  1. It has been a while since I updated. I will take some new tomorrow but at the moment I will just give you an update. The young ones were put into a kindy cage and they are all doing well, except the youngest little grey opaline hen who is still young. She is small and is yet to build her wing muscles enough to fly. She is eating on her own, chirping away, but is yet to fly. Parents have all had some time on their own and this morning they were all checked over and then returned to the aviary. The breeding aviary is being cleaned up and the young will go in there tomorrow hopefully. My next big thing is to look at which birds I am going to cull. A have a few thoughts.
  2. I used to "rescue" birds, and some people who had them as tame indoor pets gave me their birds. These birds ended up in the aviary with my normal aviary birds and they were very happy. I would say you are going to have your hands full with the baby, so let this one return to the aviary, and see where you are in a year's time.
  3. RIP, I know exactly what you are saying. As an IT teacher in high school, I teach about copyright, and I am well aware of the educational use of copyrighted items. Unfortuantely the way it was done before was not correct thus the removal. There was no malice in the actions, just it was incorrect. I think contacting whoever controls the standards may well result in our being allowed to post them on here, as they are meant to be.
  4. seems a little violent for even my tastes -
  5. The standards were removed as it seems that the images and information in them were illegally taken off another website, breaking copyright law. Like we do for all posts that contain information and images that belong to others, we removed the standards to ensure that we ourselves were not breaching any national and/or international laws. We do need standards on this site, so we need to either look at creating some posts ourselves, or look to legally source some from others.
  6. How are your little b#$%&es reacting to Harley? (It is rare we ever get to use that term right so I am trying to here) Birds are great as always.
  7. Sometimes I think that some people are so hopeful of discovering somethign new, that they try to see things that are not there. The blackface, yes, i agree with, but this coalface - to me, it is just a heavily flecked opaline. The spots are so big, that they look like just one big messy spot. I might be in the minority, and I am often there for some views of mine, but there is no way that I would call the "coalface" a new variety.
  8. She needs a vet to help her. Nothing we can do, there might be nothing a vet can do, but the vet is the one that deals with these serious medical issues.
  9. forget the tweezers, just ensure your hands are washed and dirt free. Pick up the unhatched egg and take the shell off. Repleace the unhatched egg simple as that.
  10. hey to be the pessimist, but I will lay $20 that the tail will fall out it's first moult and it will grow a normal tail feather, ending all the speculation -
  11. As requested..........
  12. Well done Joel, you have come a long way. Just one tip from me - take the perches out and measure them up, and cut them so they run the shorter length across the cage. Part of a budgie's mating behaviour involves flying back and forth. Yours cannot do that, they can only run side to side. Here is an example of some of my breeding and holding cages where i did what I am talking about.
  13. so that explains the ino to clearbody pairing. okay, got it. Thanks everyone.
  14. good thread GB. Well done. Keep it up.
  15. I would have thought she was a greywing, not a cinnamon.
  16. I would feel bad showing him, since I did not breed him. Might take him to my club, but probably not.
  17. white bird is no DF dommie, but recessive pied.
  18. Fabulous I can see why you would want to keep him Kaz.
  19. Frannie is still my favourite
  20. Welcome by the way. I cannot tell if your yellow bird has red eyes or not. red eyes = lutino,if not, there are a number of possibilities. Your YF blue opaline cock looks to have grey wings. Kaz is better at identifying grey wings than me, but those wings and the tail are not the norm on a normal winged bird, opaline or not. Your recessive pied is very poorly marked, as in he is almost clear. Is it possible he is a DF dominant pied, not a recessive pied? Light green hen, no doubts there.
  21. Clear something up for me here people? TCB - is it recessive? I have seen people breeding TCB's with albinos. Which shows?
  22. okay, first bbit of advice is calm down. Question 1 - is Thimble one of the young birds? If so, do not freak out as it has dropped its tail. You can never declare a bird as having french moult because of one dropped feather. Question 2 - are any of the flight/wing feathers affected or showing signs of unusual wear and tear, or even missing? Take a photo and upload it. That will give people a much better idea. At the moment though, I think you are jumping the gun a bit here in worrying whether it is feather moult.
  23. No no, Eggnog does not have my ring on it. Quiche does. I was not suggesting a swap
  24. ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They all will be mine!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (insert evil laugh here)
  25. Frannie should come to Sydney with Quiche!!!!!!!!!!!
