  1. Good stuff Throwback…keep em coming…something said in jest may have more power than you think. But maybe they are Throwforward, not backward? But those extra bars like in The Netherlands Blacks really feels to me that it is a Throwback, seems like a much more camouflaged look that might have been an advantage earlier on in evolution…some of those rarer Parrots the Grass Parrots etc have stripes all over for camouflage, as they live on the ground

I use frozen corn, all I do is pour hot water over it to thaw it out, I think raw is probably the best.

On a serious note Deb, just check out your aviaries & make sure that there isn't anything that they can even imagine is a nest possibility, hollow logs, holes anywhere, as mainly Budgies wont fight unless it's over nest sites. But as others have said some are more aggressive than others & it's a matter of like with everything, select for birds that have less problems & get rid of the troublemakers. With some of my show stock I am finding that the females are without fear & really attack my hands when I try to inspect their young, some of them might be getting their marching orders if they don't look out.

Don’t worry Deb just give it a little time & you can sweet talk him I’m sure…by the way there’s no such thing as “TOO MANY BUDGIES” is there gang???

The trouble with rats is you can have them for ages just eating seed, but once they kill & eat meat that's what they want all the time & you have to get rid of them. Sorry about your problems Libby, these problems are always worse in the cold weather, as food is short. I think even though it's expensive cabinets need to be inside a room of some kind to protect them & also prevents accidental losses by escape. I should have got your exterminator in over 25 years ago for $90, as he would still be coming back…I think it's hilarious that they can give a guarantee on getting rid of rats or mice. The supply seems endless. Re the ads thing I have noticed if we are talking about cages there will be ads about cages…taking about rats, exterminators…BIG BROTHER [GOOGLE] IS WATCHING…definitely.

You breed them to make more $1,000 birds ...Sorry Kaz I'm with Ikon... A bit tongue in cheek there Kaz, as I noticed you added a smiley too…not totally convince yourself as yet???

I know what it is Neat, drowning is too passive for you, you want something with a bit of aggression in it… like turning them into pancakes with a shovel…

I use ACV a couple of times a week, as I’ve seen it recommended in lots of places, it’s hard to judge if it really is as good as they say, as Macka says I use 10mls to the Litre. I use it myself sometimes it tastes yucky as it’s extremely acid, but then not everything that tastes good is good for you. At least as far as the birds are concerned I think the fact that their water is acid would inhibit bacteria at least. The thing with Raspberry cordial is that it is supposed to be the highest content of true Raspberries that’s important, it’s very hard to find, I didn’t find anything more than 25% Raspberries, as most of it in stores is artificial flavoured which is useless, I would use the normal one myself.

Great series of pictures Dave thanks for sharing with us.

I’ve found them almost useless, I ran out of sealed rings last year & put them on two batches of chicks just leaving the nest, so I could tell them apart later. All but one or two chewed them off. I just missed ringing a chick in the last couple of days & have tried one on it in the nest, while it’s to young to chew it off, don’t know if it will work. If a birds not used to it they are not strong enough to stand being chewed which is what a bird that isn’t used to it will do.

Like you say it's probably being spoilt rotten & he can't take his eyes of it long enough to go on line & send us any pictures. Or maybe it’s one of those things where he was so excited to get a Lacewing, but now he actually has one it’s just like wanting to climb a certain mountain, once he reached the top, achieved his mission, he has totally lost interest…
  14. It’s the same with any living thing that breeds, especially sexually, when new individuals are born they mostly look like one of both parents, but each individual is unique. But each time there is a chance for the genes to alter, but it really is a very rare occasion. I don’t know the exact way it happened, there are some sites that maybe others will know on the Internet which explain in what order Mutations began occurring in Budgies. I think they even found some Blue or Yellow birds in wild populations & humans liked the differences so they kept them & bred from them & at various times other variations occurred & these were selected & bred from. Probably Mutations had always occurred in the wild, but in the wild they were selected the other way & died out, as mostly Mutations are a sort of defect on what nature has selected as the most viable arrangement to survive in nature.

Some will climb up the wire others just seem happy to stay on the ground. I don't think they will have trouble in a cabinet. I had a show type cock that I bought over a year ago, I tried him with a couple of hens he didn’t seem very interested & all the eggs were infertile, so I had just left him in the aviary. I had just about given up on him when he went crazy over this young hen, they haven’t bred yet, but I will let him breed with her & hopefully I might get fertile eggs as he is chasing her like mad & mating with her, whereas he didn’t care about any others. He can fly, but maybe yours just hasn’t met the right girl yet, some will mate with anything others seem very picky.

  20. I was going to ask a similar question Neat…is the Pied one without a head Grey…LOL…looks pretty healthy for a non headed bird…they’re looking good.

Not a problem Neat, just keep asking the questions, maybe it takes a few more times, but that’s not a problem.

I think I said that to you the other day Neat, in one of your other posts, how amazing it was that you got two split cocks. Did you buy your TCB hen & the two cocks from the same place?

Welcome Dodger, I hope you enjoy the forum, don’t let being 60 slow you down I got my computer when I was 60 it was hard going at first but now I can do lots of things, just take it slow & easy till you get the hang of it, maybe write things down at first. It gets easier I’m 68 now.

I wouldn’t give up on him too soon, if he’s a nice looking bird, sometimes they take awhile to get in the mood. I’ve had some birds that looked like they would never breed but later on they were keen. But like I said if it was me I would try pairing it with a bird that doesn’t have the same problem other wise if he does breed he may produce non-flyers like himself.

I don’t think you need to take Sky out if she is in the same cage. If she isn’t attacking him in any way.
