I have given AVI-CAL straight to the beak on vets advice. He said as long as you can mix it with water you can give it straight (for Calcium as it is hard to OD a bird on Calcium) just make sure that they don't get any in their airways and have a large amount of fresh water as some don't like the taste and drink hughe amounts after being given it. ETA - Points at Kaz's post above - agreed but sometimes it makes the owner feel better

I was shocking I treated Harley as if he was a kid, when he did something unacceptable then he got time out like any child I looked after when he did something good he got rewarded. If possible I would rather not use any form of physical punishment so the time out box worked well.

Do you have a box in the corner? I use to do it with Harley and will do it with Boof and Buddy if they start something like this. Basically put them in the box, if their wings are clipped leave the top off they go in the box, there is nothing in there, no food, water, toys, it's kind of boring then let them out about 30secs later they get the drift very quickly that they are in time out. Harley had an issue of flying at peoples faces (he did not have his wings clipped) so I would put him in his box in the corner and put a towel on top of it, then open it up and he would be allowed out. then one day he was annoying my sister and she told him NO very loudly he flew to his box and got in very cute but it what then that I knew he had the message about time out corner.

Going to have to ask around for a girlfriend for Charlie (feel free to rename him) make sure you ask to cause I am happy to buy you a hen you like rather then me get one and you go "gee thanks that... well... look another Budgie" which is pretty much what you other half will do

MB just cause everytime I come to your house I come home with birds does not mean that it is a trend..... I swear! Any breeders in Melbourne have and bright green crest breed hens for me?

I know she likes greens and i am pretty sure she like opalines... so maybe a green gray spangle crest bred hen is there is such a thing and I can find one in Melbourne... hey Kaz how about you just ship me one of yours I am sure you will have something pretty and being a Kaz bird will make her forget all about mutations! I am pretty sure she likes DF so I am thinking another spangle then, hmmm as for blues or greens arghhhhh hmmmmm MB if you are reading this you might want to give me a hand (come on I know you are reading! ) I think she likes blues as she seem to have alot of blues in her avairy and her breeding pairs are either yellow faced blues or blue spangles like Buddy.... Hmmmmm so a blue spangle crest breed hen then maybe huh my head hurts! Knew I should not have had that wine....

okay so a little while ago this guy who has been dubbed Charlie for some reason, came into my care. He is a young bird and I think once molt finishes he will be half crested. I know he is a spangle but after that my mutation knowledge runs out sorry (still learning) I have decided as I have no desire to breed crested and not the biggest fan of the spangles that I am going to give him to MB as a wedding gift but I want to get him a mate and give her the pair. So what would you suggest that I pair him with? I know that I should get a crest breed female and not another crested or tuffed hen but I need to know what Mutation would produce pretty babies for MB. she really likes the spangles so anything to hold that part of his mutation would be great. let me know so I can then see about getting one before the wedding. thanks in advance And MB if you have read this then I am going to come around and steal some of your birds

I just love Boofs reaction to the whole thing, Buddy goes flying across the keyboard and Boof does this little shrug at the end as if to say "Well look there goes speed typing budgie!"

Bert I personally think that scaly mites presents differnent in each bird I have had two birds with it but the condition does not look the same also alot of the pictures on the net are of really advance cases so your might not look that bad yet. Looking forward to the pictures!
