  1. Good topic pearce
  2. honestly, I have thought about the bigger house Well, tomorrow morning at 9am the truck is comign to bring my concrete. It will take no more than 30 minutes to unload, and then we smooth it over, get it looking pretty, then it will take 4 hours to dry, though I will give it at least 24 hours, if not more, than the new shed can go up. Now, I know that the best way to do it is to cement the shed down, but I do not want to lose any height on the shed. I will dynabolt it down later, that way I get to keep my shed at its original height, and it all should work out how I want it.
  3. there may be room as you see it Kaz, but look at this grass. how can you not love it?
  4. It will be nowhere as spectacular as yours or Kaz's. My breeding room will literally be that. it will be used for breeding purposes only. Other birds will still stay in the aviary. That is why the breeding room will be so much smaller than yours or even Kaz's breeding room.
  5. Splat is right about pairing greys to albinos rather than blues. In January Kaz and I were at Cec Gearings, a national winner and breeder of some amazing albinos. We asked about pairing blues to albinos, and Cec said no, greys only, as the blues would result in the offsrping have a visible blue sheen to them. Advice to follow if it is possible.
  6. The fences are all being replaced with Colourbond fencing, just waiting for the neighbours go ahead. The lattice will be removed and the colourbond will go up very soon hopefully. the fences have been an ongoing issue that seems to have been going for years. Hopefully it will happen sooner rather than later. The lattice will naturally come down before the fences. The lattice serves 2 purposes - it is decorative, but the main purpose is it keeps my dogs in my backyard. Brushwood is not very good in for that purpose. Well, in other breaking news, I just ordered the conrete for delivery on Friday at 9am. All systems are a go. Weather is meant to be better on Friday as well, bit wet here last couple of days.
  7. I think you did okay, although i am no expert.
  8. Some great looking birds. I am a newbie when it comes to pairing, so i will leave it to others to assist there. Good purchases though.
  9. You have a ood understanding of genetics, don't underrate your own knowledge. Remember of course that hidden genes can throw up all kind of surprises. That is one of the great things.
  10. I agree, you either want the sale or not. If not, don't advertise.
  11. Contact a place that will make up a seed and see what they recommend. I am one of those people that had no idea, so I spoke with the people from Elenbee Bird Seed. They supply a lot of seed for different people in my club. In the end, I went with a recommendation of a combination they supply to the Head of the NSW Budgie Society. I figure that if it is good enough for him, it is good enough for my birds. What is the breakdown, not sure, I will have to find out.
  12. He is very cute.
  13. I've heard really good things about those whirley ceiling vents, wouldn't it help with sucking up and expelling feather dust? That is good to know. I think they are a great idea and I am not sure why they are not used more often. They will definitely reduce heat and humidity in the room. Well, as promised. I took some photos. You can see the area where the shed will go, where the grass has been cleared, where it is in relation to the other aviary, and of course, the wonderful new top dreesing provided for my lawn by the preparation of this area.
  14. Couple of options for both lighting and ventillation. Lighting - you can add a sky light, use windows or install lighting. I am going to have windows, plus I am thinking of adding a skylight set up. Ventillation - you can add windows higher up to allow air ot flow through, you can install one of these ceiling air vents that spin and let hot air out, some people use air coolers to cool hot breeding rooms, some people have wire screen doors to allow air to flow in. I am lucky as my breeding room is an old aviary, so there are some wire sections already. This will allow some circulation of air and some light, but I will cover part of these with clear plastic to prevent rain. The other day, the wind and the rain meant that unless yoour aviary was enclosed ina box, water was getting in. No problemw ith water getting in, as long as you can make sure that no bird is effected by a wet area after this occurs.
  15. Remember, these are jsut some estimations off the top of my head. We have no considered what would happen if our greygreens are split for blue, nor if any of the males are secretly split cinnamon, nor if any of the males are secretly split opaline. The results are educated guesses but in reality, guesses are what they are. Hope this helps somewhat. You did very good with your estimations. By the way, now my head hurts too!!!!
  16. Well today, I finally finished the prep work for the slab. Tomorrow I am going to call and get the prices for the slab, and then that will probably get started on Friday. The shed then will be assembled next Sunday - hopefully. Rain is predicted all week, so we will see what will happen. I will take some pics as soon as I can.
  17. Quarantine? Any thoughts?
  18. I am not going to pair them up, just noticing the different pairs they choose for themselves. As for you being told you cannot do it, you can pair anything up you like Shannon. Judges can only commnet on your birds if you put them in a show. The rest is up to you.
  19. Well, I bit the bullet today and added the clearwings to the aviary. They are all going great and I wanted to do it on a day, or days, when I am around. All is going well. Scruffy is very curious and is interested in meeting everyone it seems. I now have 8 clearwings in the aviary, and 1 normal split clearwing. Amazing actually. One ofmy clearwings has taken a liking to a good green opaline male. Interesting. Not sure I want opaline split clearwings though. Dave
  20. Good on you for going and observing Deb. Tough to watch, i am **** with stuff life that, but good that you observed it. Sounds like a very good vet as well. Seems like a very good move to that vet.
  21. Welcome to the forum. This is a great place to learn, so if there is any question you want to know, throw it out there. No one is here to insult, but rather, we are all here to share and learn from each other.
  22. Everytime you introduce a new bird into an avairy, you take a risk. it can be heartbreaking. I recently had to put down one of my recently pruchased top hens. She never got near the aviary. She was ill, may have recovered, may not, but I could not risk it. She could infect the whole flock. tough decisions need to be made, but sometimes, we think we do everything right, and we can still be caught out.

    Hi, welcome
  24. Pleased to hear that all is going well. Is this breeding going on in the new breeding room?
  25. I know he is split, not masking. I corrected myself in my reply about 40 minutes ago. I suppose it comes down to what did Dad pass on?
