  1. where does quaranine fit into all of this?
  2. You are right, he did a great job
  3. okay, i will look later when i go shopping
  4. Thank kaz and birdluv. Big thanks for editing those posts birdluv. Last night my little yellow faced blue in nibblers nestbox decided to come out. I had turned off the light and was about to head inside when i noticed him on the cage floor. I put him back int he nestbox. The eldest cobalt blue spangle looks to be a male, and he is going to come out of the box anyday now. He is creeping hsi way out. The eldest chick in Hugo's clutch keeps coming up for little spells, before heading back in the box. I think I might end up with 3 hens from this clutch.
  5. not sure what you are talking about here? Dried doup mix? What type? Any more info?
  6. Thanks Norm. A love the myriad of colours. Gabrielle (Pale Ale) is definitely the darkest
  7. removed Angel from the cage with hugo as she had layed an egg and was lookng for round 2. Angel and Tralia have both layed eggs from the perch in their seperate cages. As muh as I would love more youngsters, no more breeding for at least 6 months for anyone
  8. congrats. Do you crop feed? How did you give it its first feed? ~Edit, changed u to you ~
  9. Thanks Elly. They are all coming along well. Raining here so they are wondering why the birds in the aviary are so noisy - (Laughing out loud)!!!! request for the first moderator who reads this: I forgot to put each of my pics on a new line, so it is spreding the page out across my screen. Is it possible for you to edit my posts so this does nto happen? I will make sure I am more thoughtful in the future. Thank you in advance!!
  10. I plan on keeping all the young from Tralia and Nibbler, and Hugo and Angel
  11. I do not eat it myself, well, i do, however nto normally, and not unless it is included in something like a cheesey backe My birds love it once or twice a week, so will yours. Gabrielle is amazing. It will nto be long before there is more fledgining. Little heads are starting to look out both the remaining nestboxes this very afternoon.
  12. I have taken some more shots, and I am blown away by the beautiful youngsters that have been produced here. Here is Nibbler, getting more greens as he is now a single parent. Tralia as you can see has been removed to her own cage to build up some strength. Here are their young. The eldest is a cinnamon winged cobalt spangle The 2nd is a yellow faced type 1 cobalt blue normal. The 3rd is a yellow faced type 2 cobalt blue spangle. The 4th could be a cinnamon winged (may not be) cobalt blue spangle. They are all coming along well. Angel and Hugo reared Geo, who we see a few posts above. They have 3 little ones of their own. They are here. The first is a double factor violet dominant pied (hopefully a boy), the 2nd is another violet Double factor dominant pied and the 3rd is Gabrielle. It was thought that she would die as she was so Pale, called Pale Ale at the beginning. Look at her now. I would say the is an Opaline, mauve, Double Factor Dominant pied (maybe single factor actually, not sure). She looks amazing, and she is now almost the same size as her brother and sister. They all look amazing. It also clears up a few things. Angel is an Albino, however her parents must have been an Albino and a mauve dominant pied. Hugo is a double factor dominant pied who carries the opaline gene. Tralia is a cinnamon winged yellow faced type 2 cobalt blue and nibbler is carrying the cinnamon gene (nibbler's mother is a cinnamon wing). Sebby is a Fallow that is split to recessive pied. All these things make sense now i have seen their offspring.
  13. Never looked at it like Jimmy. Everything inthe matrix was a bright green and black - Geo is a bit like that. Neo was special, overcoming great odds - Geo has done that all her life, layed here, born there, raised elsewhere. I like that
  14. multiple reasons then not to be name that. Personally I like the name Geo. It is short, rolls off the tongue, and in its long version, there is a meaning behind it, so there we go. GEO IT IS!!!!!!!!!! (Laughing out loud)
  15. Did you put them back into the cage that had the nest box? Mother might feel territorial. hate to say it, but if you did this, the fault is not the birds.
  16. Thats a worry...My great grandfather is a Gypsy Obviously you have abandoned the traditional way of gypsy life Kaz - (Laughing out loud) ~ edit u to you~
  17. You make it all sound so simple Dave. Trust me, it is not. There are plenty of places on this forum that you should go to and read the info before you even consider starting. I would encourage you to do this before you do anything else. As for your questions, I am no expert and I do encourage any more experienced breeders to correct my mistakes, but... 1. there is no set mating season. it is best to ensure that the birds are in top condition when mating, so ensure they are not moulting and that they are healthy. The strain of laying eggs and raising young is enough to kill a bird, so keep that in mind. 2. budgies will mate and then lay an egg, something like 14 days (i think) after mating. The hen may not sit on the egg straight away, she may wait for other eggs to be layed before she sits. Incubation can then take anything from about 18-26 days, depends again on when the hen begins to incubate. 3. the hen is pivotal in feeding the young initially, but the father takes over when they get older. Most youngsters are learning to feed themselves after 6 or so weeks. Some earlier, some later. Like I said, read and be prepared. Losing young ones is tough, and that experience is enough to turn you off breeding altogether, trust me, I know.
  18. okay, here some pics of Sebby and Cheese's other youngsters, enjoying spinach. Note the difference in the colours here. Cheese and 2 of the pieds have sky blue patches, however the little one, who I am keeping, has a darker blue, possibly cobalt?
  19. Glad to hear you and Piper have adjusted to a different way of doing things. the people on here are wonderful and give great advie.

She would be fine. It is not like you are going overseas. I would simply make sure she has adequate food and water. In her cage I would make sure she has a couple of seed dishes, you could hand a seed treat as well if you are worried, a couple of water dispensers, you know the ones that hang on the oustide of the cage, and in the morning when you leave, give her a whole heap of spinach. I would only do spinach as when it goes off, it shrivels up and is no good to insects. Not all veges are like that. You might also sit a dish of seed in the bottom of the cage. Use something like a bird bath. I would not worry at all. relax, go and enjoy yourself. It will be fine.
  21. I do not really like the name Gypsy Kaz, maybe because the whole trustworthy, thievery type rep that is associated. I am not saying it is true, just the stereotype. I really like Geo, and it works with the seafoam green colour she is. Anyway, here are some pics of her. She now spends a lot more time out with Adopted Dad Hugo. I have to take my parents dog to the vet now, but I will post more pics when I get back. lots of pics of your little ones Deb, plus the difference in colour of the youngest one to grow up in Sebby and cheese's box, thus why he remains with me. More pics to come this afternoon, maybe even this morning. We will see!!
  22. It sure is Norm. And you are right, if you got some, you would breed them seperately so nto to introduce the gene into the flock. If I had one, i would so my best to breed them, then sell them to the highest bidder, retiring to my islanf getaway with my millions, enjoying the tropical sun..... sorry, drifted off there for a minute
  23. I know people like the novelty value of this bird, but to me, it is not attractive at all. i actually dislike its look. I might be the only one, and that is okay, been there before, but if i had one, it would be pure novelty value.
  24. okay, so i came home and the traveller is fluttering around the cage like she owns the world. if she was a boy, I might call her Atlas, as she is connected, or has a bit of everywhere connected to her. Since she is a girl, I can't call her traveller, journeyman or atlas, so I am thinking I might call her Geo, short for Geography. I looked at the floor of Tralia and nibblers nest box, and saw that the nest box had been cleaned out a little bit. Seems that Tralia had done some spring cleaning. I chased her out of the nestbox to catch her and remove her to a seperate cage. Seems I was too late and she had laid an egg. This was not going to happen, so the egg was disposed of and Tralia was moved to a seperate cage. Angel is the next one I need to check on, and i will in the morning. New pics to come tomorrow. Deb, birds to be delivered sometime this coming week, once i work out my schedule.
