  1. I suppose that it wouldn't be worth showing a sick bird in the first place....mmm??

  3. What was most upsetting was that it was the pair I was most excited about breeding Always the way
  4. Fantastic photos of 2 gorgeous birds
  5. I did put a fake egg in with the first cracked egg that she smashed, she has thrown that out of the nest box also. She spends some time in the nest box, not a lot. Calcium - She has calcivet in the water, fresh vegies daily and breeding aid in the seed. I thought maybe I would return her to the avairy and try her again in 6 months??
  6. Sorry it was Eric Bogle who wrote it. (Must have been having another dementia moment - as my 14 year old says to me) I have heard several people sing it. It really is a beautiful song.
  7. It looks so different already
  8. Very interesting Neat. You are a wealth of knowledge
  9. Lucky birds will have a great life with you
  10. I have put down an 16 month old hen with a 2 year old proven cock. It is the hen's first clutch. She laid her first egg on the floor of the breeding cage on Thursday, it was cracked and the cock was all flustered trying to move it, so I put it in the nest box to show her that's where it should be. When I went out about an hour later she had smashed it all up in the nest box. Today she laid her second on the floor of the cage and again smashed it. My questions are: Will she always smash her eggs? Do I remove her from the breeding cage and put her in a seperate cage or do I put her back into the avairy?
  11. I love that song. It was Eric Bogle's song.
  12. WOW it looks so much bigger now!
  13. This is so sad, I really feel for the little girl who has obviously been given no boundaries and to be left to her own devices is unbelievable. She doesn't understand right from wrong and apparently neither parent has the time or inclination to deal with her, she is just a problem to them. I also understand your frustrations AV. I know it is not up to you or your job but maybe you could let her help you with your birds so that she understands more and that she just can't play with the cages. I hope you can work it all out.
  14. This is a great idea, I've just found it after having no computer for over a week. Hello, my name is Denise and i am a budgieholic My husband started it all off when he bought a Violet Cinnamon Wing Hen for my boys to give me for Mother Day 2007. After a couple of weeks I thought she looked lonely so went and got her a mate. By October 2007 we had built a 4 metre by 2 metre avairy and had 30 budgies. Now it's July 2008, we have 60 budgies and 2 avairies and the frame ready to be wired and sheeted up for a third avairy. I love the noises they make and the beautiful colors :hap:
  15. It is a shame that everything takes $$$$$$ life would be simpler without it :hap:
  16. Thanks Kaz. I have given spot on Ivermectin and have been putting some parafin oil on the feet of the worst ones. As for the iris ring on the hen, she is only young so I will have to wait for that.
  17. Great photos Zebra, the budgies almost look camoflaged in the vegies
  18. I have been given 5 budgies by a girlfriend who's mother has had to go into a nursing home and can't look after them. I was a bit shocked when I got them, they were very thin and all had scaley mite worse than I have ever seen but after treatment they are coming on okay. I am a bit confused with the pieds, if anyone could help with the mutations I would be grateful. There is 2 cocks the same as below. Skyblue Opaline Spangles?? This cock is very pretty it has one pure white wing and the other one has just a touch of blue on the top. Has also got dark violet around his neck which hasn't come out very well in the photo. I have know idea of his mutation?? Next one is a pretty some sort of Spangle I think?? This last hen is a Creamino I think. She has some sort of crusting around one of her eyes, although better than it was, I was wondering if it could be scaley mite?? Not a very clear photo sorry.
  19. We have a Bug Zapper in our breeding room, it's a good light and keeps the bugs at bay as well
