  1. Most hens have an egg bum with in 24 -48 hours of laying an egg... Give a drop of calcivet on beak if egg bound should pass in the next 30 mins

Most budgie won't eat wattle ... Some do though ... Leaves a bitter taste in their mouth ... MATE GREAT JOB!!!! Look up butterfly gardens - also Hibiscus native birds like too
  5. LOL .. sorry ... It is the little tiny racist seeds ni ger , Line seed, and i forget the other seed .little flat red one .. It is like a tonic - I also added a fledgling mix to it as well Fledgling mix consists of Sunflower seed 1% rolled oats 2% Chick Starter %1 dried rosemary %1 along with the normal seeds
  6. IF you can try to get Golden Cob .. Budgie Blue .these are pre made with the a rather good ratio of seeds ..or go to a Bird supplies or a produce store ... I have now started making my own blends up varying from 60-80% canary then millets, niger and a few other extra's As far as pellets go .... Just feed your bird Dried dog food it has the same nutritional value ... Or supply a multi vit supplement or block ... Your bird looks IN TOP CONDITION .... DID the vet tell you the weight? See how the VET pushed the pellets ( most vets get goodies for selling slow moving products) As if you can't buy pellet elsewhere .. My Avian vet ( probably 3rd best in NSW if not Aust) would never tell me to feed pellets .... Enough of the jabbering ... Just wanted to know how much he weighs?

I had 1 hen that was a very messy feeder - I used a warm cloth and cleaned them up ... I'd hate it if i had food stuck on my face all day  If you do remove chicks make sure that they are warm - Ie a high side container so the wind doesn't blow on them :rip:
  14. Could be a Number of things - From a bacterial infections to something that no one wants in their aviary .. Best bet is to take any surviving birds to a Avian Vet and get a look over - If none are surviving grabs some Poo that is in the nest box or cage or flooring and get it tested! Death of a Clutch and or parents is NOT A GOOD SIGN
  15. Hi Bredz .... I am so happy to hear that this little one is doing great guns Only thing that i have a problem with is ........ NO PICTURE YET :hap: Good luck & keep up the good work

  18. LOL ...... mine either I think i have "Bad Boy" budgies and the thought of them sitting with a hen will wreck their image

Hi & Welcome to BBC Sorry to hear of your loss .. Personally as a breeder I think that you should by from a breeder not a pet shop ... They tell you that the birds have been wormed and use a multi vitamin supplement in their water But they DO NOT QUARANTINE new birds ( well the ones that I have been to) - As Health is the No1 Key in purchasing a new bird - Most breeders have that in their mind 110% of the time .... If you are going to buy from a breeder be sure to check out their set up .... Look for sick / un well birds kept with others Smell ..... Smell the place does it stink! ( no one thinks of this one) Check for mice / rats traps - Check the seed levels and water levels ( most time the water or seed will have poo in it which is totally understandable but not a day or 2 worth) That is probably the best advice I could give you ..... Good luck with looking for a new bird ....
  21. okay since you are thinking and thinking and thinking and thinking ... Do up a list Pros & Cons of a budgie ..... Pros & cons of a canary You should have your answer
  22. Neville would you say yellow face or goldenface? If that is Dad in the background photo he is a Golden face .. Well looks it from here
  23. I reckon Charcoal .... It won't clash with the Black trimming .... It will set off the Blonde brick work and well blend in with the terracotta colours ( it's a dark grey colour) So yeah I agree with Kaz
