I had a chick hatch sometime between 7am and 11am. The first time Mum has not fed the chick as yet. I have used the cock before and he was a good dad but he doesn't seem interested in the chick this time either. How long do I leave the unfed chick with them to see if they feed it? I have another hen I can foster to who is sitting on eggs but her eggs aren't due to hatch until 25th - is that to long apart for her?

Thanks Kaz, the zebras we have were only supposed to be here for a short time while their owners moved - 8 months ago. Maybe time to chase them up again I think. So would it be okay to put the Gouldians in with just the Canaries in a 4m x 2m avairy? We only have 2 pair of canaries and the one pair of gouldians at this stage.

We have bought 2 gouldian finches and were going to put them in with the canaries, society finches and zebra finches, but when I was researching the gouldians one site said that they can't go in with zebra finches. Does anyone have gouldians and do they have them in an avairy with any other birds??

How can you tell that one is a boy Liv? Not sure what is on the beak I didn't notice it myself until I posted the photos. I'll have to try and catch him and have a look. Any hints on how to catch a cockatiel and keep my fingers A really big net and VERY thick leather gloves!!! That's where I have the problem, I don't like to catch a bird with gloves on as I like to be able to feel the bird, maybe I'll leave that to hubby Thanks Elly. The lady said they aren't young, between the ages of 3-4 she thinks. They have leg rings on some so I'll have to check them for ages.

My greys are called Storm, Smokey and Stumpy (that's only because he has one leg so that doesn't count)

In Victoria the child has to turn 5 before April 30th. It used to be June 30th many years ago but for some reason they changed it. Also preschool and kindergarten are the same thing in Victoria. My 3 and 4th child were born in March and I kept both of them back (against kinder teachers recommendations) until the following year and it was the best thing that I could have done.

I think 4 budgies would be fine in this size cage if you're not planning on breeding them in it.

Some photos, not very good as I took them late yesterday afternoon and they're flight skittish, still today. They aren't used to human interaction as the avairy they were in just had a shelf that slid out of the side to change seed and water so no-one ever went into the avairy apparently
