the other bird. Separate cages is not enough. Other end of the house or garage if possible. Also, if your current boy is tame, adding another budgie can make him less tame too. Good Luck!
  13. So sorry for your loss! xoxo
  14. Yuck, yuck, yuck!!! As much as I'm terrified of snakes, I'd rather have a snake in my backyard than 20 mice! My Grandparents (when they were alive and able to) lived on a farm in country VIC. I still remember when they had a mouse plague... still makes my skin crawl to think about them running up the sides of the sheds... it was like a moving carpet . I really hope you're able to find a solution, atleast for your avairy. Good luck!
  15. Hi and welcome. I'm also sorry for your loss but agree with birdluv... it could have been anything. You said your aviary is 2m high and 1.5m wide... but how deep??? If it's square, then my advice is below. If it's bigger, disregard it lol... As to your aviary, I'm not sure how many budgie you can fit in it, hopefully someone else can help with that. As to the quails, many members also have quails, but I don't think your aviary is big enough for them as well as budgies. I mean I know quails are on the ground and don't fly, but you need to be able to get into your aviary and not be worried about stepping on them etc... I'd want a bit more room. Again, only my opinion and others with more experience may disagree... Good luck anyway!

Oh honey... I'm so sorry to hear of this news! HUGE ((((((((hugs)))))))))) to you and all the family xoxoxoxo
  17. Agree with Finnie... it does take time and some are harder to encourage than others... It can also help to eat the same foods as them when they're watching... I havn't looked through the links above, but maybe try chopping some veggies up really fine (seed sized) and mix with seed. Hopefully they'll look enough like it that he'll be confused and eat them!?!? lol Good luck and please keep us updated
  18. YAH... congrats on the new arrivals. I'm guessing it was HOT the day you took those photos lol...
  19. The minimum size okay for one budgie is 18" (45cm) square... so considering the one you linked to is a little under two ways, but quite a bit bigger in length, I'd say it will be okay... but see what others say first.

Mirrors are bad... he can see another bird in them and becomes friends with it instead of you. Your friend has some very bad ideas!!! Your current situation (once you get a bigger cage) is perfect for him. Keep up the training and he'll get there... promise!
  21. Excellent... he is looking so much better. Great work!
  22. He's prob gone from the wood heap... but can you flood him out??? Hose etc...?
  23. Can you get it from your vet? I know I got some from mine some years ago... in a nice little bottle. Good luck on your search!

Looks fantastic! Both your Grandfather and yourself did a great job! Looks like it will work really well. *** I LOVE using my tools too... At Christmas this year all the females of the family got perfume, clothes, bags etc... and I got a 'sander' lol... Happy building I say! ***
