  1. See this is what is strange, they LOVE their millet and will jump up on my hands when I give it to them outside of the cage it's just the getting them out of the cage that is the issue, will work with the millet in the cage and see how I go, thanks.
  2. LOL another one! I know that feeling all to well.... cute little guy all Aussie just in time for the Olymics
  3. they are, Boof is not 100% sure about his wings clipped but as he spent a while in the aviary I figured it would be the safest way to help him adjust otherwise it might be a nightly version of catch the Budgie. Elly you might be able to help me with this. I can't get either of them to step up, they show no intrest and actively run away from my hand and/or pole when I attempt to do this. However when I (for lack of a better word) grab them out of their cage they are happy to run all over me will jump up on my hands while I type play on my desk so I know it's not a fear thing they just sort of go... "are you serious mum? If you want me then you need to grab me, cuddle me and then let me go on your desk" it's just a bit fustrating and they look half wild and scared when I catch them from their cage but after that they are cool. I know it's early days more so for Boof then Buddy and they don't get handled as much as I would like but still any tips would be great.

    welcome
  5. Just thought you might like a picture of my two guys. Taming is coming along well, found it is harder with two then one but once out they love to explore, only issue is that Buddy has taught Boof to chew and now both of them love to sit on my shoulders and chew my hair! Or feed each other which is a strange sound right near your ear! Also the funny little honking sound that they do. Buddy has also worked out that if he runs across my back I shiver and he then holds on and flaps like mad... strange little fellows!
  6. I would say yes to a Green but I am still learning, however she does look very yellow through the face... hmmm okay going to leave that one for someone who is better at it then me. Also LOVE LOVE LOVE the grey!
  7. Yes there has been some people who joined our club because their local club has shut up shot. Every time we meet I hear about another member who has died or who is getting out of the hobbie, I think it is just a good way to help us who are starting off with your $7 - $40 birds to get our hands on a bird that we would not think about buying. I know that Ivan is doing a great trade in avairy clear outs with older people getting out of the Hobby or who have died. It's said but a fact of life. I have no doubt that these birds will not be the cream of the crop but they will be better then I could afford, either way a good quality show Budgie I will be happy to take
  8. Sorry misscommunication, not thinking of breeding from them for at least 30 days to make sure that they are not sick. Also not going to put them in the same room as my healthy Budgies till I know they are 100% well. Sorry I was thinking more in the future not right now
  9. Been thinking, Maybe they would settle down if I gave them a breeding box. Thinking I might pair them as I do like their size but not sure what I will get out of them. Any ideas or not thinking it is a good idea? Either way I need to let them do quarantine and hoping that if I let her settle in a cage with a breeding box and then add him a week later and keep an eye on them for the first day they might settle. They have been talking to each other through the bars of their cage today so maybe it will work or do you think that her colour would wash out his? Ideas suggestions....
  10. He looks so much better then last time. You are doing a great job with him!
  11. Mine love Silverbeet and Celery tops, also try apple. You might want to mix seed into their veggies and take their seed bowl away for a few hours. That way they get the idea that they can eat the veggies.
  12. Here is an idea http://www.instructables.com/id/Bird-cage-mansion/
  13. Very cute can see why you came home with them. Glad to know they are getting a vet check. Also talk to the vet about what MB said about the wings. I have had one that came to me with wings clipped like that she within a few days she had broken both of them off and I had a bleeding Budgie issue. Now when I clip wings I clip them all and have never had an issue but it is a personal thing. Congrats on your purchase.
  14. With Veggies try silverbeet and also with Corn I find my guys will eat it off the cob but not cut up on a plate, go figure. So get some fruit sticks and put the corn cob on that and see how you go. Also Celery tops are another firm fav of my guys.
  15. Yes they are very good about that. I know when i took MBs wedding gift in, outside of wanting to shoot the crested they all had discussions with us over what the Hen was and what to pair her with. They where also fasinated by the wild Budgies. We are slowly learning who to take advice off and who to nod agree and walk off on there is advise to help us grow as breeders and there is advise to get us to buy one of their birds! They have mentioned time and time again that they are happy for us to bring Budgies in for the Judge to look at and make recommendations which is what people have done at the last meeting.
  16. There is a rumour going around our club at the moment that some of the older/top breeders are going to put a bunch of bird up for the newbies to pull names from a hat so we get one good bird to help us start our stock, pretty much a luck dip of Budgies! It's funny there is one person at our club who when he heard this was all like "Never going to happen" but the other older/more advanced breeders are all up for it. I just hear the word "Free Budgie" and I LOVE the idea! I think it is a good idea and a great way to help out new members and if I am ever in the position to do the same in return then I would. I fear that there is not enough young people starting out and it's hard to get into breeding and showing as a hobby as it is no longer cheap. It's great that there are people around who are willing to help out the new members and give them a hand up because without them then who is going to take over and continue to run the clubs? *gets off my soap box*
  17. Missylu Lemon and Lime do this a bit, she preens and preens him and then he ends up with a bald patch. She then seems to layoff for a bit, feathers grow back and we start again. I was worried that he had something like mites but nope she just likes to preen him. I have a few times now physically stopped them and she seems to lay off for a few days I think so birds are just so in love they can't help it!
  18. Well now you are a nurse, Dr, Cook, Cleaner, Taxi Driver, Coach, Child Care Worker, Dishwasher, Vet, Police Officer (for then the riots come) and a few things inbetween!
  19. Thanks guys, the Hen is growing on me and has been nick named Island, the Cock is Phillip (any guess where we went for our weekend away? ) Both are going into Molt I believe and both hate each other, there was a quick stop on the way home to split them into seperate boxes and then again last night to move them into seperate cages.... yeah these two do not get along. I like Phillips colours so much that I am thinking I need to hunt around for a nice big normal green hen to go with them and hopefully maintain his colour in the chicks. I am thinking that I will put Island to either Brandon or Micky as both are normal greys and on the smaller size so hopefully that will give me some darker greys and better size.
  20. LOL I can just see it now... death of the herse, tonight we look at how customs officals force a struggling family to dismante their own car while looking for dead animals... how will the family survive and will the herse be able to be restored to it's current glory.....
  21. Ppor little thing, sometimes the mutations are bigger then the bird! She is very pretty however!
  22. If it has stopped bleeding i would leave it and then do a clean up tomorrow. If you can get the reamining stub of the feather with twezers then I personally would but ONLY if you are comfortable doing that (I have done it do many times now between Blue and Boof I can pull a blood feather like it is no ones business) It comes down to if the bleeding has stopped and do you want to risk it starting again. Hope it works out. *hugs*
  23. PA to the pope.... I was a troubled child!
  24. what a mouth full for such a small little bird!
  25. LIbby you are lucky that you have someone that is ready to step up and take them on. that is my biggest fear with getting a larger bird what will happen to him when I am gone. jenene283 - do keep us updated would love to see the pictures!
