Wattle Flights
There is no way of running an electrical cable to where the aviary is, so therefore there is no night light. One problem I have is that when there is any light on them, even a torch shining in their direction, they chirp away happily. This means that in the middle of the night, if they get in a flap, and there is a light on for them to recover, they will chirp away with that light. I am conscious of neighbours and noise

Young New Pair
I think that you should answer Liv's questions, as well as think if there are any places that they might view as nesting spaces in the room in which you let them fly in.

Wattle Flights
lately i have been waking up in the middle of the night, sometimes due to my birds. Last night I woke up and they were all in a panic. I thought there might be something in the avairy - rat or mouse - so armed witht he torch, i went downstairs and outside for a look. The reason they were all panicking was simple - I had put a ladder in there to help the slightly disabled, and the hens had been chewing through the small dowel rungs on the ladder. Well, in the middle of the night, with a few probably perched on it, the remaning chewed rung gave way. The ladder fell to the ground, the birds fell, and the others were all spooked. Now, it takes them time to settle and find their way back to a perch, so they were all in a bit of a huff, well most. The only thing hurt was pride, and of course the ladder. So now it seems, they are doing things to cause them, and me, night problems -

Budgies And Fish And Tortises
Not a good idea. the amount of budgie poo in the pond would be bad for the tortoise. The water would get contanimated and need to be changed on a regular basis. Finches and budgies cannot be housed together anyway. Think of a budgies natural environment - dry, arid, harsh landscape, limited water, and try to match this. The finches might work better in the setup you are talking about.

My New Clearwings
Thanks for clearing this up. I think little Scruffy is cute, and I would not trade her anyway for a bird that was neat and tidy.

Wattle Flights
Thanks Krosp. I have gone from the pet type to the show type. I like so many different birds. If I was to want to go and be a spectacularly successful show breeder, I would specialise more, and I may not have an aviary of colourful birds. I might just have a few varieties. The thing is, I love them all. I came home today, and in shirt and tie still, with good dress pants, i went in the aviary, and they all just flew around me. It is so cool. I love their different looks, i love their different personalities. I find them so relaxing, they are good for my health.

My New Clearwings
She may be in the middle of a moult, but I doubt it. I spoke with Nubbly5 and she told me the reasoning for the feathering difference. I do not really name birds these days, but i am going to name this girl Scruffy. Yes, eventually I will breed clearwings

Wattle Flights
Not really sure. No mega, no other illnesses. he wa not throwing up. Thinking maybe was that it was a common cold, budgie variety. He is fine now, in the aviary I really cringed when I cam home from WA and my lawn was pretty much dead. It had taken a lot of work to get it back to what it now looks like. She has developed very well, and unfortunately for you, she will not be going anywhere.

Wattle Flights
I cleaned the aviary and the backyard this weekend, to give the birds a better home and a better view. You wil notice in the aviary shot there are some natural branches under the dowel perches. These are to help the birds that do not fly well, to climb up the branches to get to the perches. Aviary Internal Aviary External Birds view I also took some small vids of the birds - unfortunately there is no sound - but I will upload these later.

My New Clearwings
I took some new photos of my clearwings, as promised. You can clearly see that my violet hen is not as good in regard to feather quality as the others, as in she looks scruffy. Whether this is her nature, or whether it is due to feather plucking by her father, well, that is neither here not there. She is not sick, all the birds are doing well, they are all happy, chirpy, and quite flighty. I checked on ages, as Pearce asked earlier, and they are all 08 rung, except one who is 07, but the excellent info given to me by Nubbly5 shows me her birthdate is in November 07. Here are the promised pics.

Can I Get Blue's?
If his mother was blue, then Geroge is split for blue, so that is needed. It sounds like he is also swpli for cinnamon and pied. Lumina also has to be split for blue to get young. If she is split for blue, then 25% of the young should be blue. If they produced a recessive pied before, you know she is split pied.

My New Clearwings
Oh okay. I would say thanks, bu the real credit goes to Nubbly5 who bred them. Me, all I have done so far is pick them up from the airport and put them in a cage

My New Clearwings
off the top of my head, i think he was born in 08, pretty sure he has a black ring. i will dig out the paperwork later. Why?

Correct Breeding Age Of Budgies
All too true. A fancier will want what is best for his/her birds. Breeding too young will hurt the bird.

My New Clearwings
