  1. Thata a cool link - Did you spot that Libby's Opaline profile picture is in there too
  2. I say hen because, even though the 'rings' around the nostrils are not defined, they are there in a blurry sense, and the colour of the cere is right for a hen - male would be more pinky/purple

Bread is one the the main ingredients in Passwell's Egg and biscuit mix too. if you take out the salt. bread is basically just weat (and yeast)
  4. Thats really interesting, because the same people, AE, said i must give food and water Very confusing. perhaps MB, you could give them a call and see what the guys in Melbourne have to say, as it seems different in every state hehe
  5. hehe Budgies are full of surprises
  6. Still the same amount of time Part of the huge travel time with me was we live a good hour from the airport, and ditto with my dad who picked him up. Pets, whether accompanied or not, still need to be checked in early, and after the flight, they pickup wait is still the same. and then there is any traveling times between home and airport etc.
  7. Water IS to be given, as well as food. Water needs to be in a small shallow cup that is glued to the base then filled with cotton wool and then filled with water. The cotton stops the water spilling . Seed is to be sprinkled on the bottom. The birds actually spend quite a number of hours in transit as they have to get to the air express terminal 1.5 hours before the flight, then after the flight there is an aditional 30-45min wait for them to be un loaded. From SA to VIC my Tiel was in the box from 8am until 3:30pm - long day! Birds are not permitted as hand luggage. Many people actually have a bad phobia of birds (like my friend - she is terrofied of them, which is interesting when she comes to myplace for coffee!) The cargo hold is pressureised and perfectly fine for the animals to travel - I am pretty sure they have a spot for the pets that is seperate from the baggage

But a little bit as a treat every now and then wont do any harm
  9. I sent a tiel to melbourne 2 months ago. the only requirements is that the box is wooden and secure. there are no requirements on size, i guess they assume the owner would give it the best size box. I bought a tiel freight box from my local bird dealer for $14 it was about 40cm long, 20cm high and 25cm deep. had 2 perches and a water container. Closed in on all sides but one and a lockable door. Birds travel with Australia Air Express, on Qantas aircraft. Hope this helps
  10. It's good to cover their cage at night  they will sleep better and be happier during the day. You will probably find a cockroach snuck into their cage and scared the birds. covering them won't stop them getting in. Little buggers are attracted to the seed
  11. AAAAAWWWWWW!!!!! They are ADORABLE!!!! Love the first picture - SOOOO CUTE!!! The little bub with rickets looks like she is doing really well too
  12. WOW!! very handsome colours Beats me too. an Opaline of a sort i think
  13. I can't remember what the stuff that makes the beak black is called, but its a sign of good genes - so you are doing well Neat
  14. Hello and welcome :hap: You have had some great advice so far from MB and Neat. Your babies sound young, but not all babies have black on the beak - that purely depends on genetics not age. I agree that they should be kept quiet and calm for the first week or two. I normally cover my new birds for the first 24 hours, so they can get used to the sounds before they see everything too - it helps them adjust. If your budgies are very young they pose a risk of not eating properly on their own. If you see their poo turn bright green and runny, then you know they are not eating. All birds get stressed with moving house, so dont expect much from them for at least 3 days. They will gradually get more confident and perch, eat, sing etc
  15. Hello and welcome :hap: The behavior you describe happens to all budgies, tame or otherwise. It is simply called a "night fright" and it's normally caused by a mouse or a cockroach entering the cage and spooking the birds.
  16. WOW!! That looks great!!! - looks like your tiels are loving their new home
  17. I cant help with hand rearing - I have no experience with it... Libby and a few other members (cant remember who ) are very good with it and will be able to help you there Broken/cracked bones can be felt, by gently feeling along the legs a toes etc. if the bird flinches (in pain) or if you can feel a spot that doesn't feel right, then it's possibly broken. a broken bone would also be swollen and/or bruised by now too - check the breast area too seeing as it took most of the impact. baby budgies bones are still quite flexable - so fingers crossed, he is just bruised :hap: He will be fine in a scarf until he starts to feel better and explore
  18. So pleased he made the night. Have you checked for broken bones?? he could have cracked something in the fall. If he is able to squeeze your finger with his toes, that is a good sign (neurologically), but doesn't rule out breaks Hopefully he is just bruised and sore, and after a week or so of TLC, will be back to normal

  20. Oh Maesie, Biggest hugs from me too. . It was really hard to watch my Granny go in a similar way. My grandpa, on the other hand, passed really suddenly (while mowing the lawn) - it was a complete shock to all and i am still really sad about not being able to say good bye. I wish you lots of love, strength and support for such a difficult time. Lots of hugs and sending prayers your way Luv Liv xoxox
  21. I have a hen who is a real stress case too. she flipped out for 2 weeks until i caved and put her in an aviary all to her self, even still she was quite stressed until she joined the main flock. Personally I would put your hens poops down to recovering from stress. I find it takes a good week or so for the poops to turn completely normal after a major stress incident and not eating. I'd give her some wormer, wait a few more days, if the poops are still sticking (or not improving at least) it would be a good idea to take her to the vet, who will test the poop for other causes. If you see any other signs of illness (fluffed, blood in poop, decrease in activity etc.) then she will need to go to the vet sooner. hope this helps keep us posted
  22. Did she have a period of not eating when you first got her? She would have had green runny poops if she did.
  23. Gotta love it when others step in and help feed the babies
  24. can you pop a 25-40 watt lamp in the cage? It will help keep them warm if you must keep them out side.
