  1. Birds are very susceptible to salmonella bacteria, so every precaution must be taken when preparing and serving eggs, some also recommend boiling for up to 20 minuets to ensure all bacteria is dead. You can serve the crushed shells as well. Also, be sure to disguard any uneaten egg food after 2 hours.
  2. hard boiled eggs, YES! spoiled..... no
  3. WOW, is all i can say.... WOW!
  4. I see 2 females... pied looks like a female.
  5. A cere that protrudes out from the hens face can be hormonal. It may be she is getting ready to shed here cere, which is normal in the hens cycle. She may have hormonal imbalances making the cere more pronounced than normal... Photos???
  6. I agree with Maesie... But in the event that someone does buy from a pet shop, its best to closely observe the shop and the birds in it. Make sure everything is clean and ALL the birds are bright and healthy. If anything looks off, walk out, or complain.
  7. I was in the newbie shoes for the last 12 months Renee, i have to say i have a greater respect for those breeders who actually help a novice breeder, with either information, secrets of the diet, breeding tips, and decent cheap birds. Of course there are some overly competitive ones out there who guard their every secret and wouldn't help a new breeder, but that just makes them look full of themselves in my mind. My personal opinion is to always help where possible. If a breeder tells you a trade secret and specifically tells you not to pass it around, respect it. Otherwise, help them
  8. I have a plant growing that i plan to use for the birds when its big enough
  9. Shaggy passed away in the early hours of this morning.... Shaggy started growing really unusual feathers that had extremely thick shafts... if one fell out, they bled in a torrent!! He didn't bleed recently, but these odd feathers with their taxing blood demands on his already stressed body, were the last straw and he couldn't go on any longer. I have photos of the weird feathers and will post them later. Poor Shaggy... Your in peace now my little guy
  10. Sounds fine to me. personally i give my birds clear water and give them all their additives in their soft food. Personally i wouldn't give sulfa in the water unless you were treating for sickness as it kills good bacteria. Give pro-biotic on the days you dont give Apple cider vinegar.
  11. WOW!!!!! They are HUGE!! Love the names too!
  12. Photos would help greatly if possible. I have never seen a black cere on an adult bird, only on some chicks. A really dark brown cere on a hen indicates she is on the way out of breeding condition, so it may be that.
  13. I agree with Dean
  14. Brown to the cere in a cock can also be a sign of testicular cancer so keep an eye on his health until it returns to normal colour
  15. Canker is an infection of the mouth and crop... I am not sure if canker has been recorded for odor, but infection in many cases causes odor to the local sight. Might be worth getting him check by an avian vet. I have never noticed an unpleasant smell from budgies before unless they are unwell. Green ring means he was born in 2007
  16. Noting wrong with rain.. i agree as Maesie already stated, its very important to not let the birds forage on the wet aviary floor and many bird keepers take every precaution to ensure the aviary floor stays bone dry all year round.
  17. Are you referring to this one GB?? She is a YF DF spangle and a full sibling to our feather dusters
  18. Thanks These are the ones i am proud of the most... Oh and i almost forgot Cookie.. my tame budgie who now lives in the kindy flight, he insisted on a photo today
  19. Have been so busy of late that i haven't had time to take a whole lot of photos of the birds, but today, seeing as my assignments are due tomorrow and i am effectively procrastinating, I thought it was a perfect time to some birds haha. the following are all birds we have bred this year
