Free Budgie With Cage
they are raised and then if they believe they will be able to survive they will be released. As they are bush budgies the carer who was there was talking to me about it. They will be put into a cage with a foster mum and if she feeds them then great if not they will be hand feed, once that happens they will look at moving them to a re hab centre if they are demmed suitable for release they will either go to a zoo aviary or a suitable area will be found to release them in. it's not uncommon for bush budgies to be taken / trapped in the wild and brought down to melbourne to be sold. there is a trade in it as people think the little guys are so cute. because they are the tradtional native (not mutations) then they should be fine to go back. Here is hoping they can now all live a long and happy life.

Free Budgie With Cage
Parrots need to be weaned... I know this cause on the way home I stopped and the RSPCA was there. Most of these guys where tiny tiny tiny little bush budgies and no one could give details of there they came from .... :bluebudgie: They organised for a wildlife carer to come and take them away they will be rasied and released as everyone involved including me after talking to the cop believes they may have been taken from the wild as no one could find the breeders details. All in all a good result I think, i am feeling good about it!

What Did You Come Home With Today Av?
You are quick off the mark! I am AV give me your sick and wounded and I shall heal them! Give me your lost and I will spend all day on the phone tracking down their thoughtless stupid owner Give me your naughty and I will try to explain to my boss that the bird flying around my office at work is not a health issue.... I give you the $150 crested Budgie that the kids lost intrest in so they let him go..... Not sure what to do with him but I know that MB likes Crested ones so maybe a wedding gift????? or a loaner to try and get some chicks out of... So the story is that the Breeder sold to the lady for her kids as a pet bird for $150, they got bored of it and let it go. :bluebudgie: She does not want the bird back (not sure I would give it to her anyway) the breeder does not want it back. A lady found it and brought it into work as she thought it was a baby and I will take my hat off to her as she was trying to feed it handrasing mix that she had bought. I am known as the crazy bird lady so the bird was handed to me. I then tracked the breeder via the ring details who gave me the owners name and number, rang the owner and found out what happened and then brought him home. Did a swap around and a quick clean of a cage and he is settled into Quaratine.... Oh and his head he has broken a few blood feathers as she is going though molt he had not been attacked like everyone in the office thought! Another lady has a couple of birds she wants to get rid of (hand tamed Budgies) but i told her that it would have to be a few weeks before I could look at taking them on! So MB what you think?

Quarantining
It is a matter of trust. I know that some breeders bring show birds back and then do a mini quarantine for 10 days just to make sure that they have not picked up anything. Also the bird do not come into direct contact with each other so yes there are risks but it's the way the wheel turns. Calling show breeders - what are your practices after a show?

Free Budgie With Cage
Kaz I am so with you on that. One of the other reasons that I could not justify taking them all was that how am I suppose to do that and I am sure that I would end up killing a few Also the cage was not bad, not great okay for one Budgie if they got out of the cage time but even then a little on the small side. Am going to go back past on my way home and see what they are up to.

Boof & Buddy where very cute today. They are in the Study with the heater on to keep the heat up to them but I also have one of those wheat packs that you heat up, does not stay warm for long but still thought I would keep it in there for a bit. Took MBs idea with the possum and put it in a breeding box and put the breeding box in the cage and let Boof get in there and it's a nice dark warm hole for him to rest in. Well Buddy wants in as well so today when I woke up and got the heat pack out both of them where still in there for the night before. Heated up the pack re set it up and both crawled in and snuggled down so I figure that they are happy. My sister just rang to tell me she was home for lunch and heated the pack up again she did not even get the box 100% back in the cage and they where already climbing in The room they are in is warm so I am not worried about them being cold I just think it is to cute.... now I have to break the news to them in a few days that they will not be getting the heat pack and box back again.....

I Dont Think Penny Is Albino
We need a budgie mutation machine. You go down to your local super market pop the Budgie inside and ping out pops the results :hap: I suck at mutations but she is very very pretty.

Settling In
Give them a good week. Also I find my older birds and brids from breeders have no clue what toys are and are really freaked out by them. Elly once said something alone the lines of we have to think of them as wild animals not domestic ones. A new puppy will look to you for comfort and support a new bird will see you as a preditor. Keep going with them, give them time and space and also find out their fav treat this will help alot in the process.

Settling In
Give them a few days to a week, that is a big cage to get use to and also an even bigger room. so it might be very scarey for them. I am sure they will come around with time. Also how old are they? I find my older ones carry on more then my younger ones.

Free Budgie With Cage
Yes it is illegal to seel parrots that are not weaned... got a call back from the cop and he asked me "Are they parrots?" when I said yes they are Budgies he asks are Budgies Parrots? Huh never knew that! GRRRRR Not his fault but he did say that he would check it out. Yeah I know how to do it and hope that I never have to do it ask I would not be confident enough to do it as well. I wanted to buy all the babies just to save them but that would not help the matter. Hopefully the RSPCA will take them off the pet store.

Free Budgie With Cage
So I stop at this pet shop on the way to work BIG sign "Free tamed baby budgie when you purchase cage". GRRRRRR I go in and ask to speak to the manager (I am in a grumpy mood today so this just annoyed me) I explained to the guy (who looked about 12) that this was wrong and that they should not sell the Budgies as free with a cage. We had words and he finally walked off. So I was a little annoyed and then I spot the girl crop feeding the "tame baby budgies" So I go and ask her if they can feed themselves and she tells me no they can't but not to worry cause they give all new owners a lesson on how to crop feed these poor little guys... just wait I thought it was illegal to sell a bird that young? So Now I am fuming, I get back in my car and call and leave messages with the RSPCA, i call the cops cause I am so mad but I don't think anything will happen. So I get to work and when onto a few forums that I check while I wait on hold and there is this guy in the states telling everyone how great it is cause his local pet shop is selling... you guessed it free with cage budgies! Everyone is telling him how it is a great deal.... GRRRRRR I post a response and then the mods come at me and tell me to edit it or be banned so I toned it down but really GRRRRRR Now I am really annoyed and well just venting

My Aviary....start To Finish
- Scaly Mites
that is pretty much my theory- Postive News
He was really upset being seperated from buddy, I put the heat pack in the cage and opened the door to let Buddy out and boof followed him so I figured 5 mins would not hurt gave them some millet and put them back and covered them for the night. I would be happier if he had sat suggled up in the smaller cage but he had a mind of his own! Yes I keep telling him that He's my little NQR Budgie, he is NQR cause he thinks he a a puppy dog!- Scaly Mites
My vet says that it treats them for worms as well. I use to worm in their water but he says that it's a waste of time and I know that Blue does not drink water with wormer in it after a bad experience getting into his eye and I have a dirt floor aviary and don't have a worm issue. however you could worm and only use it when you treat for mites are they appear up to you really. You should treat them once every three months and that covers worms and mites, same as you would with wormer in the water. I admit I have been slack and decided that it's easier to add wormer to the water rather then catch them all and treat them if they show no signs of mites Once a week for three weeks is a bit of overkill according to my vet but he feels that you are 100% sure to catch them all and does not do the budgie any harm- Postive News
