  1. What a crazy week I did work experience with a vet for a bit when i was a kid and I had to assist with pulling a dead calf out of a cow. It was hard work, but thankfully it didn't lead to cutting the calf - i wouldn't have the stomach for it. I hope all goes well with you exams. Thanks for sharing. I love reading all the exciting activities you have been doing
  2. They are totally adorable photos My 4 year old son is the same with the birds. Tender moments to be treasured forever
  3. They look lovely I agree about getting rid of the sand paper. You are doing a brilliant job with raising these two.
  4. Hello and welcome Keeping a budgie is pretty easy providing the basics are met. As Maesie said, getting the right cage, feeding the right food, and puting your budgie in the right location are the three most important aspects of budgie keeping Well done for researching before getting your birdie Feel free to ask any questions you like. We don't mind answering questions that might been asked before
  5. They are lovely birds Thats a pretty bad clip I agree to let them grow out, but i would also clip the other wing too. Oh, and it is normal for a bird to pick at freshly clipped wings. It prbably feels a little odd for them at first.
  6. I also clip the same way as Libby. It is the ONLY way in my view!! It looks neat, but more importantly, it is comfortable for the bird. I have no idea where the idea came for clipping one wing came from! I got my Tiel, Sammy, with one wing clipped VERY short, and 2 flights left on the cut side too. she was very uncomfortable i clipped her my way when i got her home and she is MUCH happier now I think having one wing clipped for a bird would be like us wearing a heavy steele cap boot on one foot and a thong on the other ALL DAY
  7. I agree, Looks normal to me. Here are 2, 4 week old bubs :fear They can waddle around but it will be another week before they are perching nicely
  8. I agree with Elly. She sounds like she needs more dark (covered with a dark cloth) time. This should quieten her hormones and make her 'normal' again :fear
  9. It was the petstore the day I bought him, the girl who did it looked not a day over 14 though, may have something to do with it Breeders just right eh? Not a biast comment hey Liv Just kidding, I think you would be right! Bias.... who me???? NOOOO!! hehehe
  10. WOW!! Well done for raising a baby budgie from a few days old - that is really hard to do!! I would pop him in a cage with his 'nest' in the bottom so he can hop in and out and explore a bit without geting into danger. Also give him some millet to chew on between feeds. Budgies wean in at around 6-7 weeks of age.
  11. he looks gorgeous did a vet cut his wings?? they are very short. Vets tend to do them short, petshops tend to do them long and Breeders do them just right
  12. I agree, its normal.
  13. I posted this picture in another thread, and then i noticed it shows their clean cage paper... so i thought i would post it here too Note.. I changed the paper last sunday hehe

Hello and welcome Jade I am so sorry about the snake - It must have been devastating I am so pleased you wanted to join us We love pictures so feel free to show us your lovely birds.
  18. Awwwww She is lovely "HELLO MOLLY - So lovely to see you "
  19. While not breeding my birds get seed and veggies daily (2-3 types of these a day ---> corn, carrots, broccoli, snow peas, boc choi (sp?) spinach, peas etc.) MY birds also love Soaked soup mix... which has barley, peas, corn and lentils - they get this twice a week A branch of lush native leaves 1-2 times a week. I also give multivitamins once to twice a week during moulting
  20. Sorry it took me a while to get back here - She is a (99) DF Spangle with black eyes and iris ring - she is out of condition
  21. Looks great. Hope it's still available. it's a bargain!!
  22. Hello and welcome. I love your picture. They all look so sweet lined up like that Viva looks brilliant for her age!
  23. I have the Passwell brand and my birds wont touch it hahaha. I haven't tried any other brands or budgie starter. I believe that you can use chicken starter on budgies, its the same stuff and A LOT cheaper
  24. good quality Seed will look clean, shiny and 'healthy' and smell pleasant too. I find the home brand seeds from the supermarkets look cracked, stale and dirty - not something I would feed to my birds. a good test you can do is to dip your hand in the seed and leave it there for a minute or so, when you remove your hand if there is dark dust on your skin and/or smells bad, then the seed is no good!
  25. You can handle the bubs a little from day 1 to check for development signs of illness. They are rubbery little things and are quite robust Handle them more when they start to get feathers. Don't take them away from the parents when you do it until they leave the nest (4-5 weeks) Handle them the most once they have fledged and onwards - this is the age where they will quickly turn wild if left alone.
