  1. Nerwen We are all here to help one another and I guess this is one... More info on pBFD...... Chereeoke this fits him to a tea his beak, blood within the shaft ( hence why i thought his wing was hacked ) Young birds are affected by an acute form of PBFD, which occurs during their first feather formation, after replacement of down feathers. The developing feathers often fracture, bleed or fall out. Young birds may die following a short period of anorexia (loss of appetite), depression and diarrhea, with very little feather abnormality. Older birds are thought to develop a chronic form in which dystrophic feathers stop growing shortly after emerging from the follicles. The feathers become increasingly abnormal with each successive molt. Contour feathers are usually affected early, while primary feathers are affected later in the disease. Contour feathers often are lost over most of the body. New feathers may have retained feather sheaths, blood within the shafts, are curled and deformed, or are short and clubbed. The beak may also be involved in the disease process. It may change from a dull black to a glossy appearance. It may grow abnormally long and develop splits and cracks which break and peel. Bacteria and fungi often invade the abnormal beak, causing further destruction and necrosis (death) of the tissues. The abnormal beaks often make it difficult for the bird to eat as it may be very painful.... and Shyannes beak was just breaking away when the vet cut it.....
  2. Sorry....Was in a state last night... She looked at him and said it could be french molt... then after plucking feathers she said it is Beak and Feather.... When i got home i was reading up on both French molt and pbfd and I was have been so BLAH from it all but it is pbfd.......
  3. Thanks Elly & Kaz... I found a site that was listed under french molt..... I can't believe that a breeder had these in a cage with all his other birds, from what I understand that it can be spread thru feather dust * Flapping their wings. I think that They will be kept isolcated completly from the others, But I don't want to risk the chance of the not washing the hand the once , I will have to keep detol soap next to their cage this will remind me, I was always a sucker for the "odd one" I will just make the rest of their stay more enjoyable and as good as it can get..... well at least we know now what to look for - cause over grown beaks can be a sign too but the "Hacked / backyard job" flight feathers is french molt.... so we can help others, and they will know what to look for..
  4. Hey all, Just updating you all on the trip from the vets.... She was lovely..... But Chereeoke does have the onsets of PBFD I don't have the $$$ for confirmed diagnoise But she is 99% sure and has seen this case often to tell the signs. She showed me with his tail feather to where ( i thought his wing was hacked ) and there is no folicol this is why he runs and not flies. Only a couple of tail feathers and 1 wing feather no primaries, his wings are trying to grow but pinched off growth point and Adv not to breed him ( He found the nest box today ) Shayanne - Her overgrown beak... WELL that wasn't all.... NOT SCAELY FACE *few how everher Lower beak is as deformity congenital which is allowing the upper beak to over grow........... THIS SUCKS i know I have had them for a few days but i am still crying over this, Hubby says they're just birds, But Hey..... SO because the two of them were/ are sharing a cage she is bound it get it... I have to clean out the Breeding cage they were in and THis is just bloody great....... But I just wanted to let you all know what the go is ... and THANKYOU, if it wasn't for this Forum I wouldn't have known to Quarrentine new birds and the rest of my flock would have it too.. So thanks guys, I don't know what to do with them now I can't have them with / near my others Please any ideas, I am not one to make them dog food cause they are sick, but I might read up more on this...... THanks agin

WELCOME Sock.... This forum is great full of alot of advice... About the Trill... I mix in a pkt with the seeds I get ( I make my own miexs up now) I like the fact that it has the vegies in it too, I am not to sure what others think but my birds are still alive ( 2 ys) I would worm him just to be sure. it is usually every 3 -4 months ( so my bottles says) But I re do all new birds again.... But in Branches not standard dow stick this helps their feet from setting sores and etc, Maybe a cuttlebone or mineral block ( Mine are in the shape of grapes)..... I'm sure you get more info and advice when the other member read your post.... I wish you "Ollie" and your family happy times ahead....

So much room they have now started to investigate the floor on the aviary... Maybe cause I used the Vac this time... I have a stocking on the end When we were little mum sucked up bluey ..... Also I had a BIG problem.. Angle ( The smallest ) got stuck behind the mesh, she was upside down I am guessing all night ( they get checked on at 10.30pm when i go to bed and again at 6.30am when i wake) she found the littlest gap. so I have plugged ALL gaps up... I am loving it so much better then them in their little cages, They sing all the time and are getting used to me coming in there now Thanks all THIS SITE ROCKS
  21. Well..NOT HAPPY JAN My appointment had to be postponed... THere was an emergancy???? Which is understandable... They had a quick sticky beak and nothing looks to bad will know tomorrow at 615PM...... Chereeoke's Tail is more than likely from the perch being to close to the cage..*Thanks Nerwen you maybe be on the money ( No doubt ) They are going to tim her beak and just give them a once over for me..... $10 to trim a beak is worth it i'd hate to cut it too short and cause bleeding especially when there is no cornstarch in the house * shoppinglist... ANyways guys thanks for the wishes and here are more pics... You can see the length on it pretty good in this picture.. Need to update camera i think Chereeoke's Hacked wing you can see the flight feather starting to grow Poor baby.. Thanks for all your wishes guys I will keep you all posted.....
